I'm not really disappointed to see him go. I don't personally know DMac, but from what I've read from him, he just doesn't seem to have the football smarts or mebbe just the drive that Joe requires in all his players. He always seemed more like a me type player. He's got great natural ability and hopefully he will end up somewhere where he can flourish and realize his potential.
I never worry about a player leaving us and burning us down the road. If we are good enough it won't matter. I think we are getting good enough.
Good Luck DMac!!!

Our big endzone targets are Moss, Patten,

What's everyone's fascination with big guys anyway? Patriots don't have any and apparently they have been a little successful without them...

I just think it's nice to have a guy down there who you can loft it up to and he can snatch it out of the sky for you. Did McCants do that? I don't know but It would be nice to have a guy be able to do that. Moss had some good leaping ability the other night but height does help in the position and we don't exactly have Tom Brady throwing the football.

Height doesn't mean good leaping ability though. It also doesn't mean a WR can recognize the need to jump or get the timing of the jump right either. Moss showed great recognition and timing skills against Pittsburgh. I think "prototypical" WR bodies are blown way out of proportion. Look at Burress. Heck, look at Westbrook for that matter. We've got all the tools on offense we need. All we need now is for our QB to not lose games for us...
Hopefully Patrick can be that guy

I dont care if this cat was 9 feet tall. He doesn't have the drive or the desire to put forth the effort needed to succeed with this team.
Joe is holding everyone up to the same standards and it would not be fair to let a slacker get playing time over someone who is busting their tail when they both have the same talent level.
McCants had to prove himself to Gibbs, he counted on his Spurrier resume carrying over and it didn't. His "skills" we never proven to Gibbs.
I wish things were different but htis is the right thing.

I think this sucks! But, I'm not surprised. I figured he was done when he played in just two snaps on Friday Night's game. I think Philly will pick him up very quickly. Other than Terrel Owens their wide reciever corps is pretty pathetic. He will be a definate upgrade over whoever they got in there right now. Plus, if TO pulls anymore bullcrud they will have someone to fall back on that has proven himself to make plays.........if he does play.
Even though I don't like this decision I'm not gonna question Coach Gibbs. He obviously saw something that I didn't see.
I wish McCants the best.

That is the most uneducated statement you could make.
I saw an interview where he said that he LOVES playing special teams and it was up to the coaches to put him in on it.
It's not a matter of special teams.
I guess you take what the Staff puts in the training camp reports very lightly because if you've ever read any of them (which I really doubt you have) then you would have realized that his release is probably because of his half-hearted practice habits.

Another "fan favorite" but for no logical reason.
Another uneducated statement. Darnerien helped us beat the Colts in 2002, tied with Coles for the team lead in touchdowns in 2003, and is very active in the community and charity organizations.
He also loves talking to the fans.
You have never given a logical reason as to why he should NOT be a fan favorite.

Jake, why are you even dignifying SkinsDomin8 with responses? He's not worthy of the time and effort... and it won't stop him from hating on everything Redskins while claiming to be some sort of a fan. Surely you realize that by now... surely everyone does.
As for DM... the writing has been on the wall for some time. The Gibbs' regime never really gave him much of a game-time chance to prove himself, and D-Mac struggled to prove his worth on the field in a practice-type environment.
While it may not be surprising that this move came to fruition, it is a shame. As I have said repeatedly, the situaion is only compounded by the fact that the Redskins NEED a receiver in the mold of DM... big, strong, and an intermediate option in the passing game.
I wish Darnerien the best of luck wherever he goes... I just hope he doesn't land in Philly. Something tells me he'd take great pleasure in having two chances every year to show the Redskins that they had made a mistake.
I'll try and arrange an interview with him this week and maybe we can get his true thoughts.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
I have watched DMac since his days here in Dover at Delaware State and after having the chance to watch him as a Redskin (to include up close and personal at mini-camp this year) I can tell you I did not see the same DMac this year, I’ve seen in the past. He didn’t seem to be having fun or putting the effort forward he did in past year. I truly feel this was by design. I think DMac wanted out, and his comments seem to back that up…no hard feeling or harsh words…as if he knew it was coming.
I wish him the best; he handled himself very well during his time here. As a fifth round pick out of tiny Delaware State not only did he make a NFL roster but he proved he could play in this league. I think Philly is the place he’ll land. I’m not worried about him at all, he a very talented young man and will do well in any endeavor he chooses. I just have one request DMac, please continue to be a advocate to bring big time D1 football to Delaware State here in Dover. I like to see you team up with John Taylor and Rod Milstead and do more for your school!!
He might come here to Del State to workout...maybe I can do a face to face?

kind of bummed...not necessarily becauase he is going to get cut, but because he didn't step it up and really strive to make the team (like Rock Cartwright seems to be doing - or at least giving it his all)
Anyway, look for him to land in San Diego w/Schottenheimer....that would be my best guess.

I could see that. Marty brought him to the Skins, and always like to get guys that have played for him before. Plus he would be in the AFC, and not have to face the Skins but once every four years.

I hope that happens. I picked up Drew Brees on my fantasy team and if he had Antonio Gates AND D-Mac to throw the ball to............he could very well get me 30 points a game. At least I hope so.

I liked DM as well and I disappointed that it didn't work out for him here.
What doesn't make sense to me is the contract that he got before last season. I am led to believe that a.) Gibbs just overestimated DM's abilities (based on film study and feedback from the Snyder and Cerrato) before he had a chance to coach him or b.) DM just didn't put forth the effort that he needed to be a contributor on this team. The Skins are starved for a big receiver and the team had made a sizable committment to him, so the spot was DM's for the taking.
Either way, the contract was a big mistake.

This should be an "unwritten rule".. just kidding - i know we should be tolerant but some of these posts are only to get a rise out of us - no one could be that "bad" and be a Skins fan.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

And JGibbs said he'd use D-Mac in SEVERAL packages this year.
What ever happened to that?
I'm going to miss D-Mac. He was a great skin when he was actually playing on the field. Great guy too....signed autographs like every day. We'll miss you....and best of luck with the rest of your career!!

Even though DMac said he had no problem with playing special teams, I think perhaps he just wasn't any good on special teams. That, and his practice habits hurt him. It's too bad he didn't get more playing time. I've always liked that guy but the bottom line is the coaches saw something there that lead them to this decision. Best of luck to DMac (as long as it's not against us
)

I disagree.....I think he is a Redskin fan. He just needs to get himself laid. He hasn't gotten it for a while and he just needs some attention so he makes those posts to get "the rise out of people" and get that attention he wants. I'm sure he'll come around eventually.

He put forth the effort and "then some" last year and where did it get him ? I think there's a lot more to it than any of us know. But I wish him well and I hope he goes somewhere where his talent will be appreciated and utilized and yes..it may just be Philly where he can come back and burn us twice a year.
