Ok guys, I know you guys just love hearing about Jackson's season, but I'm sharing anyway.

Today the Eagles faced the Steelers. Jackson wasn't feeling well prior to the game but stuck it out for the team. I was very proud of him. His team beat the Steelers 38 to 12. They now are the only undefeated team in their league. One more win and they are guarenteed to be in the 'Super Bowl'. The best part is he had an absolute blast today and the team they played was just like them, still in the learning phase. I was happy to see his team actually doing some fakes and some more exciting stuff as they were getting bored runing the same play every time. They also got a lot of practice for the youngsters.

Jackson was the QB every time they were in the red zone. Even if it wasn't his rotation the coach would sit someone else to bring him in. I have to admit I love hearing his sweet but loud "DOWN, SET, HIKE"!!

The parents are a menace.

I coached little league baseball for four years, umpired for eight, coached girls softball three more years (an SI writer named Peter King was an opposing coach), and coached youth soccer for about four years.

I also trained other umpires, worked on the rules committee, helped to run tryouts, and assigned players to teams. Also lined the fields and raked out the puddles on rainy mornings.

Early on -- after umpiring my first game -- I concluded that the adults ruin kids games. (One reason I don;t snap and snarl at King, in spite of his mistaken ideas about Art Monk, is that I've seen him with the kids, and he is the opposite of some of the maniacs I coached against and umpired).

I could give blood-curdling examples, much worse than the knock-down fight at mid-field between a parent and an assistant coach...that one stunned the kids and stopped the game.

Best advice we had for our teams: play as hard as you can until the game is over, and then have fun. Forget it. Go for pizza.

Just an update. Yesterday the undefeated Eagles took on the Steelers. They won in very dramatic fashion. There was 22 seconds left on the clock and the game was tied 12 to 12 and Jackson pulled off a great fake hand off and turned to hand off to another kid and he ran it in for the length of the field for the winning touchdown! It was an awesome win just like the Skins game.

There was a major event for us during the game though. There was this one little Steeler that could not get the grasp of the fact that it was FLAG football. He kept tackling. He took down two or our kids and then finally took down Jackson pretty hard before he got reprimanded. Jackson was down on the field crying because his ankle hurt and it took every ounce of will power in my body not to run out there and make sure he was ok. He got up and was helped to his bench. In the end his ankle was just a little sore and he went back in. HOWEVER during one of the last drives of the game another little kid who is very fast on Jackson's team was taken down by his neck. I flipped out. He could have seriously been hurt and we got lucky that he was not, however the refs stopped warning this kid and kind of turned a blind eye to it. I hope next week the refs take it seriously or one of these kids is going to get hurt. Ok this short update turned got little bit longer then I intended, sorry guys.

Way to Go Eagles

Well done Jackson for getting back in the game

So is he still upset when he can not score himself ?

Great restraint Niki

He is. The coach refers to him as his star QB but it just isn't enough for Jackson. Especially because they threw one pass and he didn't get to do it because of his ankle injury. But it's ok.

Thanks Amberion. Hopefully I'll have some pictures soon to share. ;-)

Ok it's been a while since I've updated this thread but it's only because of all the rain.

Of course it doesn't help that we are the only ones who live outside of the local calling area so the coach puts off telling us about changes until we call him. ANYWAY today we woke up at about 8:30 or 9:00 and I said "Scott we should call the coach, just to see when the play offs are going to be!" Well good darn thing we called. THe game was at 11 am this morning. It's official our team is headed to the Super Bowl! Next weekend the Eagles will take on the Raiders for the Championship title. We are very proud of our little guys and looking forward to one last game. Unforunately it is against the team with the coaches who don't like me! :-( The other piece of bad news is I've become fast friends with another mom who has almost as big of a mouth as I do. So next week our plan is to help each other keep our cool. Our kids are the champs whether they win or not because we know that we played by the rules and they will not. ;-)

Jackson's having a blast and hopefully I'll have pictures to post next week.

Yeah, give them hell Niki, so I can have to stick up for you and be threatened by a steroid abusing cop who seems to think he's intimidating.

"Don't get yessed at by my team's coach. I have no problem working over time to arrest you". There are good cops, but most of the ones I've met are full of them selves like that moron.

Ok today was the day and what a game. I've not seen a game this exciting in quite a while. They went back and forth all day. And prior to the game Scott found out the two coaches who were saying things to me last time were given a paper by the Parks and Rec faculty that said they were being watched this game because of their previous poor decisions while coaching.
The coach was getting very frustrated because try as they might they were never able to run away with this game. Everytime they scored we scored. Jackson was a monster on defense and was right there on every play today. So the game had 1:10 seconds left and we couldn't score. The other team was down 34 to 40 and they got the ball back. They scored a touchdown and the two point conversion. and by the time they were done there was 9 seconds on the clock. Most of the parents and family were just happy to have such a great game because all of the kids played well and I only had to say something twice to the other coach. lol It wasn't loud and I was nice. :nana: But then the coach called a play and they handed the ball off to Jacob. Not only is the kid fast he actually was able to cut away from two other kids. So Jackson's team won the game 46 to 42. Here is the kicker. When the other team scored what they thought was the winning touchdown they were jumping up and down and cheering. HOWEVER when we did it they kept telling Scott and the other coaches that we were celebrating too much. Oh well. Our kids were excited. We were excited. They did the impossible and beat the team who even tried to cheat to win. What an underdog story. These little guys played their butts off today and I'm proud as could be. Jackson is a part of a Superbowl Champion team!!

That sounds awesome! Congratulations Jackson, Niki, and Scott. Jackson's got his first championship down--by the way, Terrell Owens has never won a championship on any level that he's played.

Well, the interview I read only mentioned high school, college, and the NFL. I'm just filling in the blanks. . .
