Injuries to our DBs is why we are giving up big runs, and the fact that we just played 3 of the best running teams in football. Tatum never hits either of those runs if the ground is dry OR our DBs are healthy. Alexander was held in check for most of the Seattle game, that's all that can be asked of a pretty good defense, which is what we are. Priest holmes made big runs on us, because he is a great RB, redskin injuries, and his teammates committed crucial holds on both of his big runs that didn't get flagged.
Our defense will be fine. We really need Springs back. Our offense is on fire(small problem with turnovers the last two weeks, but that'll fix itself).
We don't have a great front four. That was obvious last year and with the injuries we have now, it's PAINFULLY obvious. We still have a pretty good defense. Once we get a couple more guys on the defensive line, this defense will be scary. For now, it's good enough to get the job done for our new and improved offense. We just need to start putting points on the board, which I have no doubt, we will start doing a lot of very soon.

Here's the deal: 4 problems-
1) Too many turnovers on offense
2) Not enough points for those impressive offensive stats. Turnovers and penalties are major factors in this.
3) Giving up too many big plays on the ground, and I agree that LA would make a difference, and I'm questioning the judgment that's keeping him sidelined. Perhaps GW and JG should drop the bullheaded routine and let the man play.
4) Terrible take away numbers on defense.
Bottom line is we're finding ways to kill ourselves on both offense and defense. When the offense is scoring, we turn right around and give it back on big plays.

C. Griffin is GREAT. The rest are solid but we definitely have been arguing for a LONG time that our DE's pass rush is lacking when compared to other Gibb's teams in the past.Scottskins wrote:We don't have a great front four.
Injuries have played an important role. If you factor injuries in our games, this defense is GREAT overall. I will go to a game with my team against anybody on any given Sunday.
We lost two games in the LAST play of each game. Remember that quite a few points have been scored on us when the defense is not on the field. The sky is NOT falling. Judge them according to the BIG picture.
I am not in a hurry to see Lavar in UNTIL JG and GW say he is ready mentally and physically. I have learned to know that they know better than I do. It is not only trust, it is based on history.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
Our D-Line is weak.I have not seen consistent pressure coming soley from our D line Griffin is the only good one.Holdman is an obvious back up at best. How in the world Lavar is not playing baffles even the brightest minds.

Our defensive scheme is designed to stop the run inside by the front four. Sacks are designed from outside. As long as the front four stop the inside runs, all the options to run against us come from the outside. Injuries have prevented our DBs from getting there.HEROHAMO wrote:Our D-Line is weak.I have not seen consistent pressure coming soley from our D line Griffin is the only good one.Holdman is an obvious back up at best. How in the world Lavar is not playing baffles even the brightest minds.

Losing close games is not a sign of a GREAT defense, allowing big rushing plays like we have is not a sign of a GREAT defense, having 2 turnovers in 5 games is not the sign of a GREAT defense, having NO pass rush is not a sign of a GREAT defense.
GET REAL! I am a fan but not a blind one....this defense is slipping fast and needs to be shored up quick if we want a winning season. Have you looked at our schedule? Have you noticed the division we play in? This could turn ugly real quick if we don't address some of the above issues NOW!
I feel this thread is pertinent again after the drubbing we just took this past Sunday.
This defense is showing it's weakness and the "schemes" excuse can only last so long.
I think we all saw with our own eyes the problems we face. Personally I do not think we have the depth on D-Line to make a push for the playoffs, hopefully I'll eat those words just as many in this thread should regarding this as being a GREAT defense.
The defense was totally flat footed Sunday, they didn't play with much emotion and I am wondering if the "scheme defense" is taking away the aggressive personality of the group.
I certainly wouldn't want to question the coaches here as that is "blasphemy" on these forums but I have to wonder if G Williams can adjust those schemes mid game to stop the blood letting we saw last week.

That is it. They are running such a tight ship on defense with staying in the "scheme" that guys are not playing with high energy. It looks like they are playing as though to stay in the "scheme" to keep their job. Just like GW and his crew scout and game plan opponents offenses, they are doing the same when it comes to our defense. It is ironic how for the past 3-4 weeks, teams have hit us for big runs on the same side of the field. And guess what? Philly will probably try to do the same with Westbrook.
"Gap control" is not allowing these guys to take full advantage of the their talents.
Also, here's a couple of nuggets: Are these guys happy playing in this "scheme"? Who is the true "leader" on that defense that pumps them up and get's in their faces when the make a mistake like Ray Lewis does up I-95?
It's like those guys up north take pride in playing defense and are very energetic about it. Don't get me wrong, our defense is good but it's that energy, enthusiasm, and on-field leadership that is lacking....

fact our d-line is not producing ..... which in turn does lead to turnovers.also lavar should be playing ...heck the hole team was out of position last week so bench everyone.
we need a couple of BIG NAME players on our D-LINE we can not keep using below average players to start, its ok for a few games but not all year long ....we had a chance to sign corey simon from the eagles ....note how that D-LINE is playing
