The Superbowl was today and..................

Post by NikiH »

I am sooooo very nervous. I mean like throwing up nervous. Today is Jackson's first football game. The Eagles versus the Raiders. I know he'll do well, he's so great at football and loves the game so much. I have been struggling all morning with my range of emotions. I've not let on one bit to him though. I will report back this evening with all the details. Jackson will likely have the largest cheering section there, as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, great grandparents, and cousins will all be there. And of course the loudest and proudest two of all his dad and I! So I cannot believe I'm gonna say this but GO EAGLES!!!

(And give me strength to keep off of the field should he get hurt and to not hold ill will towards the first kid who makes him cry!)

Eagles vs. Raiders? Isn't DEHog, Jr. a little old to be playing Jackson? :)

Tell Jackson that all of us at THN wish him good luck.

Niki, don't try to be a mommy (I know.. it's VERY hard) today if he gets hurt or anything like that. Be a cheerleader and a big supporter.

(Trust me, I would know. That's how Jackson would want it.)

We are back and I'm exhausted but not as exhausted as he and his dad are. lol They are both passed out. Jackson and the first year kids did good, especially seeing as the opposing team only had one first year kid to our 5 I think. They were all bigger then Jackson's team and the other mom's and I were quite worried about that. Once they started the game I was even more worried because the opposing teams coach was a jerk. He actually was hollering in an abbrasive way each time one of the kids screwed up. He fought with our coach about what down it was, and worst of all, there is a league rule that no one kid plays the same position every time. He had the same kid being the running back EVERY play until our coach brought it to the Refs attention. He was a horrible poor sport too. On the way out of the game one of our family members heard him tell his son who wanted to go run and play with the other kids that he was going no where and to go get his ass in the car. A few minutes later when we were leaving The coach and his son were walking through the parking lot and the little guy was balling and the dad must have been 10 feet in front of him paying no attention to him. So I just said "You did a great job little Raider!" (their teams was the Raiders) and his dad had the nerve to turn around and give me a dirty look.

This guy is what is wrong with America's youth. They have overbearing parents that make them feel worthless and they end up behaving to live up to that standard. Part of me wants to report this coach to the organization that runs the league but I don't know if I will. As he'd probably just get mad at his child and take it out on him.

The score was a final of 28 Eagles to 18 Raiders. The little guys triumphed. And the funniest part of it all was they were all goofing off and really enjoying themselves and the opposing team was serious and he actually was huddling each down and giving assignments to each kid. Even though there is no blocking on offense and a 4 or 5 year old typically doesn't get that into the game. Our team was fantastic and the past part was they had a blast!!! I actually thanked the coach after the game for being so great to our kids. He's so patient and teaches them instead of hollering or getting mad and today made me so greatful we landed on his team. Next week it's the Steelers!!! Hopefully I won't suffer quite as much seperation anxiety when they have to be across the field from me. To keep the parents seperate the coaches and the players are both on the same side of the field opposite the spectators. For me it was extra tough. I didn't even have Scott to hold my hand through the nervousness. lol

Thanks for the good lucks and I'm sorry if this is all over the place. I'm drained. It was an emotional day for Jackson and for all of us. Oh and Jackson fell asleep saying "I didn't score a touchdown mommy, I tried but I couldn't" He sounded sad. So we have to try to teach him a little more about the team concept. He was the QB on 3 or the 4 touchdowns. When we left the coach actually kept saying you are my QB Jackson. So he did make touchdowns. He just made them happen from somewher else then he expected! ;-)

Sounds like a great time for you guys...except of course for the other coach. Get used to it though...that does NOT go away and it's a darn shame. It only gets worse as they get older and learn the sport a lot better. Glad Jackson has a good coach to start him off.

congratulations guys, great job :-)

about the coaching thing, trust me it def. doesn;t go away...that's hwy im trying to get into coaching basketball so taht there will be a team where the coach doesn't make his kids cry. its sad, but that's the way it is, parents are trying to chase a dream they once had but have lost after the beer belly set in, and so they feel they need to push their kids when they are 2 months old to walk, and by 3 months, that kid better run a 4.4, ya know? hopefully thouh, seeing what i have seen from you and scott thru your posts, you will teach him the right way to be a good sport :-)...if he is interested in basketball, let me know, i'll be more than glad to draft him if you choose to sign him up. PM me for more info. again, congrats!!!
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.

Thank you Amberion!

And curveball buddy you better think again. You cannot be a good football player without loving the game and he doesn't just get that from his daddy. :nana:

skinsfano28 Jackson isn't quite the basketball player. He loves it but he's still rather short to play I think. If he shows interest, we'll definitely let you know.

Brandon looks so big in that picture! Go Raiders!!! I hope they have a great season. I cannot wait until we get to full contact. The rules that go with flag football are still baffling me.

flag football rules are a little silly...i don't know if they have this rule in your league, but when i played, you're not allowed to stiffarm or basically extend your arm in any way that could be "impeding the progress of a defender"...kinda defeats the purpose of YAC right? oh well, im sure jackson and brandon will be beastly at full contact, they're junior hogs!

Actually they have a rule that once they reach a defender they have to cross their arms and use their body to block. That is a very hard thing to teach a 4 or 5 year old. So that's the focus of practice this week because they warned both coaches that next week they'll call it as a penalty. We've already started trying to teach Jackson.

In my experience, the problem is also the coaching. There's only so much information you can expect a kid to absorb.

anyway, I hope you guys have a great season!

No kidding. I have seen it as well in other sports such as soccer and hockey. I have seen abuse thrown at other parents, coaches and refs. I have seen fights as a result. It is truly a disgrace. These years are formative years. Some kids are so put off that they never want to return to competitive sports.

Good coaches are not easy to find sometimes.
