I would prefer this site stay "underground"...and attract a good group of thorough, informed and friendly Redskins Fans...

It's kind of like when you love a band...like really, really like them. And then they hit it big and a bunch of newbie fans jump on the bandwagon...but you were one of the "original" fans...well, it kind of takes the fun out. For example, growing up in Virginia, the Dave Matthews Band had a huge regional following in the early 90's...but no one else had ever heard of them. Next thing you know, DMB is all over the place and fans in places like god forsaken Arkansas were trying to claim to be DMB fans...it just takes the fun out of it somehow.

and then they start "WHOOOOOOOO"-ing during Warehouse at the shows... and you turn from this Dancing Nancie into a potential Serial Killer... but that's a whole nother story...

Congrats to ES...

Not by the ES staff ... just by the members, let me clarify that... and like I said... people are going to be loyal to where they hang and sometimes project that into venom towards other Skins sites.

I see we have some DMB fans, cool. I don't go back to the old days in VA, but I can bet those were some great times.

I've been to about 20 shows in all, I always try to see them whenever they're in my area.

Well, it's not like the other sites aren't the subject of trash talk here at theHogs.net. Whenever a thread like this comes up people talk about the disorganization, chaos, etc. of ES. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a reputation on ES for some other set of vices. Like Boss said, you're loyal to the people that you hang out with.

Truth is, the way we're looking at this new arrangement is that ALL Redskins fans are about to get a chance to get closer to the team they love. ES is teaming with the Redskins in order to get closer to the inside access/information/perspective that as fans I KNOW we've all craved all along. That holds true for us personally as fans, as well as, I would hope, for Skins fans in general.

I hope people here and on our other brother sites will find that it's okay to remain loyal to their "home" boards and communities, while ALSO allowing themselves to take part in and enjoy the trip into uncharted waters we're about to take as RESKINS FANS with this new arrangement.

Hail to us all.

I say, if this is what ES and Redskins.com want, good for them. How can it hurt to have fans being more connected if that's how they feel? What's to stop us to continue doing our thing?

In my opinion, it's nobody's "loss," as I haven't lost a bit of what makes THN special for me. We've got a ton of users who are simply 'lurkers.' They come here because THN provides links to every last news article with any relevance to the Skins. They can also get exclusive, well-written articles done by our staff. And, of course, all the commentary anyone could ask for on our message boards.

Additionally, I know for a fact that the Staff aren't running this website so that they can get special recognition by the Danny. (And I'm not saying that's what ES is doing, by the by). We're all here for one reason, and as far as I can tell nothing about what we are here for has changed. Hail, baby.

Actually, I really don't compare the sites. If you want to go to a site that has a ton of people on its message boards registered and, in my opinion - concurring with prior posts - a lack of respect for your views until you reach 5,000+ posts, you go to ES. I also go for the cartoons.

If you want to go to a site that is more close-knit, cozy and more fan friendly and welcoming, you come here.

Apples and Oranges, people. Apples and Oranges.

Congrats to ES for being teamed up with Redskins.com, though. It's quite the accomplishment. I honestly think that Redskins.com would have been better served by, say, picking THN over ES; however, I understand their decision due to the apparent large numbers of users on that site.

I hope that The Danny is pitching in on server space and bandwidth that ES will rack up now...

I just don't want to have to go look at a site that -- quite honestly -- hurts my eyes, just so I can get redskins news. However, I do know that the staff here will continue to do an outstanding job covering the Redskins, so I'm not really worried.

Redskins.com to Add Forum, Chat Features For Increased Fan Interaction

August 10, 2005

Team Acquires Extremeskins.com,
web's most popular Redskins fan site

The Washington Redskins today announced a strategic alliance with Extremeskins.com, the Internet's most popular and populated team-specific Redskins fan site, resulting in the fans' closest possible connection with the team.

The addition of message boards and fan chats with team players, coaches and officials adds another powerful element to Redskins.com's ever-expanding slate of video team reports, audio and video press conference coverage, news articles and team features.

