Saw yet another accident on the highway today where the driver had one of those earpieces for the cell phone, but still managed to take out four sheets of guardrail. Here's what I'm wondering...does it help that you have both hands free, or is the conversation itself the real problem in these types of incidents ?

I think some people just can't focus on multiple things at once. For those people, it doesn't matter what type of device they have, if they can't pay attention to the road and have a conversation at the same time, they should: 1) Not talk on a cell phone in the car while driving, or 2) Not drive while talking on a cell phone.

Personally, I always thought it was the 'dialing' of the phone number that could get people in trouble...you take your eyes off the road for two seconds to look down at your phone and find those small ass buttons, and before you know it, everyone in fromt of you is slammin on their brakes...

But definately - there are too many people out there that should not drive & talk - so don't drive, or don't talk; period.

I think it's the cell phone. I've been nearly run over a few times, back in my old suburban town, by people who had their eyes off in another direction. It's like they imagine their conversation partner somewhere elese, and look that way.

I think people should be given a ticket -- a moving violation for failure to give full time and attention -- if they use a cell phone in a car.

Definately the conversation. Any idiot can drive with one hand, I mean it makes no freaken difference, especially on the Freeway where you only go straight.

The conversation messes with your concentration (but only for an idiot) and you lose focus and forget your going like 70 in a 2 ton car. However, the driver's got to be pretty stupid too.

tough to say. some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time. i personally spend about 4-6 hours a day in my truck at work, and 99% of that time, i'm probably on the phone. i've been doing the same thing everyday for about 8 years, and so far so good. [knock on wood]

i think its the person.... so neither, idiot shouldn't be driving.
