Peerless Price unemployed but not for long
After months of speculation, the team released wide receiver Peerless Price Tuesday morning, parting with a once highly productive player who failed to live up to lofty expectations and a $37 million contract ($10 million signing bonus) after being acquired from the Buffalo Bills for a first-round draft pick in 2003.

Au contraire, he would be a good #1 in front of Moss...
Moss is a guy who NEEDS to be the #2 to be most effective.
He's had some great seasons, maybe he's attainable for us. Hmmm

Au contraire, right back at you. If perrless proved anything here in Atlanta, it was that he is not a #1, but a #2 receiver.

And that would be a problem, because neither of them are #1 receiver, they both need a good player opposite of them to loosen up the coverage.

You beat me to it. They are both good #2 recievers but neither one of them are true #1's.

SANTANA MOSS 2003:
16 games/12starts
74 catches
1105 yards
14.9 yard average
65 yard longest reception
10 TDs
17 of 20+ yards
5 of 40+ yards
49 for first downs
let's dispense with the notion that he's never had a proven season as a #1 WR, ok? those aren't astronomical numbers, but they are solid. the closest season Price had to that was 2003, when he still caught significantly less passes, even though he started 3 more games. and he still earned almost 300 less yards! and 7 less TDs.

IRVING, Texas - When the Atlanta Falcons released wide receiver Peerless Price on Tuesday, Price immediately got in contact with Cowboys quarterback and former Buffalo teammate Drew Bledsoe. His agent, among other calls, put one in to the Dallas Cowboys.
And by Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys were showing mutual interest, at least having returned the call to his agent Tim McGee.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said early Wednesday afternoon, "We're looking into it," meaning the Cowboys would at least discuss the possibility of what it would take to sign the 28-year-old wide receiver who was a two-year disappointment in Atlanta after the Falcons sent the Bills a first-round pick and signed Price to a seven-year, $37 million contract.
Price caught 94 passes for 1,252 yards and nine touchdowns during his final season with Bledsoe (2002) and then struggled these past two years in Atlanta, catching 109 passes for 1,413 and six touchdowns in 2003 and 2004 combined.
When asked after the team's early afternoon practice if the Cowboys were interested in possibly signing the seventh-year veteran receiver, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said, "I think we've had some discussions with him, but I don't know where they are.
"I think he's a pretty good player."
When asked if the Cowboys had a glaring need at the wide receiver position, Parcells simply said, "We are just trying to turn over very rock."

remember his season with bledsoe...i really hope they do not repeat that, for the love of god please don't let this season be the resurgence of bledsoe...or price for that matter.
as for the media bashing us if we had signed him, it would have gone somethnig like this:
"today the redskins agreed to a 1 year contract worth 2 million with a 500k signing bonus. sean salisbury in now to talk about the move. 'well trey, i don't know what they were thinking, they really screwed up on this one. he is unproven as a number one, so now they have 3 number 2 receivers on that roster. look for the redskins to go 0-16, this is just another move by daniel snyder to try and waste more money on bad talent.' sean salisbury everyone, we'll beback with more on NFL live, right after this"
instead, its like this:
"this is a great move for the cowboys, now they have a slot receiver who can burn DBs deep. look for them to have a winnning record in the NFC east, especially against the team everyone hates, the redskins. those guys have consistently proven that they have no offense, and their defense is suspect what with 8 returning starters, 5 who played at pro-bowl level. i just see price burning everyone, back to you trey"
you know waht...SCREW THE MEDIA. ahem...

It won't be an issue for us if we can get our offense to score us some points.
KeyShawn - Shutdown by Springs
Price - May cause some trouble for Rogers because he's a rookie
Glen - May cause some problems for Walt with his speed
Sean Taylor will be roaming around out there scaring these guys out of their minds.
What worries me a bit is a 3-4 WR set. They have some burners out there, I hope it doesn't stretch our defense too much. We're really going to need our D-line to step up this season.

Price signed that huge contract with ATL because they saw a lot of potential in the guy to be a great #1. I believe that was the same offseason that we grabbed those 4 Jets, including Coles. The comparisons were there between "Who got the better WR, the Redskins or Atlanta?" for a couple of weeks.
I'd say that we definitely got the better WR (though he's gone now), and Price has shown that without another big-name receiver he's not going to produce like a star #1 WR.
Keyshawn is hardly a big name anymore (if he ever was); I'm not too scared about this move by Dallas. At any rate, I believe that this year the defense deserves the benefit of the doubt from all of us fans (not saying any names, just making a general statement).

Sean Taylor sure did a good job of scaring that 6th rounder who played QB in college, didn't he?Chris Luva Luva wrote:It won't be an issue for us if we can get our offense to score us some points.
