Vote on the deadline for the submission of Hognostications

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Vote on the deadline for the submission of Hognostications

Post by Redskin in Canada »

Texas Hog makes a fair comment in the Hognostications thread for NFL Week 7:

Texas Hog wrote:We could set a 6:00 CST deadline on Tuesday, like I have to meet for the Hognosticator column to make things fair

You are right about the disadvantage that some posters, you in particular, face depending on the amount of time available to prepare Hognostications. Obviously, more information, including who plays or who is injured, is available late in the week.

But at the same time, the official Hognostications only appear on Wednesday or Thursday depending on the workload of the admin/mods. In my view, your Hognostications are the GUIDE. But of course if somebody wishes to venture beyond them, they do so at their own peril, which is what makes it fun of course!

It is always good for everybody to see your own analysis of the games. It also may help bring people to the main page of the site, which is one of my original motivations to promote clicking on all the adds and sponsor's links.

My proposal is that the deadline of the Hognostications be the day PRIOR to the first game day of the week. Realistically, some posters need a little time due to work or other peronal reasons. Others, like you know whom, needs a little extra time considering his personal limitations.

Well, here it is Hognosticators: please vote and give me your views with an intention to be both fair and practical.

Don't make it any more complex than it has to be. Let people make their picks / make changes as long as no NFL game has been played on Sunday.

I'd have to agree with this. Its not cheating unless you alter your pick midway through the game. I like to have a decent idea of who is playing due to injury.

I voted anytime prior to the game being played. One hour prior to kickoff would be fair to all.

Texas Hog can allways go back and change a pick like the rest of the Hognosticators, finding time to change them is another thing all together.

Once I post my picks I normally let it ride so it really doesn't matter.

:?: Is there a rule that says TH's picks in the official Hognostication articles have to macth his picks in the thread? If so then our deadline sould be the same as Texas Hog's. We all know who's playing who before the article comes out right?

 If it ain't broke don't fix it
My 2 cents

I wasn't whining Brothers. Just have fun with it. I agree and don't think a deadline is necessary. The results of the Hognostications are not reviewed by a 3rd party accounting firm, nor are they meant to serve as expert advice. So please, no wagering. ;)

FYI - I won't be altering my picks after my article submission.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

I voted for the day prior - I may be asking a silly question and I do appreciate the input given by Texas Hog but could Texas Hog not also be allowed to make a change if he felt there was something that happened later in the week that would affect the potential outcome (in his judgement)?

anyway, thanx for all the effort - good fun for all involved.

cheers, Jock
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm all for submitting the picks the same day the Hognostications are published, and then not altering your picks. Stand by your original picks, and be men (or women) about it. That's half the fun. It's good to be able to look back and laugh at where we went wrong. Unless, of course, you've misplaced your marbles, in an undisclosed location in Canada? :-"

I am still waiting to hear other views if there are any.

Any time before the first kickoff of the week. After the first kickoff, all selections are locked (would have been Friday this week). So a little of both worlds. You can change up to the first kickoff, but after that, picks are locked, even for the Monday night game.
