I think that Lavar is just not fitting in to the defensive scheme. It's got to be that. I am of the opinion that he should be used as an "L.T." type. You take advantage of his speed and big play capability. Also, your risk is minimal on the defensive line if he doesn't play within the scheme because you have linebackers to make up for his mistakes. When Marvin Lewis used him in that capacity, he had 11 or 12 sacks and made the Pro Bowl. Your CBs, LBs, and Safeties are good enough and disciplined enough to cover for Lavar's lack of size on the line against the run.

Look at what Freeney's speed on the end is doing for the Colts pass rush. I am not saying Lavar should play tackle but put him on the end and on long 2nd and 3rd downs let him roam on the line to confuse the opponents blocking assignments. Also, you have that end that run down a RB from the backside before the play finishes developing.

Roy makes an excellent point. Marvin Lewis also runs a very disciplined scheme but managed to get an awful lot of production out of Lavar. It makes me wonder why GW can't do the same.

There has to be more here than meets the eye. Lavar says he's healthy, he's the highest paid Skin, the face of the franchise, enormously talented, Danny's favorite, etc... yet the dude can't smell the field right now.

I hope we get some explanation on his show or Joe's later today.

My thoughts on the situation is Lavar is to good to be sitting there on the bench, and not even see the field. We still have 2 week to the deadline and wheather he's here or not after that my guess is that he will wind up in Cincinnati with Marvin Lewis, they do have alot of money to spend. On the downside of this if he gets granted free agency next June and if he decides to go back home to Pensilvania, there is a possibillity he winds up in Philly. Now I say use him and make him stay here, I definatly would not like to face him twice a year.

Lavar Arrinton.... Merged

Post by REDEEMEDSKIN »

He was on 980 for his weekly show, and he didn't sound too happy.

- Apparently, there's a gag order on his talking about the "specific packages" he is in on. Coaches have asked defensive players not to discuss those details.

Lavar says he's a tema player, and he will "do what he's told".

Asked about the Special Teams controversy: He hasn't denied anything; he does what he's told.

- On contract negotiations influencing his playing time: NO comment.

- No communication with Gregg Williams on where, when, why, he should play.

"No to sound arrogant"

...but:

1) He's gone to three Pro Bowls under other coaches.

2) He's made sacrifices for this organization.

Doesn't make sense to him, that HE should go to the coaches to ask for playing time.

Lavar on JT's radio show

Post by WuSkinsFan »

Listening to him now, Lavar says..
1. For Howie Long to make the comment that he told coaches he would not come to special teams meetings is ridiculous. Howie should know better than that as a former player not that far removed from the game. He would never tell coaches he wouldn't do something for the team. He doesn't understand how anybody can suggest he hasn't or won't give his all to this team.

2. He is 100% healthy.

3. It's not a matter of being worked back into the defense. He's not the starter. As a back up, he is ready to play whenever they call his #. He lost his starting job. As a man, he has to deal with that.

4. Al Koken asked point blank if Lavar has been asked to play special teams. Laver says, "I haven't turned anything down, so I guess I haven't been asked."

5. Doc Walker asked if Lavar will go to the coaches to discuss his role on the team. Lavar says the coaches are the leaders of the team and should be the ones to initiate that conversation. Lavar will do whatever he is asked to do and wants to contribute even if it is just cheering his teammates on, he is going to do that.
After every game, every play & every highlight, I'll always remember #21. RIP Sean.

The 980 guys are siding with him, but overall, this sounds bad, y'all.

Feels bad that he doesn't have the opportunity to give "his fans" what they want.

- People jump out of cars to get his autograph, a hug, etc.

- Fans make him feel good, even in bad times.

Sorry, I missed a big portion of it, but I tried to quickly point out some of the, sadly, more revealing points from the interview.

BTW Make sure to hear the Joe Gibbs show later tonight at 6:00 PM. If someona can post a recap, even better.

I can tell you why he is not playing. Warrick Holdman is a fundamentally sound, good system linebacker. Lavar Arrington is a freelancer, always has been and he always will be. He came out of college with a reputation pretty much based on one play...."The Lavar Leap". That stuff does not work in the NFL...let him go to Pittsburgh or whatever he wants to do. You remember while he was hurt he was...partying in Hawaii or a judge on that ESPN show (forgot the name of it). I think our defense is just as good without him. We proved that last year. I say trade him for a draft pick or something. We may not get much for him, he has played 6 games in the last 2 seasons. let him go and lets draft Xavier Adibi or somebody I dunno....I am just tired of all the hype and the mediocre results.

I just listened to the show as well. If everything that Lavar said is true what in the world are the coaches doing??? On defense we can't generate any sort of pass rush or turnovers. Lavar is far more talented than Holdman, who is at best average, so it only makes sense that our best big-play defensive player be in the starting lineup.

I think the coaches are thinking 3-0.

GW needs to find a way to get Lavar back onto the field. Yeah his scheme is excellent, but we haven't forced a Turnover in two games now. Guys like Sean Taylor and Lavar make difference making plays. It would be nice to get them on the field together.

Carlos Rogers made a ball jarring hit, but it fell harmlessly out of bounds. I would love to see us get turnovers or even score some points on defense in the weeks to come.

I would like to have heard more about what goes on in practice with Lavar. I have no clue as to how the defensive practices are run and therefore can't ask intelligent enough questions. But is Lavar being included? To what extent? Does he show enough in practice to get on the field more? It is all about game performance?

I'll tell you what, if LaVar starts actually getting to the QB from that DE spot they've put him in at, we'll see more of him. I hope next week is his turn to shine.

If there is no communication between Lavar and the coaches, he is done in Washington. There is really something wrong with the relationship between him and the coaching staff.

I played competitive athletics and I know for a fact that when the coaches are not talking to you, that's not good. Star or not. It's the old cliche' of coaches yelling at or talking to you and then they stop, it's a problem.

I know that there are two sides to every story but is Greg Williams that arrogant that he is willing to not use one of the league's most talented athletes in some way, on defense? He didn't like what Marvin Lewis did on defense but it got him 11 or 12 sacks.....

A guy with this much talent is either traded for something of value or you play him in some sort of way... Are we to believe that Clemons is better than Lavar? Come on.... :?:

I'd like to see him play more but we are doing so well. Its one of those things don't fix it if it isn't broken.

Should be interesting to see what Gibbs has to say about this on his radio show later today.
