I think a washed up Brunell starting for us at QB again this year would be a disaster. Even if he plays better than Ramsey in the preseason. Heck, he played better in the preseason last year than Ramsey. Do you guys remember how terrible our offense was last year, especially when Brunell was in? It was pathetic and humiliating. I can honestly hope he plays like crap, gets cut, and never plays for the skins again.

Sad that you actually want Brunell to do BAD. Especially since he is most likely going to see action at some point.

Couldn't have put it better myself!

I also agree with the point made about we are all in this together and it really does not matter to (most of us!) who is starting at what position as long as the coaches think (NOT any of us!) that person gives us the best chance to be as good as we can be, then so be it!

I hope that Mark, Jason and Patrick (in alphabetical order) all have great years for our team this year in whatever capacity Joe sees fit.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

I want him to do badly in the preseason so that Gibbs doesn't even think about putting him in there when the games actually count.

Wouldn't Jason come before Mark in alphabetical order.

He was going by last names! ;-) Then that would actually be alphabetic order. I was hoping Brunnell would be third string so it wouldn't even be an issue but I trust the coaching stuff enough to know they'll put in the person who will most likely get the job done.

So, let me get this straight? You'd like to see him do bad in pre-season games so that Gibbs doesn't use him in the games that count. Well, what happens if Patrick Ramsey has to come out of a regular season game because of an injury? Do you still want to see Brunell do 'bad'? Damn, some "Team Player" you are!!

Me, I think it might be more appropriate to have the attitude that no matter HOW good Brunell does, I'd like to see Ramsey do better! Wanting Brunell to play bad so Gibbs uses Ramsey is akin to showing a lack of confidence in Patrick Ramsey, or perhaps a bit of uncertainty. Brunell, I hope, does as good as he's ever done before. That'll make Ramsey HAVE to do even better. And, I'd prefer it if Ramsey gets the job because he's better, not because he's not 'as bad". That's a no-brainer!!

Thanks Niki & JP! I think that we should all be hoping that the players are able to show the coaches why they should be part of our roster this year and accordingly I hope that the skill level is what they will build on as the season goes on. Totally agree with both Niki & JP's (and a lot of others here) point that at this stage the coaches are trying to decide who stays and who goes and we should be hoping that we can keep the best players available.

It gets a little complicated with the cap issues and we are forced to keep some players that have shown they do not deserve to be here BUT we should be hoping for the best for everybody because that can only ensure we have a better team.

A "better" Mark is a benefit for both Patrick and Jason. Mark in good form only ensures that Patrick will have to play to the best level possible and that in turn IMO keeps him sharp. I think that Mark will be a positive for Jason also in that he is a veteran NFL QB and can help prepare him for his future with our team.

5 for 8 and a touchdown, not bad for a scrimmage a game

THE RAM IS OUR QB and that´s it, he´ll be the starter come september 11.

I don't know what to say about Brunell, Ramsey, or our offense period.. I'm just tired of friggin' inconsistency.. Come on Ramsey lets get it goin.. Brunell is gonna be a pretty decent back-up no matter what, but Ramsey gonna have to show somethin' this year or i bet he's gonna go bye-bye..

We all need to give Patrick and the receivers time to get their timing down and get ready to play on 9/11. We do not need to expect too much this early, we have only had 1 week of camp! There are 34 days to go before the season begins and we need to give them some time.

Patience people, these coaches and these players will be there for us this year.

Damn, some "Team Player" you are!!

Last time I checked I wasn't on the team...

I think Brunell doing well in the preseason would only give the coaches a false sense of his abilities. It is my belief after watching him last year and early on in training camp that he is completely washed up. If he is our starting QB for any lengthy period of time we have zero chance of making the playoffs no matter how good Portis or the defense are because he kills drives. I have to ask you again, did you watch the games last year?

Stats to back up my position, since obviously you didn't see the same thing I did last year:

Games Brunell broke 200 yds passing: 2/9
Games Brunell broke 100 yds passing: 4/9
Games Brunell had 2 TD passes: 2/9
Games Brunell had 1 TD pass: 5/9
Passer rating: 63.9
Completion %: 49.8
Record: 3-6

Those stats are pretty conclusive that Brunell sucks. He had a tough time getting 100 yards passing last year, doing it in less than half of the games in which he started. His completion percentage was less than 50% and its not like we were going down field a lot last year. Those numbers are darn right pitiful, JP.

