"Team" Players

Post by roybus14 »

I am not sure exactly what is going on with Lavar? So reports say that he refused to play on STs so he didn't get any playing time as a result. Some reports say that he just doesn't fit into the scheme. For whatever reason, he is not playing. If he is not being a "Team" Player, then shame on him.

The one person that has really surprised me as being a team player, is Clinton Portis. After the high output seasons he had in Denver, he has really said and done all of the right things concerning his role and the team. It has to be frustrating to him that he can't "get off" like he did in Denver. He has done a very good job of not letting it show and saying all of the right things. That must be a testament to his maturity and leadership and Gibbs in getting him to "buy-into" the system. He even skipped the "the U's" workout in Miami, stayed here and added 20lbs to be more of the back Gibbs is looking for.

As fans, we will probably never know the real deal behind what's going on with Lavar and his role but whatever it is, it needs to be resolved. With the injuries that are popping up, we don't need to waste his talent and our money by making him sit.....

Clinton has tasted success early in his career, wheras Lavar has not. Clinton is hungry to get back to team winning ways, Lavar, despite his words, aparrently, does not.

Have you stopped to think that part of the reason WHy we're alone at the top of the NFC east this morning has something to do with #56 watching instead of playing? It's more than just a coincidence. My 2 cents

If LaVar actually refused to play ST, he's only hurting his chances of playing more on defense.

I will give him credit as a good teammate as well. Prior to almost every offensive possession, LA was pumping them up on the sidelines, patting them on the back and doing what he could to be a good teammate.

True. True.

I think he was spoiled by his being marketed as "Mr. Redskin" before Joe got here, and now the side effects are starting to show.

If he's not injured, and he's just being "uncoachable", I really hope someone knocks some sense into him to just man up and play. He's gotta earn his spot this year, just like everyone else has.

I'm beginning to think that the reason they're going about it is three-fold:

1- By giving him minimal playing time this year, they can prevent him from going to the pro-bowl, which would require him to really bust his tail for the next few years, in D.C., for him to get the disputed 3.5 million dollars he'll get by going to the pro-bowl a few times.

2- Ease him into the system to where he gets the point that there can be no free-lancing, and if free-lancing is done, then no playing time, which equates to no pro-bowl appearances, which equates to no $3.5 million.

3- Ease him back, medically, to where he is 100% when he returns, which assures us of a LaVar that is healthy, and determined to go to the pro-bowl.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

You bring up an interesting point. Wasn't part of his new deal the opportunity to become a free agency if he "chooses" not to take the $3.5 million bonus? Can't Lavar theoretically be a free agent after next year? Someone please help with this issue.

I think that part of their agreement may have been for Lavar to get his money, but to stay out of the way. Of course, the injury has been a factor, but the team and #56 may have reached an agreement to part ways.

My take on the Lavar situation is that Greg Williams is sending a message to Lavar and to the team, that this defense is top rated because it is a combination of TEAM players, sticking to their assignments and not freelancing.

It really suprised me when Lavar came in for two plays in the 2nd Qtr, and by the end of the game Chris Clemons was in the rotation in the 4th Qtr, not Lavar.

I would love to see thing get resolved and if anything, Lavar has to have value as a third down pass rusher. Daniels and Wynn get no penetration at the line of scrimmage, and Lavar is much bigger then Clemons, he should at least be used in a Peter Bouleware type role.

Very good point.
Maybe LA see's this as the coaches not letting him earn his money?

From the Redskins management side of it, I don't think the $ plays a factor at all. If they thought Lavar could help them win games, they would not hold him out to not make the pro-bowl and not earn $3.5M. Our coaching staff and front office want to win in the worst way. They would gladly give #56 $3.5M if it came as a result of Lavar taking our defense and team to the next level. Lavar on the sidelines may be due to his injury or how he fits into GW's defensive schemes but I just don't think $ is on GW's or Coach Gibbs' mind.
After every game, every play & every highlight, I'll always remember #21. RIP Sean.

My point exactly.... More like Terrell Suggs. What do they have to lose, they are getting any production out of Daniels and Wynn. If teams run on his side, our LB corp and CBs are good enough to come up and stuff the run on his side.... ](*,)

The problem is his role in the game. When we need a lb to roam then Lavar comes in. Williams has individual assignments and thats just not what Lavar does. Its really do bad but he doesn't sound like he's willing to budge on that.
