My point today is that we live in a world where we all want instant gratification. We want to jump on the Internet. We're on the cell phone going to work. Everything is now. We want everything now. Fast. Speed. Give me answers today. Right now. We have no patience.
Now, everybody knows I'm a traditionalist. I hate the Internet. I hate cell phones. But because of the world we live in, pro football has transcended into a sport that cries out, "Fix-me-now, give-me-results today." Our world, the one in Washington, D.C., has put so much pressure on such a great coach like Joe Gibbs.

After the first week of the season, I told Gibbs to fix his quarterback situation. I was as guilty as the next guy. Sure, they won in Week 1, but I didn't like the offense I was seeing. All I saw was this old offense with all his old offensive coaching staff, one that was protected by a sensational Gregg Williams' defense.

But you know what Gibbs did? He still has himself a running back in Clinton Portis. Yep, Portis is a little different than what Gibbs is used to, but Portis is doing his job. He found himself a solid H-back in Chris ey and he brought in that old quarterback, Mark Brunell. I'm still not sure that Brunell is the guy simply because everyone is asking back there, "Can he last? Can he last?"

But I really liked what I saw Sunday against the Seahawks. The Redskins are picking up their blocking schemes. The offensive linemen are picking up the blitzes and that delay blitz I talked about on our postgame show that ended up in the game-deciding 30-yard pass to Santana Moss. That proved the linemen and Brunell are seeing things. Brunell is like these other guys. Give him time, he's a veteran. He's polished. He throws a great deep ball. He really throws a pretty pass and he makes good decisions when he has time.

It's damn impressive what the Redskins have accomplished thus far.

Let's go back to last year. Remember, at the end of last season, Gibbs came out and said, "Let's not be so quick in writing off Brunell." Patrick Ramsey, yes, he's pretty good, but Brunell can still play.

Now, I was one of those guys who openly questioned Gibbs when he said that. Did he really believe that? I was saying, "Hey, get the young kid in there. You can't win with Brunell."

Why did I do that? Because I'm following into a trap like everyone else. Pick up the papers back in Washington. The writers thought Gibbs was dead wrong about Brunell. I've learned my lesson. There is no way I know more about what's going on in Washington than Gibbs. I just see it from a studio and I'm impressed that the Redskins are 3-0 and in first place.

Nice article. I think a lot of us feel the same way as Bradshaw did. We wanted the now instead of the wait and see.

Wow, excelent article. I admire Bradshaw for coming out and admitting his misconceptions. I think everyone fell into the same trap that he did. I must admit that I was on the verge of doing that too but I have always and will always support Gibbs' ideas, he is a very smart guy.

Others accuse 'Skins fans of naively following Gibbs. I almost thought he had gotten it wrong but he is showing why we are justified to put our faith in him. He does things differently than others but that's because he's an innovator, not a follower and more importantly, as Bradshaw says, "There is no way I know more about what's going on in Washington than Gibbs."

People have second guessed him on so much - the Brunell trade and reinserting him this year, the Moss trade, LaVar not playing, Groom and Brown getting cut... and you know what, we're 3-0. I think a lot of people have to realize that Gibbs is in control, he knows what he's doing, and he's WINNING! He knows ALOT more about football than any of us and any of the media. I think it would be wise for people to keep this in mind.

On a couple other threads just before the Cowboy game, I was tellin everyone that Gibbs was making the right move. Man, everybody was slamming Brunell, and questioning Gibbs sanity.

On the other hand though, we've won 3 games by a total of 6 points. A couple of big plays away from being 0-3, so there is still a long way to go before we should start making travel arrangments for the Super Bowl.

However, Brunell has proven he can go deep. Most of our offensive problems are inside the 20, and I think that will now be the next area Gibbs will address. Seems as though we are too conservative and too predictable in the red zone, and we need to toss in a few wrinkles.....some mis-direction stuff (S. Taylor maybe?)

The Denver game is going to be a real measure of where we are right now. If we can find a way to put 20+ points up, control the ball and win this game, that's going to be a huge statement, and a huge confidence builder.

I don't believe this stuff for one second. This is just Bradshaw trying to get the inside track on the bandwagon. Further proof that he doesn't know what he's talking about, and he'll just go with the flow. He's just trying to eat crow and save face at the same time without it being obvious. I'll give him credit for getting the jump on all the other sportswriters, but only cuz there's going to be a very slow exodus over to the Redskins. They wanna see more offense, that's all they care about.

To Bradshaw: Apology accepted. Hopefully, next time you'll think twice before putting your fiit in your mouth, no matter HOW much FOX pays you to do so.
