wouldn't it more closely simulate "real game" pressure if the 1st stringers (of both teams) played at the end of the preseason games instead of the beginning? as it is now, obviously they want to play their best but the game situation is really not very urgent. so they don't get any practice working together under that extreme pressure. wouldn't it benefit them much more to have that experience before the season starts?
wouldn't it be better to evaluate the backups during the beginning of the game, when you don't have to worry as much about the score and can just see how they execute the plays? then let the 1st-Team go in battle it out for the win.
maybe there is a good reason why they don't do this, i don't know. i'd like to hear your thoughts.
"starters" at the end of the game?

Not all teams worry about preseason scores. Most teams just want to see the 1st string execute and thats it. They dont want those guys putting their seasons on the line at ALL during the preseason with risky moves.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!
I can see the logic in your idea. That way when the starters get in they are more motivated to make plays. But I would think that that would make for more injuries. Also, there wouldn't be an option for a coach to leave a starter in one more series to see if he can put something together, since there would be a prescribed time to put you starters in.
I see the idea...not sure it would work.

I think you put the starters in at the beginning of the game, because it is a "clean slate." Both teams start at zero, and the beginning of a game usually sets the tempo for the rest of the game (not always, but most of the time). So, if your starters can set the tempo (i.e. score, defend) against your opponents' starters, you probably have a good idea of what might happen during the beginning of the regular season games.
If you put the starters in at the end, the scores could be so out of whack, that your starters might try to do some crazy things; leaving them open to injury, indecissions, a loss of confidence, etc.
But hey, any given Sunday, right?
