Putting it in perspective

Post by ii7-V7 »

Palmer played the first three series but was just 4-of-11 for 37 yards. He failed to connect with Chad Johnson on two downfield attempts.
On the first play from scrimmage, Palmer was intercepted by Asante Samuel. During the Bengals' next possession, Palmer handed off to Rudi Johnson six times for 40 yards before Warley's miss.

Drew Brees (2-for-5, 27 yards, one interception)

Starter Marc Bulger went 3-for-5 for 38 yards and an interception in the first quarter.

Frerotte was 6-of-14 for 51 yards. Feeley was 6-of-13 for 60 yards with an interception.

Leftwich was 3-of-7 in a little more than a quarter of work. Good thing, too. Had he played any longer, he might have gotten hurt.
Leftwich was sacked four times on 11 pass plays
Boller was 5-of-9 for 57 yards and an interception.

Dilfer, who went 2-of-5 for 16 yards.

Smith's first taste of the NFL was slightly bitter: He went 3-for-9 for 25 yards and got sacked by Warren Sapp while the 49ers failed to get a first down in his first four series in charge of the offense.

Thanks Chad. I don't think people are concerned about Ramsey's stats being bad. I think he just plain looked bad out there and thats what makes people concerned.

I understand that. I didn't see the game, but I've read about his happy feet and deer in the headlight face. Its just the first preseason game. I wanted to show what some of the other starters in the league looked like too.

Ramsey seems to be a rhythm quarterback. What I mean is that it take shim a few games to get started. Look at how he played in the first Giants game, and the Cincinatti game. He looked horrid. Then look at the second Giants game and the Vikings game. He was on fire. I wouldn't judge your performance at your job by your first day back after a long vacation. It take a while to get you bearings. Clearly Ramsey isn't the only one. Look at Palmer, Brees, Leftwich, Bulger, etc.

I did not see the game bit from what I'm hearing the QB issue is still a very big concern for us.

Keeping it perspective though I think 2 things: Joe did a very good job in seeing the potential in Jason (and aren't we glad we have him now?) and we will see Patrick get the opportunity to be our QB (and Joe's coaching and support) but it is very important to have both Mark and Jason "ready" in case that does not work out.

I'm very concerned that Patrick might not have what it takes but I'm also pleased to read that Mark looks "better" (he couldn't be that bad again) and that Jason is showing the potential that Joe knew he had. We need Mark to be a very good back-up QB and to help with Jason.

Still early and hopefully Patrick starts to show the form that we need to be successful.

Now, about that defence!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

You da man Chad! Good post! :)

SkinsJock, I don't think the QB issue is so big right now. I think it just seems like that because so many people on the board are overeacting. Anyway, I'm happy that our backups looked competent out there last night, that's never a bad thing. :)

People critciving him based on preseason just flat out hate Ramsey and will criticize him no matter what.
BUT IN REALITY ITS PRESEASON, IT DOESN'T MATTER. The Falcons sucked last preseason, that didn't result in a horrible season. Eli Manning's great preseason didn'tresult in a great regular season. Shaun King's great rookie preseason didn't result in a great carrer. Its preseason none of it matters unless its open competition. Ramsey is going to start on opening day, so hold judgements until then.

The issue with Ramsey is not correctable, but it does not mean he can not become a good quarterback.

Ramsey is not fluid in the pocket and never will be, he is a coached player not a natural fluid athlete. He has limitations that can be overcome by playing in the right system for him, he would not be successful in most current NFL systems. What he has is a strong arm, he is a bright guy, and he has the courage and tuffness to play the position, but he will never be an elite quarterback in this league.

That being said, I think that is the delima that Joe Gibbs and his staff are up against. They need to find a system that can hide Ramsey's faults and exploit his strengths, I just hope they can find a system and soon. I also want to say I like Ramsey and I really hope he can make this work, but I feel his days are numbered with the Redskins and his replacement is Jason Campbell.

If John Manfreda can hold his jugdement why can't everyone else? This post makes a lot of sense.

They'll never make the playoffs now. I mean come on they lost to the Aints. Brady should be traded and BB should be fired.

Whoa! Who are you going to get? Brady? - he's done! Flutie? - he's over 40! Rohan Davey and Matt Cassell are the future! They don't have anyone we need! Mark is going to be our starter according to some here.

We don't need any interception prone, over 40 QB for our starter. We've got 'em right where we want 'em! Everybody's guessing which inept QB we will use this season.

I'm looking for even more deception tonight. Patrick will start on opening day and Joe will have the offense "in gear".

And because we cannot afford to part, YET!

I do not think he will be on the field this year (when it counts) unless he makes Gibbs and co convinced that he can be effective with the scheme we use. I do not believe that they will take that chance again.
