Official 2005 "The Refs Suck" Thread

Post by die cowboys die »

i was thinking maybe we can keep a running tally in this thread of all the lousy calls that went against the redskins, or if we ever actually get any that go our way that shouldn't have i guess.

so far, i have the following:

GAME 1 vs. BEARS:
1. "Moose" clearly catches and fumbles, redskins recover. refs rule "incomplete pass".
2. Chris Cooley called for a questionable "Offensive Pass Interference" penalty that negates a TD. cooley did make contact, but it seemed like he and the defender either initiated contact simultaneously, or the defender did so every so slightly before cooley.
3. Ramsey is decapitated with a flagrantly illegal "clothesline" hit. should've been a 15 yard penalty, 1st and goal. instead, bears gain posession after the "fumble".

GAME 2 vs. COWBOYS:
1. some WR (i forget who) clearly catches and fumbles, redskins recover. the refs call "incomplete". he MIGHT have been "down by contact", but there is no way it was an incomplete pass.

2. late in the game, the same thing. sean taylor nails crayton right after he makes a catch, the balls fly loose, redskins recover, game over. but the refs rule "incomplete". maybe it was a catch, maybe it wasn't. but it should have been reviewed. it was within the last 2 minutes of the game, so the refs had to decide to review it, and they didn't.

i am frustrated by this because they are taking away our forced turnovers, and we are losing the turnover battle as a result. we've eeked out two wins but if we keep losing the turnover battle it's going to be tough.

am i missing any other bad calls/no-calls/etc?

I think you're reaching on the "blown calls" last night.

As a matter of fact, that was the beauty of our win last night. We didn't have to "benefit" from phantom calls by the refs. We whupped their tails fair and square, in their house!!!

Stop complaining, and enjoy these next wo weeks!!!!! :celebrate:

WE BEAT DALLAS!!!

Crayton fumble

Post by mcg1075 »

They couldn't review the Crayton fumble. Once the ref blows the whistle, the play is dead. If they did review the entire play, they could rule that Crayton caught the ball, but they could not award the fumble recovery to the Skins since the play was dead at that point. So we were better off that it wasn't reviewed.

I wish the refs weren't so trigger happy with their whistles. It's better to rule plays like these as fumbles and then change the ruling to incomplete pass during the review.

I dunno.

Last week I started a preemptive thread about the refs but in this game I think it did really even out in the end.

I think those holding penalties on Dallas were justified but still borderline. The two 'Skins plays you refer to were also borderline. There was nothing blatant in this game, overall it was fair.

The Bears game was another story altogether, that officiating was aweful but we still came away with the win so I'm over it.

Bottom line, this team has overcome the obstacles it has faced thus far and we have created our own luck. Great win by the team last night.

And that is probably the biggest difference from last year.

I agree with you on the Bears game. In last night's game. the only thing that stands out for me is the quick whistle on the Taylor hit. That was a fumble ... period.

I'm amazed that they actually DID call Keyshawn for the Motion Penalty...what decade is it again?

Maybe a little redemption for the Green Bay game last year, that call was a lot worse.

I guess I got frustrated at the close horse collar tackle attempted several times on Portis. It wasn't a matter that I wanted the yards, though it would have nice, but I hate seeing people play the game to hurt someone. That is not what it's about at all.
