The Office

Post by Irn-Bru »

Don't know if anyone has heard of this (British) TV series. . .but I just recently discovered it. (It dates back to 2001, I believe.) It had me nearly rolling on the floor with laughter, in pain at times. It's essentially a documentary-style window into the life of a dozen or so people working in a paper merchant office. If I try to describe it any more I'm just not going to do it any justice.

My girlfriend and I watched straight through the first DVD--about 5 or 6 episodes--and need to go out to Blockbuster to get the second one ASAP.

From what I understand, there is an American show by the same name (with the same concepts), but it is nowhere near as funny.

I was wondering if any people here on THN had heard of it (and if you like it), and was also wondering if any of our UK Skins fans have heard of it / like it.

If you haven't seen it, generally like British comedy, and appreciate the documentary approach to entertainment, then I highly recommend this show.

I've seen the show a few times on BBC-America. It is pretty darn funny. They tried to re-do an american version, but I assumed it would suck, so I never checked it out.

The american version was pretty funny, but obviously just not the same show as the original.

Love this gem of a British Sitcom. If you like dry humor, you will love this show.

I watched the U.S. version, and thought the first episode was hilarious. Subsequent episodes weren't quite as funny. I'm not even sure it's on TV anymore. NBC carried it earlier this year.

I love Coupling, but I could never get into The Office.

COupling was funny, but you have to watch 5 or 6 episodes before you start to get the whole picture of who slept with who.

They don't have the 2nd disc of "The Office" at Blockbuster. . .the odds of me seeing it before leaving town for school (next week(!)) are not good. . .

FFA, why don't you sign up for the free trial of Blockbuster's at-home service when you get to school. You can have all "The Office" DVDs come right to your door...for two whole weeks...without paying.

Just remember to cancel before the trial period ends. :!:

 Well, I don't know, it's just a psychological thing. . .trying to get stuff (in general) done before leaving for school. Also, I'm an impatient person.

I was in Best Buy getting some things for school, and while walking through the aisles I 'just happened' to stumble on The Office -- both seasons in their entirety plus the special that was run a couple of years later. I didn't even hesitate (and I never buy these things).

After 3 marathon viewing sessions I was able to finish the entire thing before driving up to school this past weekend. Job complete. . .

Just this past week, NBC aired four back-to-back episodes of the U.S. version of 'The Office'. I thought each episode was equally hilarious. Now I need to check out the British version.

The American version did get picked up for another season. Last week, they re-ran last season b/c the head of the office is the guy in "The 40 Year Old Virgin" so it was a duel promotion for the movie and show. My wife and I watched it and were cracking up the whole time. It's not as good as the original but still damn funny.
