Ramsey's chances...

Post by Skinsfan55 »

Ramsey has got the best deep arm on the team and he's smart (double majored in college... and not in phys. ed and health either, accounting and finance baby!)

He's struggled with Spurrier's system, and his first year under Gibbs' system... but now may be his year.

If Ramsey has an excellent season this year, what are the chances of him keeping control of the team?

Would he only be increasing his own trade stock? Is Campbell's takeover inevitable?

What do you guys think?

If he has a Drew Brees-like season then I think we should keep him on board for another year to make sure he's not a fluke. If he does awesome next year also then we might as well start looking for somebody to trade Campbell to. Although I really want to see how Campbell does (and I have future pro bowl aspirations for the man), if Ramsey begins performing at a pro bowl level then we definitely should hang on to him.

That Im not soo sure of. Maybe Gibbs wasn't Campbell to sit for 2-3 years before playing, if Ramsey does well. That would be the best thing imo. We dont need to rush Campell.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens in San Diego with Brees and Rivers. If Ramsey has a great season and we have a winning season then I see no reason for us to finally get rid of the QB that got us to a winning season. I think we might be in for something similiar to S.D.

Brees isn't going to have as good a season as last year IMO. I believe that this is in large part because Wade Phillip's defense won't be as good (just a gut feeling). My question to everyone else: Has Ramsey shown us more than Brees showed San Diego prior to last year? I think Ramsey has proven to be a smarter player with higher up-side, but what do you guys think?

I don't think it is complicated. If Ramsey plays well, he continues to start. Minimize interceptions, minimize fumbles, command the team.

Campbell learns and improves, we all hope, then that's great: the Redskins will have two good QB's. Given that players get hurt, given that everyone goes after the QB, what could be bad in having two guys who can start?

While I understand the "comparison" with the situation in San Diego this is completely different in that Jason was not drafted to be the QB in the near term as was the deal in San Diego. He is, IMO, the QB of the future (IF he works out).

We all hope that Patrick shows he is capable (great?) and that Jason can get ready to (a) be the back up next year and (b) that Patrick will be our QB next year! This means that Joe thinks he can get the Redskins in the SB. If not, Joe will find someone to be our QB UNTIL he thinks Jason is ready!!!

I agree with welch - "this is not that complicated!"
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Brees and Ramsey have had had about the same impact, except for last year. I live in LA and see the reports on the Bolts every day. As for Brees not having as good a year this as he did last, I wouldn't say that either. He will have much the same years as last because he will have Rivers breathing down his neck. I hope Ramsey has a great year this year. I would not describe myself as a Ramsey fan but I do have issues with the way he has been treated by the Redskins. I would wonder whether he would stay with the Redskins regardless of the offer when his contract ends. If he has a great year, he has more barganing power as a free agent.

Ramsey was staring down receivers today at camp just like he did last year. IMO, he will not become a great QB without learning how to look the defense off before coming back to his main option.

I also agree.
If Ramsey plays well, he'll continue to be the starter - this year and next. If Ramsey doesn't do so hot then he pretty much will be done as a Redskin.

The fact that Brees had a good year last year has nothing to do with Patrick, however if Ramsey soars and Brees is a flop some will want to see Ramseys follow up to this year before throwing a lot of money at him.

While all of this is Going on Campbell will be soaking up the playbook, learning to read NFL defenses and being groomed by Gibbs.

It would be great if Campbell could be brought along slowly and eased into the role but it's all up to the play of Ramsey

All I'll say is the same thing I always say...I hope that Camp is an open competition, blind to seniority and salary and wide-eyed towards inherent skill and leadership.
If that means Campbell is the man, then I say give him the ball. If that means Brunell is the man, shoot me now.
Just kidding. Give him the ball, too. Just not on Game Day.
Still kidding. There's no way Brunell is the man. Aren't we short a cheerleader now ? There you go. Mise en place, baby.

