what's up with the ravens ???

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

They have no quarterback.

Ray Lewis is the Ravens. But one guy can't win a Super Bowl.

Seriously though, as much as I hate the Ravens, and as much as I have loved watching them suffer these first two weeks, I have a feeling that they're not going to be 1-6 or something in a couple weeks - they have a smart coach, and I'm sure they will put some kind of a run together - but I hope not.

I disagree, Gibbs' Hog; I don't think the Ravens have a smart coach.

It is notable that no team that started 0-2 last year managed to make the playoffs.

And, in its own minor way, it has been satisfying to know how badly they've been struggling.

I disagree that Ray Lewis is the Ravens. He was, but he's not even the best defender on the team. He's the leader no doubt, but he's no longer the player that makes the biggest difference.

No quarterback = no offense. It's the same old story that's been occuring the last 5 years.

That's true; however, wasn't Green Bay 1-4, and still made it in?

All I'm saying is that IF the Ravens are at all capable of being a good team this year, they should be able to come back from an 0-2 start. If they're not, (and I don't believe they are), then an 0-2 start may lower their confidence enough to affect them for the rest of the season. That's what I'm hoping for. We're due for a year where we can finally gloat over those crows...I mean, ravens.

living in ravens territority, i end up watching a good amount of their games, especially as a "bonding" thing with my fiancee's father. i actually disagree with the assessment that QB is their problem. i definitely don't think boller is a good QB, but they could win some games with him, and wright is clearly better than boller, good enough to get the job done if the defense holds, etc.

right now there are two main problems: the defense is in disarray. they are currently very uncertain of their assignments in rex ryan's fancy new defense. you can see them frantically gesturing to each other out of confusion before the snap, and receivers are getting open pretty easily while they try to figure out who's supposed to cover him. i would imagine this problem will wane as the season progresses and they get more comfortable with the new defense. so i think the defense will get fixed.

but the problem that causes the most concern is the o-line. i have nicknamed them "The Matadors", since they seem to just pull aside and wave as the defenders as they rush through the line. on almost every single against the titans, The Matadors were shoved back 5 yards or more behind the line of scrimmage, almost as soon as the play began. there were literally only 5 or 6 times that wright did NOT get hit when e dropped back to pass. jamal lewis had 13 or 14 yards rushing, total!!

i thought they had good players on their o-line. so maybe they are just having a rough start and will pick it up. but, if they don't, they will finish as one of the worst 4 or 5 teams in the NFL this year.

They stink -- that's what!

Billick, the offensive "genius" can't pull his stuff together. I distinctly remember the label of him being a pedigree QB developer, too. Umm, tell that to Tony Banks, Elvis Grbac, Jeff Blake, and now (his ultimate achievement!) Kyle Boller.

He's a hack and that kind of garbage starts at the top and always rolls downhill.
"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."
