No this is not another thread on Super Bowl plans, but a request for some help on a little decision I need to make.
I have a non-transferrable travel voucher from Spirit Airlines which expires on December 9th. Of the places I can go, Detroit is the one that is most affordable.
Now, I'm all for a weekend getaway with my wife, but it begs the question:
WHAT THE HECK IS IN DETROIT???
If any of you know anything about the city and the pros and/or cons about going there please let me know. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Pro: Windsor Ontario is just across the river... Windsor Casino, low crime, cheaper hotels, less traffic, nice people; plus a wonderful view of the Detroit skyline.
Con: It's Detroit. (which is a step up from Philadelphia. )
Bonus: Kwame Kilpatrick might still be mayor... makes for great news, especially when there's a raunchy party at the Mayor's mansion where his wife gets into a full-on fist fight with a hired stripper who incidentally ends up dead a week or so later!

How close a drive from Detroit are we talking here? It's been a while since I've been to Canadá.
This is definitely sounding like a plan. One more question: do taxi cabs run from Detroit airport to Windsor??? I know I'll need my passport, but I wanted to know if I should catch a cab or rent a car. Thanks for the feedback, tazlah. Windsor looks beautiful. Oh yeah, how cold is it up there around that time?

I'd probably check with the hotel you're staying at... see if they have shuttle service. I got this with a quick google; no idea on prices. Here's what I'd expect to pay in $CAD. To compare, this one appears expensive (one way, 60$USD, same trip).
Depends how long you plan to stay if you get a car or not. If its a weekend thing, stay downtown, enjoy the nightlife, take cabs or walk.

I've taken your advice, and I will be traveling to Windsor, by way of Detroit for a weekend in December. Thanks for the input. I look forward to visiting Canadá once again. I hope the weather holds up.

BTW - In Fios' third "New Here" thread, I asked if there were many "Tim Hortons" in Canadá. I wondered why nobody answered my question, but, upon driving onto Canadian soil, my question was answered....about a million times over. Not to mention over and over and over and over again during the televised curling championships we watched.