As a result of the partnership, the Extremeskins.com owners and their corps of moderators will become the exclusive Redskins.com message board and chat site under the banner Extremeskins at Redskins.com. Interactive chats are tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6, with Owner Daniel M. Snyder, followed by a chat with Head Coach Joe Gibbs on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Players will be added to the mix the next week, beginning with quarterback Patrick Ramsey on Monday, Sept. 12. The message board is scheduled to launch soon.

"As we began our re-design of Redskins.com early this year, we wanted to incorporate the message boards and chats so popular with fans," said Larry Michael, Redskins senior vice president. "As we examined existing sites, we quickly discovered Extremeskins. With its 35,000 members and the years of experience accumulated by the operators, we quickly wondered whether we could incorporate it, rather than build our own."

Founded in 2000 by Tony DiMarco and currently owned by DiMarco, Eric Leichter and Mark Steven, Extremeskins.com's popularity with fans is in large part due to the dedication of its moderators, as well as the distinct personality they bring to the site.

The alliance with Redskins.com allows the owners, all of whom have other full-time jobs, to concentrate on the dream they had when founding the site: Provide the best fan experience possible, with the most up-to-date information possible about the Washington Redskins.

Extremeskins at Redskins.com will live within the team site, and the team will assume all technical responsibilities, with the moderators continuing their existing roles. Representatives of Extremeskins at Redskins.com will join the team at all games, providing an exclusive fan view from the pressbox and sidelines. Extremeskins will also have the ability to attend all practices and team activities.

"We have no interest in changing or reining in the moderators," Michael said. "They are what made the site so popular. They are what attracted us to the site in the first place."

The team expects to begin integrating the Extremeskins.com content and membership within the next week, with Extremeskins at Redskins.com to begin seamless operation from its new address shortly thereafter. Fans may register to participate in team message boards and chats as soon as the integration is complete. Existing Extremeskins.com members will be automatically registered at the Extremeskins at Redskins.com address.

The Skins now OWN extremeskins.

Redskins unfiltered at it's best.

Kinda like the White House owning a major media outlet, how unfiltered can it really be?

Should be interesting to see how things play out.

Best of luck to them.

Greetings from NYC: At least it will not hurt our salary cap when Danny cuts the extreme skins and signs a Pro Bowl site to replace them next year.

I'm sure the owners of ES made out well on the deal and the mods scored some nice benefits but to the average poster this isn't a good thing.

One of the great things about a football message board is the ability to dissent or even sometimes vent frustrations over your team's performance. With Snyder's almost infamous proclivity towards "yes men", how long before any negative comments about the Redskins will be strictly verboten?

Will the PC police soon follow? I doubt the Redskins' organization would like to be linked to things such as the "shaving" thread here. I also wonder what effect it will have on Bang's brilliant work. Funny by some guy on the internet, not so funny with a de facto endorsemnt by a team. There also must be some concerns about copyright infringement in regards to avatars and sigs.

With Art leading the Charge of the Gestapo Brigade, I just wonder how long it will be safe to type the words "I don't believe".

In closing, while having the access to staff and players can seem to be a boon to a message board, I've never seen an "officially sanctioned" board in any sport that was worth a plug nickel.

But I'm not about to start apologizing for the way this community feels about it. There have been many a harsh word said about this site at ES... I don't take it personally. Neither should you. People are going to be loyal to the people they hang with most.

My 2 cents

I'd just like to say that having been an ES member for over a year now I haven't seen one bad thing written about this site. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, but I visit the site regularly and have never seen it. I've seen several THN members post, and they are treated like any other skins fan; nothing negative said about their site.

Conversely, the very first thread I've read on this site has tons of negative things to say about ES. The thread is about ES, so maybe that's not exactly fair, but it seems a mite unprovoked to me. Redskins fans are the best in the world and should be united by our desire to see the B&G kickin' ass and takin' names.

Can't we all just get along?

Hail.

rockster,
If you are talking about this thread, then I would say it was very much provoked by the announcement on Redskins.com.