Oh yeah, one more thing, we couldn't break 20 points with him there in the 9 weeks he started. Against Cleveland and Cincinnati we could not muster 20 points in either contest. Please admit that you don't want him starting any games for us either this season. I don't think it is anti-redskins to do so, if anything it is pro-redskins. I want to see them succeed and therefore I don't want to see Brunell to get any starts.

I have more faith in Joe and the offensive coaches than most people.

I prefer to think that last season is not any more an indication of how good or bad Brunell is than Bill B.'s performance as a coach at Cleveland meant that he was as bad a coach as he looked before he became the coach at NE.

IMO a "good" Brunell is better for the Redskins than a "bad" Brunell. Yes he has to be here for another year but it is better for us IMO if he is a lot better than he was last year. That's just my opinion.

I would find it very hard to believe that Gibbs is going to let him play if he does not look a lot better than last year. If that is still the case then we are in trouble as we will need to bring in a back-up to Patrick with not much time to get him ready. I do not think that Jason has any chance of being the back-up this year until the season is "lost" or we are very desperate.. Therefore, I think we should be hoping for a big upgrade from Mark on what we saw. This is a lot easier road than some other people are thinking of taking with a "bad" Brunell.

Gibbs is a very good coach and he must feel that as he has got to have Mark here (for 1 more year) he is going to give him the chance to be our back-up and I think that if this works a "good" Brunell is a lot better than the guy we had last year.

I'm hoping that he does not ever start a game again but I would also hope that he can be our back-up QB IF Joe (& the coaches) think he can "handle" it. These guys know what is going on.

How difficult is this for some of our doubting fans to understand?

Not only did I check the stats to each game, but I was AT each game. I'm not quite sure I understand your point of view. You're saying that you want Brunell to do "BAD" in the pre-season, yet you're saying you want the team to succeed? What type of fan wishes that ANY player on their team does "BAD" just so his guy can start? It doesn't matter how Brunell played last year, and it certainly doesn't matter to the coaches what your opinion is of Brunell. What matters is how well they play NOW, not last year, not next year, NOW. I can understand you not having faith in Brunell, but to wish a player on the team that you suppor actually does bad? That's selfish and ludicrous. With all due respect, but let the coaches coach. They have a better eye for talent than anyone on this board has. Ramsey will start, make no mistake about it, but to hope Brunell does bad? Would you want Brunell to do bad if it was 3rd and long, in the 4th quarter of a game that we had to win to get into the playoffs, and Ramsey just got knocked out with a head injury? Would you STILL want Brunell to do bad? Think about it for a minute? Shouldn't you want Ramsey to do good, instead of Ramsey do bad? I hope to hell Ramsey starts, and i'm sure he will. But, when Ramsey loses time cuz of an injury, (keep in mind he's never completed a full 16 game schedule in his career), I'm going to want Brunell to step in and be as good as he can possibly be. I'm certainly not going to want him to do "bad".

I hope Brunnell does good, cause I dont have too much faith in Patrick. Ramsey has been called the QB of the future for 5 years and hasn't shown anything yet. If someone is worried about Patrick losing the starting job possition to Brunnell, is an indication than the guy is not good.

My point is, I hope all the players do good, so we have a good year.

5 years :?
Mark Brunell really can't play any worst than he did last year, so he should be improved/healthy. If we are lucky he and Jason can push Ramsey to the level he needs to be at

I hope Brunnell plays well. I hope he finds the zip and accuracy in his passes.

AND I expect Ramsey to start, and hope he plays better and better.

Why is it better to have the backup QB in a slump? Why isn't it better to have two (or three) capable QB's?

This thread worries me when you also consider the editorial mike wise wrote in the post the other day about brunells desire to still play quarterback in the league. another qb controversy cannot happen! but im confident it wont because sooner or later things must click.

I don't see how this is sad news. It is good news. The better our depth chart the better chance we have to have a better season. I was a supporter for Brunnel when Joe got him. He wouldn't keep him around if he didn't think he could help the team. Yeah he stunk it up last year but before that he was a very good QB. Why does one bad year erase all of that?

This is a joke from an outsiders stand point. You have an arm in Ramsey if he gets the mental capability of realeasing the ball and not knowing were he throws it before the snap he will be a serious threat. Even as a Giant fan I would be worried if such a physcially talented player as Ramsey would gain the mental capacity to think after the snap. Brunell is done bottom line you got to look to the future as the whole manning warner incident. Look to ramsey even if it takes half the season. Hes the future of the redskins. At least until Campbell proves himself.
