Sailor O' the Quarter...

Post by skinz74 »

In lesser news, I made Naval Station Mayport Senior Sailor of the Quarter this past Friday. I'm in the running now for Senior Sailor of the Year. Wish me luck.

If I make it...it'll REALLY help my chances of making Chief Petty Officer sooner rather than later. And once I make Chief, I can take my family to Naples, Italy for a few years.

<<Fingers crossed>>

Sounds real cool, 74 (especially the potential to live in Europe for a few years(!). Congratulations, and good luck on the continuing process (fingers crossed).

Congrats '74. If you get sailor of the year, the marines might let you stand near them at the PX.

My Dad spent 20 years in the Navy. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Navy treated him well...during his career and in retirement. Best of luck to you...and remember.....It's not just a job...IT'S AN ADVENTURE!

Thank-you all for your support...<<Feels like a Bartles and James commercial, doesn't it>> Circumstances like this mean nothing if you don't have friends and loved ones to share it with. My wife is very proud...God only knowes the crap she has to put up with due to my weird hours and duty. That's why this is so important.

If I make SOY, it will really solidify my chances at making Chief...which makes it that much easier to go to Italy. (Going overseas in my job isn't exactly a career enhancer.) Not to mention all this extra work has seriously dampered my posting on TheHogs.Net. I should be celebrating my 2K post by now...

Anyhoo...thanks again and I'll let you know how this works out. BTW, last night my crew landed a C9 that took 2 bird-strikes to the windshield and landed safely. Once on deck, the pilot reported hot brakes, which can cause the tires to explode...which they did. Through all of this, we managed to keep the pilot calm, and no one was injured. The plane was safely disembarked and everyone left safe and relieved. I was very proud of my crew for carrying out procedure and their calm, assuring professionalism. Go Mayport Air Opertations Air Traffic Control Division...!!! :D

O...JansenFan...What are the Marines doing at the Exchange, anyway...??? Shouldn't they be out on the grinder somewhere, practicing D & C...??? I tried to talk to one of them...he just grunted a couple times and I gave up.

Just kidding...as a former Cav Trooper, I have the utmost respect for our sister military units...especially combat arms. That's truly the instance where those guys are underpaid and underappreciated.

Yeah, I had one grandfather in the Marines and one in the Navy, and I actually wanted to be a Navy Pilot for the longest time. My Naval grandfather help on the project that produced the modern blast sheilds on used on aircraft carriers, way back win.

Still, rivalries are only fun if you talk smack. So good luck with CPO, that's the equivalent of a Marine Corps Lance Corporal, right? ;-)

I think you've got it all mixed up...I thought Gunnies were errand boys for CPOs. Yeah, yeah...that's it. That's why CPO's have bigger bellies...they've got someone to do all the work for them.

Gunnies, CPO's there all the same. NCO's make the military move. Anything above that is only there to get people to retirement age without hurting themselves. Good luck on the promotion;-)

editor's note: If I would have stayed in, I'd be 7.5 years from retirement, hopefully a Staff NCO and I probably would have a little different take on things.

Naples, is the easy part. Problem is, if I go without having a strong package (my military history), it could seriously hurt my chances of making Chief.

Naples is considered "easy" duty, and could jeopardize my chances of making CPO early. However, my family has been through alot with previous ships and duty stations...and I would like to reward them with the chance of a lifetime. How many times in life do you have to actually LIVE overseas? I have, but they haven't...and I want my wife and daughter to know how it feels, too.

Love the attitude. You are a great family man. If you were in the Canadian Navy, I could talk to some of my buddies there but being in the US Navy, it is a brickwall to us. Sorry.

Good luck even if luck has nothing to do with tenacity and perseverance. Go Skinz74!
