And sadly I see Ade Jimoh making it, even though he may be the worst player in the NFL.

We're not going to keep 7 receivers on the roster. That's why I didn't include Dyson.

Another reason I didn't include Dyson is because of Darnerien's confidence on his chances of making the team.

True. Although I do believe Dyson has talent to make the team, you are right that we don't need 7 WR's when there are already 6 good ones on the roster.

But do you think he could be kept on the PS? Now, I'm not really sure how the PS works, but do you think we could just store him there and then bump him up if say Jacobs were to get hurt?

Or is he too high profile to be stuck on a Practice Squad?

He's not eligable for the practice squad.

Darnerien is confident he'll make the team?

I don't think so.

I've read a couple of articles stating the contrary in just the last day or two... I'll dig one up...

I'd hate to see this...I think Philly would pick him up right away...not sure they'd take Dyson. That's in of itself is reason to keep DMac!!

I think Gregg Williams said he's going to keep 5 safeties, so that's why I have 5.

I would probably keep Omar on the roster anyways if 5 safeties weren't a given. He has been outstanding so far.

I'm sorry but McCants maybe gone Tuesday, if not he CERTAINLY won't make the 53 man roster!

Every single time I have talked to him, he did not show any worry or doubt about making the team.

I saw that article in the paper, too. It's the way the writer is spinning it.

Saw that article in our local paper today too...but like Jake said....All conversations we have with him (and there have been many) - he's very confident he'll be a Redskin this season. However....Personally...I'm not sure just being on the outside looking in. I also think that if he is cut....Philly would pick him up in a heartbeat and he would definitely come back to haunt us. I've said that before. I do also know that Philly and the Giants were looking at him before we got him. And the Ravens were looking at him when we signed him to his last contract also.

To sum it up....I really hope he's here and he's on the field doing us some good. But...if not - I hope he goes somewhere they will let him play. That's what he wants to do and I will always be a Darnerien fan.

I would think that most players who were on the roster last year would be "confident" but I think he sounds realistic that he may not make the team in light of the fact that

1. James Thrash (a receiver) happens to be our best special teams player.

2. Taylor Jacobs (a receiver) has gotten into Gibbs' good graces.

3. Antonio Brown (a receiver) has outplayed him and is our starting kick returner.

Add those variables in with the fact that we run 2 and 3 receiver sets for the most part, and it seems clear that McCants or Dyson may be the odd man out. I would like to see McCants on the roster, because of his Red Zone knack for getting open, but if our offense continues at the pace that they are at right now, we will be absolutely fine.

We would have begged for the offensive production we have had so far last year and we would have won a bunch of games. If we can RALLY AROUND RAMSEY, and minimize the mishaps, we will be playing into the cold weeks of January....I haven't had that great feeling in a long time...knowing that your team is playing next Sunday in a playoff game.....amazing feeling to all you young fans I tell you.

I hate to say it but I think McCants might go...Anyone have any inside info on this? He hasn't played hardly at all in the games and Gibb's has singled out Dyson a few times this preseason with praise.

I think if DMac makes the team or not is because of what he can do here not his potential to hurt us by going to another team. I'm sorry that he seems to be close to some people but this is the the NFL and I do not want anyone here that does not make our team better. If anyone does not make our squad I wish them the best with whoever they can join and actually hope they make that team better. I mean why would you want someone who does not make your team better? That applies to everyone.

We should not keep anyone who does not deserve to be here regardless of where they might go, including our division.

The NFL is entertainment and all the players with the ability to get jobs entertaining us should work hard for the rewards that go with that. If they think they can rely on just their good looks and not want to earn that right then good luck - not here! I wish all the players for all the teams the best they can be for this year.

The Redskins are looking for a "few good men" with the right attitude and we are going to be there!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I agree Terri and I wish him well also! My point was only that we have to decide what's good for the team. I know that a player going to a team in our division might be construed to be "not good" but we cannot keep guys from that and sometimes they need a change to do better and some of these guys are class acts and should be given that chance.

good luck to DMac! I do not know him but from what you guys have said he sounds like a good person.

