Redskins chances this year...?
with the additions of Moss and Patten on offense, the losses of Smoot and Pierce on defense; are we talking about a wash here? personally, i feel the biggest addition will be Patten, coming from a proven winner. the guy is a veteran who will do his best to teach us to win, something the skins sorely need. Gibbs needs a winning attitude on the field, and i think Patten can and will provide it. my prediction - 9-7 with a wild card possibility. any other opinions out there?

i agree with your point about patten. however, losing pierce is not a big deal. the way gregg williams' defense is set up and played, the middle linebacker (actually all the players) has ample opportunity to make plays and tackles. if you remember, micheal barrow was going to be that MLB in his system, but was forced out of action due to injury. thus Pierce stepped up and made an impact. yes, losing him will hurt, but we have a plethora of talent at that position, aka Lemar Marshall, Zak Keasey, and possibly Robert McCune if needed.
Gibbs has already brought a winning attitude to washington, he does that with his presence. he is the only one in the entire organization who can look at those super bowl trophies and know that he held them each time they were won, because he was the coach. the man is a proven winner, no matter what sport he is in, auto racing or football. he surrounds himself with his coaches, as we have seen they are joined at the hip. patten will help with the winning attitude, but he can only take it so far: in the locker room. everything else comes from the other players, as they have to buy into gibbs' scheme (which they all have IMO) and believe that he can take them to the promised land.
my prediction for the skins: 10-6 with a wild card berth. after that, we'll let gibbs work his playoff magic, but for right now, let's focus on the here and now, one game at a time. don't think for a second that chicago will be a cakewalk--if we don't want other teams thinking we're a cakewalk, we best not take any game lightly. as portis said, we're not going to be push overs, we're going to push people over. im out...

G'day bigWillie! welcome to the board also. We are cautiously optomistic here for various reasons and some are a little more pessimistic but I think we will see a better team effort this year and this should translate into a playoff spot.
I think we will miss Pierce and Smoot but the defence will still be very strong this year and IMO Patten and Moss together with a better line means a better offence than Coles and Gardner.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

With all the FA's Dan brought in in all the years past the best we could do is 7-9, and snifted a couple wild cards because of bad league play. I doesn't matter who we brought or who we lost. This team has to come together, quit losing the football, stop taking the stupid penalty's and score a few more times.

Gosh -- can't wait to see something like that!!

"The biggest misrepresentation there is that [it's because] Dan's got a lot of money. That's not it," Gibbs said. "We've got a rule. Believe me, if we had no rules, Dan would spend some money."

I don't see how anyone can predict what the Skins will do this year. Right now, they are a "6-10" team with an unproven QB. That's not exactly a recipe for success. Which is why the "media" is picking the Skins to do so poorly. While I'm hopeful that Ramsey steps it up, and that the team assumes the identity of a "winner," right now all I can do is expect the same old, same old.
This is certain: if the Skins can't convincingly beat a rookie QB this week, they have no hope of topping any of their NFC East foes.
That said, game on!

It's pretty easy actually. You take two numbers that add up to 16 and say one of them is wins and one is losses. I didn't think they were a 6-10 team after last season. I thought we were better than our record showed. Also I don't agree that Ramsey is unproven. He was our starter for the final 7 games last season, and showed steady improvement.

Actually the Skins along with every other team in the NFL are 0-0 as far as Ramsey being unproven that's your opinion, he has proved enough to Gibbs to be named the starter. Sure I think he needs to prove himself to a lot of US.

Well your recipe is flawed. Ramsey will not make or break this season. The Skins have upgrade the O-line which will be better able to protect the QB and open holds for Portis. The speed added to the WR corp. will prevent the constant 8 in the box that we faced last year.
If you're telling someone how to prepare a Spanish Omlette wouldn't you tell that person about the peppers and other seasonings? Or would you just say that you needs eggs and a frying pan for this recipe.

So if we win by 3 we should just mail in the rest of the season right?

Especially since we only play 16 games in a season!
Ok genius, get a life, 10-6 and 9-7.

I too like the additions of Moss and Joe, but my concern is the Q.B. Some has to get them the ball first, so we'll have to say. As far as defense goes, I think we are weak in the corners with Harris and Springs. I don't know what the skins were thinking when they got rid of Pierce and Smoot. Personally I thought Antonio Pierce should've gone to the Pro Bowl, nothing against Marcus Washington. I just want a win against Dallas, well 2, but I know you can't get greedy too early in the season. But, first thing's first, let's take care of the Bears.

And I thought we were trying to emininate the penalties.
As long as the holes get open.
There are no penalties for holding ... only for getting caught

The worst we will do in reality is 7-9. That is if everything just goes completely wrong. For some reason people (on here especially) think that we will go 9-7. Including myself. I think that we will suprise a lot of people and earn a playoff spot. We could even get past the first round. But lets face it, the Eagles and Falcons are still the class of the NFC, and we just do not compare to them...yet.

We almost beat the Eagles last year, our offense lost that game. If we can score 21 points against them our defense will bring us through.
We almost beat the Steelers too. Almost doesn't cut it but its a definately a decent gauge to how good we can be.
