Play Calling
If the Redskins plan on staying this conservative from here on out, they've got something coming to them. Something needs to be done, even if it means handing the play calling duties to someone else.
You can't win a game giving your 50-millino dollar back 4 carries. End of story. I don't want to hear the garbage about the Skins falling behind and needing to pass. They were only down 13 and 16 points in the 2nd quarter, two scoring drives away from being tied. You can't abbandon the run like Gibbs and his staff did, especially in windy conditions on the road.
How do you go from running for 204 yards last week, to having your 3rd-string back leading your team with 21 yards today? It's more than just that they were playing the NFL's JV team. Portis got 4 yards on his first run, and only saw the ball three more times on the next four possessions. He didn't even get the ball once after the first four drives.
On top of their lack of commitment to the run, they didn't go up top once. The two longest balls of the game, and best thrown for that matter, both came from Ramsey in garbage time. Moss was a non-factor, and Brunell, like he last year, didn't throw a ball further than 15 yards from the line of scrimmage.
The offense was horrible, and looked like it did last season, and the defense if far more porous than it was a year ago. I never thought I'd see a Gregg Williams unit give up 200 yards to one rusher.
With all of this said, Philly at home next weekend is a winnbale Sunday night festivity. They'd better re-adjust the way they plan on going about scoring though, or else it could prove to be another long day.

Re: Play Calling
The first thing about the 204 yards running last week is the niners are that bad!!!The reason we couldn't run the ball is because we were not on the field today that much the first half and our offensive line got pushed and beat badly.I'm still wondering if clinton portis is really a good fit for this offense? The runs the defense is giving up on the perimeter is got to be a big concern and if willams doesn't try to fix this we are in trouble.Another problem is injuries are starting to pile up on the team and thats not good!!I"m hoping that we bounce back big against the Eagles!!redskins56 wrote:If the Redskins plan on staying this conservative from here on out, they've got something coming to them. We may have been dominated as far as time of possesion goes, but to say we didn't have the ball is asanine. We got 14 possessions with the football, and only gave the rock to Portis on two of them. The Skins have nobody to blame but themselves when they do that garbage.
Your right, Washington barely ever had the ball. That's because our offense ran onto the field, Brunell threw three incompletions (two of which were probably out of bounds), and back to the sidelines they went. There's no reason we didn't stick to the run, none whatsoever.
If we wanted to throw it all day long like we have throughout much of the last month, we should have gone up top a few times.

No sense whining over this game! The Giants were very charged up for this game for obvious reasons. They flat out DOMINATED the Skins. I am still more upset over losing to the Broncos and Chiefs, both games we should have won.
That being said, there are several things that concern me a lot.
- The D is giving up a plus 50 yard play or two every game now, and I don't see that changing.
- The D is over pursuing and causing the first problem!
- The D is nicked at almost every spot.
- The O is nicked at LT, RB, and HB (some of the better players.)
- Robert Royal has surpassed Rod Gardner and should now hold the lable of 10/90. When was the last time he caught a ball?
- Every receiver dropped at least one pass (some... with the intials R.R. dropped all four of the balls thrown his way. One would have prevented a shut-out!)
- The O line has been practicing the oley style of pass protection and might be better suited as matadors!
- Gibbs calls a game plan that is ultra conservative when things aren't going right.
But this team is way better than what they showed today and the next meeting won't resemble this one at all.
Did you see the butt squeezing the Broncos put on the Beagles, boy are they going to be fired up next week!

This game hurt, mainley because this team was making strides. Good things were happening that as Redskin fans we haven't seen for quite some time. Denver and KC hurt as well but at least the team tried to win both, today however, I think we were defeated before it started. I hope the guys think about this loss for the rest of the season and hopefully feed off the fact they were embarrassed to the likes I havent seen a redskins tean embarrassed like this in many years.

I agree with all of this except for the pass protection. Brunell had plenty of time at the beginning of the game, and I couldn't really tell because on TV you can't see everything, but it seemed as though Brunell had happy feet, the receivers were either covered perfectly or dropped the balls whenever it was thrown their way.
A QB can expect 3-4 seconds from snap to pass, and Brunell for whatever reason, needed more time this week. I don't recall any ole sacks until Samuels went out.

The Skins are not as good as we thought they were after putting up 52 on the Niners and not as bad we think after yesterday.
I really hope they rebound with a solid showing next week. I was almost hoping the Eagles would win yesterday so they wouldn't be desperate on Sunday night.
The NFL is just impossible to figure this year. How do the Niners smack the 5-1 Bucs after a TB bye week? How does the 31st ranked D smack us around yesterday? Go figure...

It's hard to run the ball when you're not getting any first downs or keeping the ball. I blame this more on the offense who completely abandoned their defense. The Giants should have scored 35 points in the 1st half with the time of possesion they were getting. The Redskins need to get first downs in order to keep running the ball.
