I thought I read somewhere that the rule was changed. I think he might actually have to be convicted to lose his post. I'll have to check on that, though.

I thought I read somewhere that the rule was changed. I think he might actually have to be convicted to lose his post. I'll have to check on that, though.

They (Republicans) did change the rule to "conviction" needed, to prevent just this circumstance, but they had to change it back because it was such crass hypocrisy, since they were the ones to implement the original rule back in '94.

And I saw on CNN that DeLay chose to step down from the majority position. I didn't see it on Fox News so we'll see if that "liberal biased CNN" is right or not.

There is no "Delay's demise". He stepped down from his position temporarily as required. As soon as this goes to trial and he's found "not guilty", he'll step right back in.

It does make one wonder if it is a partisian witch hunt after finding out that this was the SIXTH grand jury convened. The first five refused to return the indictment.

This same DA went after Kay Bailey Hutchinson back in the early nineties and had his hat handed to him. He'd better hope that that is all that's handed to him after taking on Delay, a man who is notorious for retribution.

Its a B.S. Partisan-based indictment. The prosecutor is a Democrat hack that has been looking for years to get his shots at him. Basically throwing stuff at the wall to see what would stick. My guess is this will be a whole bunch of nothing. But will still affect the House since Delay has to step down (GOP rules) from his leadership position during the term of the Grand Jury or until the disposition of the case in court. Still, Delay will get his day in court and prove this is a whole bunch of nothing. But that won't matter to the average voter that doesn't pay attention. The Democrats know this and thats why they do these types of things.

This indictment might be "BS Partisan Biased", but it might not. I really got to watch the news a little bit and catch up on everything about it before I post my opinion of him being guilty or not. I kind of hope it is "BS Partisan Biased" because that would be awesome! The republicans hit Clinton with the "BS Partisan Baised" for so many years. It just got tiring to hear "more republican BS". It would be great if the democrats are getting some payback. But if he is guilty then its good that the democrats are not letting him get away with it.

Personally, I think its bullcrud that he's stepping down from his position. In this country you are innocent until proven guilty. It seems like he's being punished for a crime that he has not been found guilty of. THAT IS BULLCRUD! But the GOP set that up so now they're paying for it. Hopefully, they'll change that after this.

Actually, the reason for stepping down is simple. You can't fully and totally concentrate on such an important leadership position while have to meet with lawyers, discuss trial stretegy, etc.

It's kind of like Sean Taylor taking off the last few OTA's to concetrate on his legal matters.

I await the indictments to be handed down against him. It's my understanding that the only campaign finance law in Texas, is that you can't use corporate funds for anything but administrative purposes. This is the law that DeLay broke.

Uh, McFly, they didn't know what they were getting into. They were promised jobs in America, many times actually paying money to go there. In the case of the woman who testified in the lawsuit that has brought some relief, no thanks to DeLay, her village had taken up a collection to send her there in hopes that she might be able to send back money. Most are indentured servants trying to pay back the money they "owe" for the flight to "America". If these women couldn't make back their travel money in the garment sweat shops, then they were forced into prostitution, and if they became pregnant, they were forced to have abortions.

DeLay fully approved of the working and living conditions. The Texan's salute to the owners and Abramoff's government clients was recorded by ABC-TV News: "You are a shining light for what is happening to the Republican Party, and you represent everything that is good about what we are trying to do in America and leading the world in the free-market system"

Later, DeLay would tell The Washington Post's Juliet Eilperin that the low-wage, anti-union conditions of the Marianas constituted "a perfect petri dish of capitalism. It's like my Galapagos Island."
