WEEK 4 EARLY RESULTS:

Santana Moss: 6 catches, 87 yards
David Patten: 3 catches, 15 yards

L. Coles: 1 catch, 16 yards
Rod Gardner: (plays monday night)

SEASON TOTALS:

Santana Moss: 15 catches, 342 yards, 2 TD (22.8 yards per catch)
David Patten: 7 catches, 46 yards (6.57 YPC)

L. Coles: 16 catches, 167 yards, 1 TD (10.44 YPC)
Rod Gardner: 0 catches, 0 yards

Wow, crazy! :shock:

Moss certainly looks like a #1 WR out there doesn't he? I al;ways thought he was good but he's also doing all the important little things like catching the ball over the middle, converting crucial 3rd down, and blocking well. I honestly don't see how he could be concieved as being an inferior player to Coles right now.

#1 WR, #2 WR, #3 WR, that's all perception!! They can call Moss our #10 WR for all I care, he's still going to be an integral part, but not the only part, of this offense this year. I've never cared for this "#1 WR or #2 WR" stuff, but even more importantly than whether he's a #1 WR, is the fact that he's a playmaker. He's explosive, and has a lot more intensity than we've had at that position in a long time. Coles lacked leadership, incentive, and arguably intensity. Coles seemed to just keep to himself and not worry about the outcome of the game. Moss wants to win, and it shows.

Laveranues Coles: 6 catches 89 yards
Rod Gardner: 3 catches 33 yards

Still looks like Coach made the right decision.

Now compare Moss 2004 numbers with Coles 2005 numbers.

Alright, compare Moss '05 to Coles '04. Or Coles '04 to Coles '05, he has had almost identical stats the last two years. Moss is not only far superior to Coles, he is also second best in the NFL in yds/game and one of the best WRs in the league right now! There is no comparison, Moss is on a completely different level.

Coles played the possession receiver role with the Redskins, as David Patten is playing now. That would be the best comparison.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Moss has turned out to be everything we as fans had hoped we were getting in Coles two season ago. I think that we can certainly compare the two, as far as their benefit to their teams, I just don't think you can look at stats as an end all determination.

It doesn't matter! You can't argue that Moss isn't a top five WR right now, period! Coles isn't even top 20.

Coles has become a possession reciever because he can't get seperation downfield or make big plays. Moss is as much a possession reciever as anyone. Through the first three games, 11 of his receptions were to convert on 3rd down. That's just incredible.

I agree with JF. People can't bash Coles because he didn't have breakaway speed last year--he wasn't being utilized as that kind of a receiver (and with the toe bit he's probably lost the ability to be an effective speedster).

I was sad when I heard Coles say the things that he did when he left, but while he was here he gave 100% on the field and kept 100% quiet off the field, and you can't ask for more than that from a guy. At the end of the day he didn't believe in the system and left. If he had believed in the system, I wouldn't mind having him as a possesion guy in tandem with Moss. Patten has dropped a couple of balls this year and seems to be having trouble getting open. But that's just my My 2 cents

coles is a speedy guy, but as annapolis said, we werent using him that way. he was our possession receiver, which is what rod gardner should have been. coles was tough, broken fingers, messed up toes, getting his arse handed to him when he went over the middle. that's why i bought his jersey and continue to wear it, becuase i like the way he plays. but moss...man, that guy is something else. whooo!!!!!!!! that's all i can say about him lol.

Receiving Yards - Moss is #9 and Coles is back there some where

Receptions - Moss #23 Coles #25

Average Yards per Game -Moss #2 Coles #39

Average Yards per Catch Moss #15 Coles #91
This Stat is quoted more than any other but no one mentions Darnerien McCants is ranked higher than both of them.

Like JF said they are used differently.... Gibbs did advise Coles of the upcoming changes and he still wanted out.
There are other differences that should be considered also.
Moss had 2 different QBs this year, although Coles had played with Chad in the past Chad's not in there now and Coles has had twice the number of QBs has Moss.

Coles says he is happy in NY, Moss says he is happy in DC.

I know I'm happy with this trade so far

Patten really hasn't shown me much; he may be an upgrade over "50-50" but the Redskins could use another wide receiver to go along with Santana. He catches the ball in open space but easily gets knocked off his route, he is at best a 3rd wide receiver; he definetely needs to pick up his game.

I don't think so. He's leading the NFL in yds/game and 3rd down conversions and he's caught 4 TDs. Show me ONE WR in the NFL who has been better so far.

As a Redskins fan, you have to really be happy with the Coles for Moss deal now, no matter the cap hit. I for one was not that excited about Moss but that sure has changed. As of this week, he is the #1 receiver in yards in the NFL and has contributed more than any other player on the team, in my opinion!

What a steal/deal!!!!

Why are we not seeing the "who got the better end of the deal" analysis from the sportswriters? They killed that w/the Champ Bailey/Clinton Portis trade.

It's hands down right now...this deal was a steal. If he's not careful, he's going to outplay that huge contract he signed (tell me that 'Skins don't look smart having locked him up long term -- they were ridiculed in the offseason for doing that...I'm ready to see somebody eat some crow on that one)....
