I understand what you are saying, but, please don't tell me that you'd exchange a shot at the playoffs (maybe a SuperBowl) because you like "the long ball". If we plow through our competition averaging 12 points a game, make the playoffs, and win the XL...

I'll be a happy Skins fan on the day of our Super Bowl Parade.

What about Brunell's performance makes you think he can get us to the playoffs? When B-more went to the big game with no offense, they got points every game from the defense and special teams. Our defense didn't score any points Sunday, and our special teams gave up the only points scored against us!

your assumption is that i believe that brunell can take us to the playoffs. i don't believe that. it's not the long ball that i enjoy about watching ramsey play, it's the aggressiveness. throwing 10 or 15 yards downfield rather than 4. i'd rather be aggressive and lose than be timid and careful and lose anyway. if i thought that brunell's careful style (not to say that ramsey is careless) of play would get us to the promised land, i'd shut up. but i saw where that got us last year, and i'd like to move on. i spent most of last year bored watching the redskins offense play, and lose. i want to see what ramsey can do over a period of a few games before i dump on him.

Cville, I wasn't making the assumption that #8 would lead us to the playoffs. I merely asked Joe if he prefered to "go down fighting" than to follow a formula that delivers a win. A follow-up question would be, "would you prefer to go 9-7 with a high risk offense or 12-4 with games averaging points in the teens. It's a hypothetical question.

However, I will say that I believe Brunell can lead us to the playoffs.

I will also say that I believe Ramsey can lead us to the playoffs...if he eliminates his mistakes.

I just think Brunell gives us the best chance at playing mistake-free football, right now.

Your hypothetical question assumes that Brunell can win us games -- yet reality has shown that he is just as capable of losing us games. Do I need to remind you of the Baltimore game last year?

It's not "Brunell's careful style" to begin with. The OC was calling the plays. Brunell played the backup role yesterday. He followed orders, and didn't turn the ball over. Considering he didn't get the bulk of the snaps in practice last week, the gameplan in the second half played up the strengths of the personnel on the field when Brunell came in. Portis got the ball, Betts got the ball. it was a winning formula, considering the circumstances.

Do I need to remind you that it's 2005?

Dwell on last year all you want, but the proof is in what both QBs have done lately. Brunell looked the best during the preseason, is an accomplished QB, and leads the team better than Ramsey does.

Ramsey is currently still trying to figure out who he is. While I'd hate to see Ramsey's individual development suffer on account of a QB switch, I'm more concerned about the success of thie team. If Joe thinks Mark gives us the better chance of winning...I stand behind his decision to play Mark. Otherwise, it's Ramsey all the way.

However, Joe wants to win, and he won't stand for another rebuilding season like last year.

by 'careful', i wasn't referring to the play calling, but moreso the decision making at the qb position. i think brunell tends to throw the ball away more than ramsey -- sometimes that's goo, sometimes i think it needs to be forced a bit more than brunell does.

as for your 9-7 versus 12-4 question, i don't think it's valid. you're assuming that a team that averages points in the teens would win 12 games. not in this league, even with the skins defense. i think that was well proved last year. we need more on offense than just mistake-free football, and i don't think brunell can provide that.

If you think we can score 9 points on monday in Texas Stadium and walk away with a win, you are fooling yourself!

There are plenty of reasons that Brunell looked better in the preseason. One possibility is that he is a better QB, but I don't buy it. Brunell played against the scrubs in preseason -- when he saw real action he didn't get us any of the touchdowns we saw last month.

We shall see, then, won't we. Brunell is different from last year, and if Ramsey proves to be fragile THIS YEAR (both physically, and mentally) we'll get to see our "inept" QB lead us to the playoffs.

Meanwhile the tailgate rages on.

As long as defense doesn't allow more than a touchdown AGAIN, we'd be straight. Is that so hard to imagine???

Yes. What makes you think we can hold the majority of the teams we play to one score or less? Especially when we give up scores on Special Teams!

I don't know if you know this or not, but Dallas has some good recievers who find seams in the defense and make circus catches.

They also did quite well on run defense yesterday, against a good o-line and an elite RB!

We will definitely need a passing game one week from today.

Our defense is unbelievable!!! Special Teams mistakes will be corrected by game time. Watch for Thrash or Betts to return kicks/punts.

You seem to believe more in what the Cowgirls can do than what our defense can. Are you sure you don't root for bothe teams? How do you keep from going crazy?

If our defense shuts down their offense, and ours is the only one scoring....

voíla...we win the game. True, it's wishful thinking, but hey, I'd rather believe that that can happen than dwell on the fact that the 'Pies MIGHT score a touchdown. it's just me I guess.

Someone pointed out in another thread that the SD defense made some crucial mistakes that extended Cowboys drives. I'm believeing that our D will be so pumped to play their aggresive style without making the mistakes SD made. We can TOTALLY do it.

You heard it here first: LAVAR WILL HAVE A HUGE GAME!!!!!

i'm too smart for that. now, a clever man would put the pro-brunell serum into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

Texas Stadium. Monday Night. Crowd Noise. Patrick Ramsey. This is a formula for disaster. Brunell gives us the best chance to win Monday night. Period.
