Whats up with LaVar??? Discuss his recent media interview

Post by dcsportsfan5 »

He sounds almost high. :-k Energetic LaVar I don't see that anymore. Whats up? Sounds almost depressed. He didn't sound to confident about his condition.

A little winded maybe.
Seemed like he was trying to stay low keyed, and not give them to much "rope"

He's obviously pissed because someone called him washed up... I'm not sure about who that was... he suffered threw a year of injury, his first... and obviously, like he stated, he's not the focal point of the defense anymore...

The guys gone through alot in his crappy past half decade with the team... I think he's basically just feeling this year, he's got to let his play on the field do the talking...

he's still one of my favorites... and I'll bank on him making a return to the probowl this year...

I think mabye your high! no im just playing, but honestly i thought the interview was good. A more contrite, focused lavar. Sounded to me like he was aware of his "freelance" rep. and wants to try to fit in with the team concept. He spoke of "playing the Smartest game" he can. To me that hopefully means playing within the system. And i dont know about others on this board, but i think a guy that admits he's gonna be holding back tears because of the joy of being in front of THE FANS. To me thats real. Say what you want about LA but from all the interviews ive read and seen, he goes out of his way a lot to mention the fans. Ever remember L.Coles mention the fans? Or many other players. to me he sounded focused and aware of the fact our team can be good defensivly without him. I hope LA has a monster season personally.

He's tired. 3 days of full-paded practice. I guess that is enough to make a recovering player tired, right?

Arrington has the look and delivery of someone who has been humbled. The interview was very eerie though. And someone mentioned FOCUSED. If he can play as animalistic and under conrol as that interview was. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

Yeah he's winded. He has not practiced full go all camp. The rest of the D has 3 weeks head start on him. He will hit the season opener in shape and angry. Lets just hope he stays patient and focused.

I stated this last year

96 blows up the middle, forcing plays outsde to 53 or 56 (good lord!). Blitz happy, pass rushing LBs who can also cover.

98 plays short stop to scrape up any trash (I shudder to think if Barrow had been healthy  )

24, 27, & 22 hold down the edges. Hard hitters and good cover CBs

41 & 2thebeast1 roam in serach of prey. There will be more than a few alligator armed WRs out there this year.

LaVar is going to prove he his as good as advertized. My girl is not an NFL fan but even she can tell that LaVar can play at a different speed than most players. Lets hope he gets back to that level and quickly!

I noticed that he seemed a little depressed too. Depressed may be too strong of a word but he didn't seem too upbeat at all and it wasn't just fatigue that I sensed in his tone.

The only time he opened up a bit was when he was talking about playing with himself.

Actually, IMO, he seemed to be in a somewhat pleasant mood. He was smiling during most of the interview..

I'm also looking for a big year from LA! I think you're right on and we are going to see a very motivated WLB hitting some players this year.

I am hoping that Bledsoe will be available as an appetiser in the second game, and on national TV. That should look great on Chris' new HDTV!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Yeah, it's almost as if he read some of the comments made by a few people on this board about him being "overrated".......

I also think he's just downplaying his position right now - just in case he doesn't make the probowl this year - but it seemed to me like that little boy inside of him that loves to play the game is itching to get out and smear some faces on the turf.

A positive thing that I saw from his comments was that he mentioned, "his faithful" - myself included - that he was extremely dedicated to providing the kind of intensity and passion that his supporters have seen in the past.

He's been a favorite of mine since his rookie season, and he will continue to be; no matter what happens this year. I only hope he stuffs some people's thoughts right back into their mouths by proving that he is rated right where he should be - at the top.

I think he's just a little tired but mainly just really annoyed with the media in general.

I also think he feels a little like he's the guy on the outside looking in, he isn't Mr. Redskin any more and he's conceding that a little. He has realized that until he gets back Washington is the guy. He'll play his way back into the Pro Bowl this year.

I think he's frustrated and humbled. Furthermore, I think he's sick of talking and just wants to show people what's up, or at least I hope that's the case.

I don't see anything in that interview that doesn't make me excited personally.

He isn't jumping around like he sometimes does, but he answered all the questions succinctly and even threw in some biting sarcasm to boot. most of all, he spoke of his team and being a part of a whole... good stuff as far as I'm concerned.

I think you have to try and remember that Lavar, and a lot of his teamates, really aren't that fond of the media. And with the crap they write sometimes and their 'unnamed sources', it's hard to blame them. A lot of the players can be quite stand-offish with the media. And the reciprocal is also true... a lot of the media are kind of stand-offish with the players.

But the writers rarely write about the good things that the players do, and eventually that wears on them. At training camp I was fortunate enough to see Lavar do a lot of great things with fans... ham it up, yak it up and sign autographs for everyone that he could find at times. But the media portrays him as having to be dragged over to sign autographs.

As to his mental state... his wife is very pregnant and seeing the two of them together would certainly quell any talk of depression or the like. Lavar was a picture of happiness almost every time I saw him at camp.

There were also several examples of Lavar doing all that you can do for a fan at camp... providing moments for kids and seniors that they won't soon forget. There was one incident where Lavar grabbed the helmet of a young lad who was trying to get his autograph.... he ran up to Chris Samuels who was coming off the field with a very serious look on his face as he often does. Lavar was yelling sstuff at Chris like "Mr. Samuels you're the greatest, Mr. Samuels you're my favorite. Mr. Samuels you're the biggest." Then Chris obviously signed the helmet and Lavar went running back to the kid yelling "I got it, i got it, I got it" ... and then gave the kid his helmet back. Everyone within ear shot was in stitches.

Lavar may get a fair amount of bad press, but I have personally witnessed many things that make him truly a character guy.

My 2 cents
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Thats great stuff to know, thanks for sharing. I wish more press like that would come out on the players. It'd definately warm the fans up to them and open their hearts to eventually open their mouths.

The more I hear about Lavar the more Im backing down on some of my stances with him.

Well we now know BH isn't one of those un-named sources.

Amd I'm sure while Boss was witnessing these things, there was absolutely no press around and had there been this would have come out long ago. [-X

I wonder what kind of interveiw some of us would be if Dr. Z and or Fat Lenny stick a mike in our face. That might be what Lavar may have wanted to do but knew what would happen. Instead he thought before he spoke and only said what was important to answer the question.

He sure seemed focused and talking about the D and not LA. If that carries over to his on field play as expected then he'll be back in pro bowl form in no time. Then the "writers" can dig up this interveiw and say Lavar didn't see it coming.

I thing Lavar will not only come back with a "chip" on his shoulder but He'll come back with a vengence.

I think BH is correct in that for the most part the media/press seem to only be accentuating the story line and the potential "headline" rather than the true side of these athletes. That is probably why I tend to think that most of the things we "hear" have a slant to them. That is unless it comes from our own THN people!

I do not read as much as I used too because the reporting on this site has shown me how biased or "bad" the media stuff is and especially about this team.

Thanks guys!
