Gibbs Says Ramsey May Start! More Notes

Redskins | Even with Brunell, Ramsey Could Start - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 21 Feb 2004 10:22:33 -0800

Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs was clear to point out Saturday, Feb. 21, that even if the Redskins finalize a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars and land QB Mark Brunell, that does not mean that Brunell will be the team's starting quarterback and it will be an open competition that could come away with Patrick Ramsey as the team's starter. Gibbs still believes Ramsey has a bright future with the Redskins and said he couldn't see any hypothetical situations that involves Ramsey being traded to another team.

Updating ongoing reports, Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs said at the NFL Combine the team isn't sure on what will happen with CB Champ Bailey, who has been slapped with the team's franchise tag. Gibbs speculated that about six teams are interested in the services for Bailey, who is currently on the trading block. Gibbs said the team will end up either keeping him or receiving proper value for a player of his ability. He was clear to note the Redskins would love to keep him.

Stuffing my tongue firmly into my cheek...

Yeah but why should we believe Joe?

I mean, he's just the coach. He's just a guy that has never, ever had a propensity to lie. he's just a guy that garners the respect he does from EVERYONE because of how straight a shooter he is.

I'm sure Sexton and ESPN and every other speculator out there has a much better idea of what's going on with the Redskins than the legendary coach himself does.

I'm sure of it.

I think we should all choose to believe the rumors over hearing it from the horse's mouth itself.

That way, every half bit opinion that shows itself on this board gets the play that it does.

Taking tongue out of cheek.

Wake up people... smell the coffee... we're talking about Joe Gibbs here and for those of you not old enough to realize it... what Joe says, goes... period. if it's an open competition at QB... then it don't matter what Sexton says... what prisco says... what pasquarelli says... they're just playing the devil's advocate and practicing National Enquirer level journalism for the sake of a story.

Believe in Joe. Everybody who has ever been associated with the man already does. How can that many people possibly be wrong?

Well said BH! People need to realize that what Joe Gibbs says, goes!

To those that have been there since the Glory Days, you know what I mean. To those that came along in the Norv/Schottenhimer/Spurrier days, I say sit back and watch a legend at work!
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

of COURSE he's going to *say* that, he wants to keep Ramsey. There's no way in hell Ramsey actually does start though now that Gibbs got his precious veteran with the 8 mill signing bonus.

The fact that that's being written is the most obvious thing in the world. And anyone with a brain knows its meaningless. He's doing it partially to keep Ramsey from wanting to be traded, but Ramsey (and his agent) have already made up their minds.

I don't disagree Gibbs is a man of great character and worthy of respect...yet, he is NOT beyond deception.

In his book "Racing to Win" he talks about his visit to John Riggins to get him back on the team. Gibbs promised him everything...and yet after the meeting, he felt that Riggins was an egomaniac. His plan was to sign Riggins and then trade him (a very deceptive move).

Riggins threw a wrench in his plans by telling him he would only sign if there was a "No Trade" clause in the contract. The rest is history.

Gibbs is a great salesman to the players. Yet, today's players have more power in negotiations because of Free Agency. I have no doubt that he will make both QB's feel like they are the starters. Yet, one of them is going to be very disappointed.

first post here folks,i love the site.i have'nt been able to see why ramsey thinks that gibbs should give him the starting job, instead of earning it.he's a great qb,but he really only took a beating last year, and he only showed how tough he was.there will be a competition between ramsey &brunnell, and may the player who gives us the best chance to return us to nfl prominence win.i would love to see the skins go after kevan barlow or duce staley, they are the best available out there.indy's dominic rhodes would fit in well as a redskin too.i look forward to chatting with all you guys.

I honestly believe that once these guys spend some quality time with Gibbs, NOBODY will be disappointed with their roles. They will all be given a fair shot, and they will all understand his decisions. That's how it always was with Gibbs' teams.

Again, it comes back to livelihood.

Quality time with coach Gibbs OR 2.5 million dollars. Which one do you choose?

Before, Gibbs was able to go to the owner and squeeze out some money for the disgruntled players. Now, he can't do that. The salary cap is a very restrictive thing.

And as far as the "grow up" comment from the other poster...c'mon. Who wants a QB that won't be disapointed if he is not the starter? Every player on the team should be disapointed if he doesn't start. If he is not, then he will never improve. It has nothing to do with being "childish".