As of 6:30 PM 8/30/05 we are now down to 72 players (Tupa now on IR). Here in my view are the players on the bubble to make the final cut to 53 players. I have 21 players on the bubble. Thus only 2 of the 21 will make the final roster and one of those MUST be our punter/holder (Mohr or Groom). So who will be the other player to survive?

Vets and Draft Picks (15)
90 Clemons, Nic DE
13 Elliott, Jamin WR
16 Farris, Jimmy WR
2 Groom, Andy P
23 Jimoh, Ade DB
40 Johnson, Robert TE
30 Joyce, Eric CB
41 Kozlowski, Brian TE
62 Lenda, Tyler OL
15 Mohr, Chris P
30 Shabazz, Siddeeq DB
94 Warner, Ron DE
48 White, Manuel HB #3 Draft Pick
38 Wilds, Garnell DB
63 Wilson, Mark T

Europe Players (2)
31 Bethea, James DB
37 Brown, Rufus DB

College Free Agents (4)
78 Alston, Jon OL (South Carolina)
71 Jones, Aki DL (Fordham)
52 Keasey, Zak LB (Princeton)
14 Parson, Rich WR (Maryland)

Kevin Dyson, Nic Clemons, Khari Campbell, Pierson Prioleau and Rock Cartwright all played their way off the bubble and on the roster.

Manuel White may go on the IR instead of the practice squad, I’m wondering who else will wind up there in the next two days. Maybe Matt Bowen ???

Antonio. Brown may have undid all the good he has done in one night when you look at what Rich Parson and Jimmy Farris did. But did they do enough?

Zak Keasey, Nic Clemons and Brandon Barnes could make the team but look at who they are competing with.

Rufus Brown, Brian Kozlowski and Mark Wilson didn’t help their cause tonight.

Andy Groom has done well all pre-season and I saw nothing tonight that says Chris Mohr should be our punter.

Ade Jimoh’s name was called once all night and it wasn’t him getting toasted as we are use to … was that enough?

A lot of questioned were answered tonight. We’ll get the answer SOON.

Im pretty sure Rufus "the matador" Brown was on the practice squad last year and cannot be on it again. I might be wrong but i think he needs more than just practice squad time.

That 4th and goal play that Rufus got called for a pass interference on was total BS. The WR shoved Brown and Brown didn't make contact with the WR until he was out of bounds.

Ade "oh no!" Jimoh does appear to have improved his game, but I still don't want him playing much. Of course I don't have a warm and fuzzy about R. Brown or Wilds. But Roggers does seem to be getting very comfy @ CB and I don't expect any more "Bungles" type games for him.

Wonder how close Warpath will come to predicting the final 53? Any thoughts as to who you will make it, and who won't?

Ultimate Survivor: The Final 53

Will Warner's play help him survive the cut? By Robert Large WarpathInsiders.com
Date: Sep 2, 2005

With the deadline for cuts just hours away, the Redskins coaching staff is hard at work at the one task that is in the way of starting to prepare for the Chicago Bears in earnest—making the final cuts and getting the roster down to the 53 players that they will take into the 2005 season.

Only the last few spots were influenced by Thursday night’s performance and the task of trimming the roster is as much about strategy as it is about evaluating talent. Do they keep just five wide receivers in light of Taylor Jacobs’ questionable health Antonio Brown’s questionable hands? If they keep a sixth, where does that spot come from. Health issues also dominate decisions in the defensive backfield. Given the banged-up status of Matt Bowen and Ryan Clark, do they keep a fifth safety at the expense of a fifth corner? And since linebackers can be such valuable special teams performers, do they keep just seven and go with eight linemen or will Danny Smith be able to persuade Gibbs to juggle things to give him one more great athlete?

