Worried

Post by patjam77 »

Sorry guys, I know I am the resident pessamist of this board but I have that sinking feeling in my gut about the offense. I know, I know, it's WAY too early but doesn't anyone else have that same feeling?? I mean I want to be wrong in the worst way but after reading all the reports and even BossHogs' own accounts shouldnt this ofense show a little more crispness than it has? I'm 28 so I have been through enough training camps to realize the signs... If you have the same feeling, plese let me know and if you don't well... tell me i'm bein crazy and swear to me everything will be OK... haha

Colin Powell said "Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier", and that has always made since to me. When I'm not being optimistic about the Skins I'm talking about something else

The Defense is ahead of the offense because there wasn't that much change on that side of the ball.
Most of the defensive players rotated most of the season, so naturally they would gel first.

The O on the other hand needs more time... it's always something new personel, change of scheme, Position coach changes, or offseason holdouts. This offseason we've had some of it all on offense.
The PRACTICE against B-more has scared some people, but it was only a organized practice between two teams a week after vacation.

If your not buying any of that, try this one ....

It was a scrimage that cost $12 to get into - do you know how many scouts were in the stands, The Skins couldn't really show what we have been working on ROTFALMAO

When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hold on....

If you read the recent quote from Gibbs on skins.com he admitted that he's holding his cards close to his chest.

Dont let what I, Boss or anyone else said about the scrimmage worry you. We just called it like we saw it, if Ramsey threw an INT thats what it was but we're still optimistic. We saw a lot of good and some bad. They've only been in camp for one week.

Remeber that we have a lot of new guys on the offense. We have had a few overthrown balls and thats just due to timing. Ramsey and the WR's need some time to become cohesive.

Plus the Skin's didn't really run the ball. I don't remember Portis touching the ball. The Skin's offense will be better than last year.

... and this is definitely the most important factor... a running offense that isn't running the ball should not be judged too heavily.

My 2 cents
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

OK OK... come saturday against carolina... i dont need to see TD's bbut i need to see some kind of ball movement with the first team in there... something that would resemble a sustained drive would be nice.

Not even I will put a whole lot of credit into the "DEFCON 5" doom-and-gloom reports that came out of the scrimmage ("Ramsey was awful," "the blocking stunk," etc.)

I won't be going to camp (no desire at all) but will be looking for grasp of the basics this Saturday night vs. Carolina -- keeping the QB clean, some sense of timing with the WRs, pushing the DL back on running plays, fundamental tackling skills on defense.

Thank you, someone else noticed this. Running the ball is a big part of the offense for us and we didnt run it, so we werent going full strength or even half strength. This Saturday will give us a better idea of the offense.

Practice makes Perfect. If we do not look good in practice then what makes you think we are going to look good in a game. I was reading some ESPN reports from around the league last year and they were taking about Bret Farve's practices they said " he did not have one ball hit the ground the entire pracice, and that was not unusual for him". We need that kind of production in our practices. I know it is early and we have several new players, but we need to see consistancy in order to start generating a positive attitude for the players and the fans.

Expecting these guys to be practicing like Brett at this stage with a new scheme and new players is a bit of a stretch! I think that we are all a little "nervous" because of the huge letdown last year but lets face it we were in a lot worse shape than we knew and Joe is getting back "in gear".

I would echo what has been alluded to in that I'm sure a lot of teams want to try and "learn" what if anything Joe is going to do with the offense and until he can get to a "secure" practice site we are not going to "see" too much.

I am convinced the line will be better and I believe the scheme will suit the players better. Now we do not know if Patrick will be up to the level we all expect BUT that is what it's all about. You have what you have and hopefully Joe will pull it all together.

We are very lucky IMO that we have this guy making the decisions for us again - and he has control. I think we have no choice but to look on the bright side and let it happen.

The train is leaving soon and I know that patjam is going to on it with me, playing the "devil's advocate" till the whistle blows!

all aboooooord!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

running the ball is what gave the skins fits last year... yes portis still got 1300 yards, but where were the sustained drives that are clearly helped by a good running game... i know some of you say that he didnt toucht he ball in scrimmage but remember last year even the first preseason game against the broncos the skins looked inept and i continued into the regular season... honestly the preseason will tell all... if the first team comes out andks good then we can assume they will be fine.. if it is like last year... watch out... i'll be crying the blues.

I'm with you but I'm worried that this smashmouth, root-em-out, down-your-throat running game that Portis says the Redskins are NOT best suited to run.

I want to see what works best. Just don't want to wind up not having that clock-killing running game option should it be time to ice a game.

The worst part of the off-season is the pre-season. Pre-season games mean almost nothing. Remember the pre-season games with SS as the coach. I bet this site was ecstatic over SS’s first game in Japan. Was that game valuable in determining how the Skins would do? What about last year? One of the final pre-season games was against Atlanta. Our first team crushed the Falcons. Our defense blew them up. Based on that game I figured Atlanta with a new coach and a new system was going to be one of the sorriest teams in the NFL. Guess what? They went to the playoffs, we didn’t. It was fun to watch but it didn’t mean anything. Don’t get to high or low just because of pre-season games.
Pre-season wins and loses are not good predictors of how a team will do.
Go Skins!!!
I was reading in the paper today about this dwarf that got pick pocketed. How could anyone stoop so low?

Your right, Gibbs doesn't show much in the pre-season. Just watch for the basic's. If the Skin's are blocking and tackling well. Then it was a good pre-season game.

I really don't know, the Skins have under-performed for God knows how long and Gibb's system doesnt seem good for Portis or just over all with the personnel we have. Ramsey is not a Playoff QB, from what he has shown in his pro-career, granted SS tried to kill him.

I can only believe, when I see it. No hype for me this season, but still loyal. Been hurt too many times for over a decade now. Lets Go 06' Skins, please don't sink it up, Please.
Go 06' Skins, Wildcard birth & please avg. more than 15 ppg.

I see this preseason as a chance to see the "role" guys do their thing and get our special teams in order.

The scrimmage supported my worse fears about our OL and receivers. Somebody tell me I'm wrong.

Why tell someone they're wrong when they're willing to base it on such a meaningless game.

Gibbs had a 1-3 and an 0-4 preseason in two of the Super Bowl years, we didn't look too good then either.

Vanilla playbook, generic playcalling... I'd have thought a senior Redskins fan would know what or what little to expect before the actual season starts.

the reason u shouldnt be worried is that its a scrimmage. yes it would be nice to win those meaningless games, but Gibbs is basically not using any of his plays.

Thanks for telling me I'm wrong about our receivers, Boss. I feel better. I'd feel even better if you hadn't predicted great things for Hamster QB in O3.
I'll go out on a limb, just as you did then. I predict we get journeyman numbers from our WR's this year.

I wasn't very impressed with our pass rush, it seemed like Delhomme has all the time in the world. Granted, most of our starters didn't play. I hope we get a better look at the defense next week to get an idea on the rush. I don't want Shawn Springs leading the team in sacks again.

Also, the return game was weak. I didn't see many lanes and Brown was getting tackled within seconds of fielding the kick.

2 things I'll be looking at next week.