I must agree with "portis 26".Joe Montana was the first master of this art.No one could look a defense off like Joe and then hit a W.R. in stride fooling the defense. I have watched films on Tom Brady and he is pretty good at this himself.I dont know maybe Ramsey will pick up on that this season.Every q.b. is different. I think ramsey strong point is the middle of the field throwing into double coverage he just seems to thread the ball in there. The right side has been good to him but throwing to the left not so good.I don't know can ramsey pull off things we have not seen before. The season is not far away, we will soon find out.

I think Ramsey will do well, not as well as Brees though. He'll do good enough to keep the offense rolling at times. The Skins will not have a top ten offense either. The Skins offense will be enough to help the team get into the playoffs. The defense will be more recognized than the offense once again.

After this season, Brunell will either be third string or leave the team. Ramsey and Campbell will be the real QBs of the team. (If they aren't already)

I don't know if I'm being biased or not BUT I thought Campbell had better passes during TCamp than Brunell. There were many more applauds going towards JCampbell than Brunell.

Brunell wasn't horrible. He threw one long pass that looked decent. 98% of his passes were short and on the money from what I saw. He was better than Jason for the most part. Thats ONLY because Jason was indecisive and thats part of being a rookie. If we remove that variable than he's clearly the better QB.

I hate to say it but Brunell needs to be #2 for now. If Jason is having trouble making decisions against his own D and no tackling then he need not to be thrown to the wolves on Sunday. I like Jason and he's showing tremendous promise but I want him to be the one who takes us to the top. (or Ramsey) We dont need to rush him along and mess that up.

Yeah I agree with you Chris. Campbell is not ready yet but he definitely has some great potential. The thing I like about him is that he has mobility! (and also that he's black...but we don't have to make that a big issue.)
Once Jason is up to speed with the NFL he's definitely going to be good enough for the back up spot and may be even pressure the starter. That's IF he gets some type of playing time to practice. Hopefully Campbell will be involved in the scrimmage and preseason games for the most part. This is his time to prove to JGibbs that he has the capability to be great!
We just need to give him some time...he's going to be GREAT!

Remember this, if Ramsey does well, there are a lot of teams that wouldn't mind snaging a good young Qb that is a free agent this year. Not only that the Redskins don't have enough money to franchise him, because like Brees he could just sign it and we would be in big trouble (cap wise). So if he has a good year he could just say see you later.

i think campbell is our "new"future but i would love to see ramsey put a strong season together,he has the tools and know how, also the key to ramsey having a strong year will be the changed running game of gibbs and pounding away with PORTIS !!
i hope it does not come to trading ramsey, but you never know.

what really bugs me is the fact that we probably won't have a lot of cap space left to sign him if he blows up, and coincidentally, the pukes might be looking for a young gun starter because bledsoe is getting up there...i dont know, it seems like a remote possibility, but a possibility nonetheless. just throwing it out there
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.

Ramsey's contract runs through the '06 season so he'll be here next year if the Skins want him here.

We won't know what's going to happen in '07 with the cap until a new CBA is done

I would say good riddance. He didn't want to be here in the first place.

the shelf life of a qb performing at his peak is pretty low. Favre, McNair, Elway...those are the exceptions. Generally, you get guys like Warner, Plummer, Griese, Rypien, Schroeder, etc who pop up and give their teams a couple of really good years and sometimes some great ones. What I think we'll see out of Ramsey is just that...some really good years, and maybe even a great one (perhaps next year?)...but then you'll see the ark return to average...and at that point, you'll see Campbell waiting in the wings...just my 2 cents, purely a shot in the dark opinion

we all talk about ramsey having a 'good year' or a 'bad year', but i don't think it's that simple. it'll be more like, 'ramsey had a pretty good year, with some poor games and some lack of focus'. or 'ramsey had an okay year with some flashes of brilliance'. it's never cut and dried.

i think we'll be here next year still debating whether he had a 'good' year or a 'bad' year. i'm doubtful that he'll either be awesome or stink it up.

it'll come down to what joe sees this year, the little things. if he likes what he sees, i think ramsey is signed to an extension, plays a few more years, then moves on, and campbell is primed to take over as his rookie contract expires. if joe does nto like what he sees, ramsey starts next year -- for someone else, and campbell runs teh show here.
