Seattle

Post by gregory smith »

Ok, so we know about Hasselbeck & Shaun Alexander, what about Seattle's defense. Ray Rhodes, right? Anyone care to offer some early insight on this game?

I watched their game on Sunday and I wasn't very impressed. They are giving up over 115 rushing yards a game.

I'm just pumped. Been losing for so long and kept the faith. I saw your post about watching the game with your son, I shared the experience with my 14 year old as well. (I made him go to school though, my wife is a school teacher)

Right now, we're getting ready to venture out into the world in our gear (Sonny has a Hogs.net shirt) with a new sense of pride.
I want to enjoy it a little longer.
I'll get into the Seahawks game this time next week. For now, Dallas week lasts for two, and it doesn't burn any more.
I'll be watching to see what you boys and girls dig up on Seattle, though. :)

They are a talented defense, but...

They don't play all 4 quarters. Typically they will look very impressive in the first half. In the second half, you will see them let teams back in the game (if they are ahead) or pull ahead (if they are even). Seattle usually isn't behind going into the half.

They are vulnerable to the pass, and big plays in particular. I blame this on scheme and coaching. Through the years they have always had very talented cornerbacks (Springs, Lucas, Trufant, Dyson, Bobby Taylor) and decent safetys. Rhodes often runs a prevent or soft zone defense in the second half and seems to willingly give up huge chunks of yards. His safetys often look out of position, but again I think this is coaching/sceme. This bland scheme might work if they had a consistent front-4 pass rush, but they don't.

Their front 7 is built well to stop the run - for the most part. This year they are starting a rookie at MLB - one that often hit the wrong gap in the preseason. I didn't notice anything good or bad from him vs. Jax - they didn't run alot.

The way to beat the Seahawks D, IMO, is through the air. Stretch their zone and look for the open reciever. They'll give you time.

I was moreso worried about Dallas than the seahawks. We'll shutdown the RB. I don't see their WR's as a threat.

Rhodes has no clue about our offense because he's been gone for so long.

Keys to success.

1. Work on WR/QB timing during this BYE week. 5 days a week, work on it.

2. Let Jon heal up and lets get this running game going.

3. 3 WR sets, they'll focus on Santana.
