The Curse of Wellington Mara
there is no possible rational explanation for what happened today. i'm 27 and i have never seen the redskins play so horribly in my entire life. i don't want to hear any crap about how the giants dominated. garbage. the giants did nothing. eli did nothing. we simply rolled over and went to sleep.
how can you explain how moss, who has maybe dropped 1 or 2 passes all year, suddenly dropped every ball that came his way. how do you explain 10 million ridiculous turnovers in a row? how do you explain any of the completely impossible things that all impossibly lined up and happened all at the same time? you can't. this game means absolutely nothing. there is no chance the redskins will ever look like this again this year-- all the players would suddenly have to lose all their skill for good.
so throw it in the trash. it's a horrible, embarassing, ridiculous defeat that will probably bite us in the butt come the end of the season, vying for the playoffs. but it doesn't say anything about either team.
me, i'm writing it off to The Curse of Wellington Mara. the guy was obviously some kind of evil satanist or something, and he and hitler gathered together down in hell for one last hurrah, cursing the redskins today. or if he's really the saint the NFL is portraying him to be (how sick are you all of that crap? so annoying), then maybe the Football Gods simply rewarded him today with this totally bogus game.
pretty frightening when the only reasonable explanation to an event is something as supernatural as a curse, huh? and next week against philly, we'll prove that that's all it was.

I am 22 years old and therefore have obviously missed a lot of Redskins seasons and games. However, I can say without reservation that this was the worst game I have EVER seen the Redskins play in my entire life. That was an absolutely terrible effort by the entire team. We were dominated on both sides of the ball by a team that didnt even play that well. Barber was the only offensive player who played a great game (manning was 12-31!!) and Umenyora was the only defensive standout (and that was mainly bc he is a pure pass rusher and the Giants knew the Skins were gonna pass on every play so he could tee off)
I dont know what the hell happened to this team today. I was shocked, I still am. We had played good football in all 6 games going into today and we just embarassed ourselves in front of most of the nation. Maybe it was a curse?? There is just no rational explanation for this one.
New York is now 5-2 with a trip to San Fran and a home game with Minny on the horizon meaning they are on the verge to being 7-2. The Giants are playing an absolutely ridiculous 7 of their first 10 games at home. They will have played 7 home games before Thanksgiving!!!! Meanwhile the Redskins have played 6 winning teams in their first 7 games and will be facing teams with winning records in each of their next 2 games. That's 8 winning teams in the first 9 games! Unbelievable considering this is supposed to be a last place schedule.
It's never easy for the Redskins or their fans.

seems like something always happens to motivate the team we are playing, I hate to say this but, Philly lost yesterday to Denver, I cant see them coming out and losing 2 straight games, So they will be very tuff to beat.
Hail To The Redskins!

well yeah that is true but, at least we have the same motivation since we got our butts kicked too. whereas, against NY, it's not like we also had some ancient, legendary owner die, with his 40 grandkids showing up for some stupid ceremony. that should have been left a private matter, it is shameful that the NFL and the giants used it as a promotional tool.

When I saw clips of Mara's funeral Friday and seeing most of the league there, I knew we were in trouble. The league became one with the Giants and the Redskins were the outsiders. Then watching Mara's granddaughter sing the anthem, I knew our fate was sealed. There was NO WAY the Skins were going to win this game. They didn't show up at all. They knew before hand that they were going to lose. They had the attitude of "let's just get this three hours over with and go back to Washington".
Let us all gather around and drink the
ey-Aid of the Redskins.

Oh, please. Wellington Mara was a major influence in the NFL for multiple decades, and was legitimately loved by many of his players and by the fans in g-boy land. They had every right to celebrate his life and mourn their loss, JUST AS WE WOULD HAVE DONE WERE HE OUR OWNER. They were lucky to have him, as we were lucky to have JKC.
We got our azzes handed to us. It happens... it sucks... Get over it.
Now we find out if this team is really as good as we thought it was. Do they fight back, and (win or loose) give the Beagles fits? Or do they roll over and die?

I don't know about a curse, but I'm still trying to work out how there can be FIVE fumbles in a game, and we don't recover one.
Somebody help me out here - do we never have any players around the ball when it goes to the turf?

I'm right there with ya
go ahead and offer up some rational explanation as to what happened in that game then. there is none. every single player on our team played the worst game of their career on the exact same day. that is simply statistically impossible.

apathy and pessimism are contagious. escpecially with somewhat superstitious ballplayers. once a few things start going the wrong way, it's difficult to stop it from snowballing. add to that a motivated giants team, and you have a blowout.

I think it's interesting how all of a sudden Giants fans have this love fest for Wellington Mara. How quickly everyone forgets the 90's and how the entire city of NY wanted him to sell the team because of how cheep he was with free agent signings and the Ray Handley and Dan Revees debacles.
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

This seems a little harsh to me. To be fair though, I didn't know the man as well as you obviously did.

to be honest, i couldn't care less if he spent his entire life rescuing babies from fires and curing AIDS and feeding starving people. all i know is, he picked a really butt-hole-ish time to die. and whether it was some crazy supernatural hoosafudge, or simply the emotion he inspired into his team (and out of ours [how can you get excited to go kick the butts of a team who just had someone die?]), by dying then he without question caused that game to go way down the toilet for the redskins.
there are only a few things in the world you can do that are worse than that, as far as i'm concerned! you screw with the redskins, you rot in hell.
