What I expect vs. Carolina

Post by SKINZ_DOMIN8 »

The following are expectations for this first pre-season game:

1. Very good protection via the offensive line for our qb's. This is arguably THE BEST defensive line in the league (Carolina's) and the Redskins' O-line needs to prove they can hold their own.

2. Consistent passing--TO OUR WIDE RECEIVERS NOT OUR RUNNING BACKS. I expect a couple of deep balls thrown NOT Dinks and Dunks to whomever is in the backfield. This has proven not to work.

3. Decent Pass rush from our Defensive Line (although this one might be a huge question unfortunately)

4. Our secondary must prove that it can play well despite the injuries.

If any of these expectations are not met, I certainly will be very disappointed.

Hail.

You said you will be very dissapointed? ok. These two comments contradict each other. How can the best d-line in the NFL have a questionable question mark. We don't have a good pass rush, its decent at best.

You're setting yourself up for failure.

No, I mean't Carolina's Defensive Line. I will edit it.

Ah! I got you now.

I can agree with that.

2. Consistent passing--TO OUR WIDE RECEIVERS NOT OUR RUNNING BACKS. I expect a couple of deep balls thrown NOT Dinks and Dunks to whomever is in the backfield. This has proven not to work.

Im not sure what to expect. I want to see a majority of our passes completed but Im not sold on our deep ball. I dont think we have that timing yet and to think we'd have the Colts offense this early in our development would be stupid.

3. Decent Pass rush from our Defensive Line (although this one might be a huge question unfortunately)

We're missing key people, I dont think we'll see much of this. We're missing the star corners who kept the heat off of our mediocre line. I dont know if Sean is starting or not... It'll be interesting. These guys stepped up last year, they may shock us.

4. Our secondary must prove that it can play well despite the injuries.

This is the biggest :?:

I'll settle for good pass protection being the 1st pre-season game, but more important I hope look good as a unit and feel comfortable with what they are doing. I also hope there isn't much "drop off" wants the starters leave the field

SKINZ_DOMIN8 wrote:2. Consistent passing--TO OUR WIDE RECEIVERS NOT OUR RUNNING BACKS. I expect a couple of deep balls thrown NOT Dinks and Dunks to whomever is in the backfield. This has proven not to work..

Consistant deep passes is not what we need. We only need the threat of the deep ball. Simply taking shots downfield all day won't get us where we want to go. If we can connect on a few early the threat will be there, meaning we can check out some of that zone blocking

SKINZ_DOMIN8 wrote:3. Decent Pass rush from our Defensive Line (although this one might be a huge question unfortunately).

We didn't do much in the offseason to upgrade this spot so I'll be interested mostly in how Phillip Daniels does and the staus of Griffin. Rumor has it that LA, Rodgers and Noble will be practicing next week, so I'll focus more on the D then

SKINZ_DOMIN8 wrote:4. Our secondary must prove that it can play well despite the injuries.

We lost Smoot in the off-season but drafted or signed a number of free agents for the secondary. I'm not worried about them yet. When we start talking about Ade as a starter then we should panic

if there is one thing i could ask for on each side of the ball, it would be that ramsey complete at least one reception for 20+ yards, the D continues the aggressive attack! straight up!

I don't know what to expect in terms of details because I know they're not going to show much.

What I DO expect is a grasp of the simple things -- O-line maintaining their blocks, RBs recognizing and picking up the blitz, defensive players who wrap and tackle and just don't pop somebody as hard as they can and HOPE they fall down.

And ... oh yeah ... NO FUMBLING.

How Much are each of the quarterbacks going to play?

Why should Brunell even be allowed to play?

Shouldn't they worry about Campbell pulling a Rex Grossman on us or for that matter Ramsey pulling a Rex?

I want ramsey to play the whole first quarter and half of the second quarter. I know this sounds crazy but he needs his reps and his confidence. The kid is tough. He isnt good enough like a farve or peyton manning to take a few snaps and sit out and still come out week one and light it up. I want him to play with everyone on our offense and feel for certain guys. This is going to be a good learning experience for him because im sure carolina will use a lot of different looks

listen, first preseason game or not if the skins fail to at least move the ball... i'll be messing my shorts... the offense needs to show some type of game speed capability... if that makes sense.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

It would be nice to see the offense moving the ball, but even if they don't, it's the preseason. Gibbs will not show much, and they still need a whole lot more reps together. Brand new receivers and a new OLine will take some time...Not to mention, the changes in the offense and the introduction of more plays into the playbook. It's simply gonna take more time than a week or two...

What I expect is a very vanilla offensive gameplan similar to last year's preseason.

that's the excuse every year when the skins look horrible in the preseason and it always translates into a continuation into the regular season. vanilla or not the skins need to at least make the "vanilla" things work.

I'm looking for #1, NO INJURIES!! #2 is offensive rhythm, they don't even have to score a bunch but just put some plays together and have some decent drives. Gibbs has already stated that Ramsey will not play much tonight.

I'm not making an excuse.

By the way, check Gibbs' preseason records during his Super Bowl seasons. Not too good. Preseason records don't mean squat when it comes to the regular season.

Pre-season records mean nothing.

If someone told me that we'd lose 28-10 and no one would get hurt I would have taken that in a second. I'd glady go 0-4 in the pre-season if it meant that everyone would be healthy for the Bears game. Gibbs keeps his playcalling "vanilla" because he doesn't care if we win the pre-season games either. He wants to keep everything guarded from opposing scouts.

In last year's opener we beat Denver but lost Jon Jansen for the season.

In this year's opener we lost but we kept everyone healthy.

If we can't execute this vanilla offense...., what are we going to do with the complex one? Ramsey looked like a little sissy out there.

To a certain extent I'm tired of thinking about the Super Bowl trophies we won over a decade ago. I want a new one to be proud of, and kind of agree with cvillehog. This being said, I don't think it is necessary to unveil it for the first few preseason games.