Our shot at those answers are below:

FINAL 53 MAN ROSTER PREDICTION

OFFENSE
QB’s (3) – Patrick Ramsey, Mark Brunell, Jason Campbell
RB’s (4) – Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Nehemiah Broughton, Rock Cartwright
WR’s (6) – Santana Moss, David Patten, Taylor Jacobs, James Thrash, Antonio Brown, Kevin Dyson
TE’s/H-backs (4) – Robert Royal, Chris Cooley, Mike Sellers, Brian Kozlowski
OL (9) – Chris Samuels, Derrick Dockery, Casey Rabach, Randy Thomas, Jon Jansen, Ray Brown, Jim Molinaro, Cory Raymer, Lennie Freidman
DEFENSE
DL (8) – Renaldo Wynn, Brandon Noble, Cornelius Griffin, Phillip Daniels, Joe Savale’a, Demetric Evans, Ryan Boschetti, Nic Clemons
LB’s (7) – Lavar Arrington, Marcus Washington, Warrick Holdman, Lemar Marshall, Robert McCune, Chris Clemons, Khary Campbell
CB’s (4) – Shawn Springs, Walt Harris, Carlos Rogers, Ade Jimoh
S’s (5) – Sean Taylor, Matt Bowen, Ryan Clark, Pierson Prioleau, Omar Stoutmire
SPECIAL TEAMS
LS (1) – Ethan Albright
K (1) – John Hall
P (1) – Andy Groom

Last Five On
Last Five Off

Brian Kozlowski TE
Robert Johnson TE

The injury to Manuel White, the need to now keep 6 receivers (meaning keeping only 4 TE’s/H-backs on the active roster), the fact that Lennie Freidman is used as a TE in jumbo packages and a solid outing in the final preseason game against the Ravens puts the experienced Brian Kozlowski onto the final roster ahead of Robert Johnson. Johnson is still eligible for the practice squad – and will get a spot there - which is also a key consideration in this decision.

Lennie Freidman OL Mark Wilson OL

With Wilson struggling and missing time due to injury suffered in the preseason opener, and Freidman being viewed as both inside insurance at G and as a blocking TE in jumbo packages, Freidman is no longer competing with Raymer for the backup spot at C. Molinaro backs up LOT, Brown/Molinaro backs up ROT.

Andy Groom P
Chris Mohr P

This is close – very close to call. With Tupa on Injured Reserve, the smart money would be on the experienced Mohr to win the job. However, I think it’s about time we picked a punter with real talent and Andy Groom has that. He can hold for kicks – he was fine holding on the pressure kick at the end of regulation in the Ravens game - so that should not be a problem.

Omar Stoutmire S
Garnell Wilds CB
Ade Jimoh’s ST’s play has him now slotted in at the 4th CB position, which means that Garnll Wilds and Rufus Brown are in competition with a safety for the last DB spot. Given the recent injuries to Bowen and Clark, and the fact that Stoutmire plays FS, will now settle this battle. We can’t afford to be down to two fit safeties so the experienced Stoutmire grabs the last DB spot. Wilds and Brown are still eligible for the practice squad which is also a key consideration in this decision.

Nic Clemons DE
Ron Warner DE

Ryan Boschetti has virtually played his way onto the roster, and its now DE Ron Warner who’s spot is in the firing line. Warner has done little in preseason and has hardly done much to get noticed in camp. Clemons on the other hand has impressed the coaching staff and will win the job.

THE PRACTICE SQUAD
Here’s my final 8 man practice squad prediction, assuming the 53 man roster I posted above is the final one and initial cut players are still available…..

1. LB Zach Kearsey

2. DT Aki Jones

3. OL Mark Wilson

4. DE Charles Howard

5. LB Jared Newberry

6. CB Rufus Brown

7. TE Robert Johnson

8. CB Garnell Wilds

Those are the most notable cuts.

Antonio Brown made it, and Both Rock and Nemo too.
