Lack of forced turnovers???

Post by USAFSkinFan »

It's very odd to me that Greg Williams' defences don't force more turnovers. This is the most aggressive and hardest hitting defense I can ever remember the skins having, but for some reason they don't force turnovers. Even Greg Williams' last year in Buffalo, they were the #2 deefense in the NFL, but they were near the bottom in forced turnovers. That same year the skins forced 26 turnovers, but dropped to 17 last year when Williams' came to town. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about Williams... just the opposite, I love it when the other team has the ball, but It just doesn't make sense to me... this continuing trend... any thoughts?

Perhaps it is that teams play very conservatively against this defense, sticking to runs and "safe" passes?

I think it is a combination of that and the "make them throw underneath and let them catch it, but tackle him before the marker" type defense.

Ive always believed that its due to the lack of a pass rush. We simply do not make the QB hurry in his decision making without blitzing.

Without blitzing - The QB has ALLL day to throw and can pick almost any defense apart. Our stellar CB's save our butts!

With blitzing - We're taking guys out of coverage thus having less guys to be in position to make a play on the ball. The guys in man coverage can't really do anything too flashy as to not blow their coverage and cause a huge gain.

We need a pass rush and thats the ONLY downfall of this defense. It was exploited yesterday and teams know this. Hopefully Lavar will excell in a pass rushing role.

What's really unbelievable is that we've lost the turnover battle in every game...that must be corrected to continue the winning streak.

Lavar is too good to sit

Post by Uaintready »

lavar is too good to sit, your talking about a guy who is a disruptor on the football field. And the guy replacing him has like two tackles  Lavar not only makes people change direction you have to game plan for him. People ask why how come we blitz like 5,6 people and the QB is still chillin, its cause they get picked up by a back or a TE. But with Lavar in the line up you have to put to guys on him to make sure he doesnt blow up the play. If offenses know that they going to send more than they can block, they also know that there arent that many people out in coverage.

Greg Williams and his defense were all about the big play and turnovers last year (remember Sean Taylor talking about this, especially early in the year?). I'm sure that it's on their minds. And I bet that it will give the 3-0 Skins something to really focus on, instead of getting complacent. At least, I hope!

Give the defense a little break, here. They only allowed 17 points against a top 4 offense at this point in the season.

Despite injury.

Brandon Noble. People complain of a lack of a pass rush. Think we don't miss him?
We are a little thin at CB. Walt Harris was out.
Down a saftey in Pierson Prelieu (sp?).

I wouldn't be surprised if they signed another corner to fill the void while Harris is healing.

And the defense is still executing at a high enough level to win.

I completely agree... teams that get pressure with their front four, especially speedy defensive ends who swipe at the ball, seem to create lots of turnovers... not just fumbles, but Int's by safeties who get to read the QB instead of chasing somebody... that being said, I still think this is one of the best and most fun defenses to watch...
