Will Greg Williams be our next Head Coach?

Post by HailtoTheRedskins »

I have been thinking about this since last year, and wanted to get some other folks thoughts about this. Gibbs, and his staff have a great bond including Williams. Does anyone think that after Gibbs is done here, lets say 4 more years and two SB trips (I believe) that Greg will take the job? Greg looks as if hes along for the ride, and could be learning the ropes from Gibbs. Whats does everyone eles think.

PS I am in no way saying Gibbs is going ANYWHERE, I am just wondering if we could see Greg in this spot for the future.
And on the 7th day (Sunday) God made football, and he saw that it was good.

I firmly believe so, but I don't want to think about just yet.

EXACTAMUNDO! or "yeah baby!" and welcome to the site!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that part of the reason Williams came to D.C. in the first place with the promise, either overtly or not, that he would follow Gibbs as the head coach.

Somebody I talked to who played golf with Gregg told me Gregg was offerred the head coaching job in San Fran this offseason. Obviously, he declined the offer. He went on to tell my friend he loved the area and really enjoyed being with the Redskins.

If Greg stays in Washington, yes. Definitely. But I'm not too confident on him staying....he'll stay for a few years...maybe a season or two more...but he may be enticed by a nice contract with another team. (Just like Marvin Lewis)

Gibbs will be here for no more than a few more years, my best is on 3. Thats falls right in line with what you said. If Gregg continues his success do you think anyone would be able to put a better offer on the table. Gregg already stated that he favors the DC area.

I really do hope so. I think his time as HC in Buffalo was a learning experience but having a few years working with Gibbs and Co. will probably help him tremendously. The wonders he worked with our defense is mind blowing and I think he'll be able to become a real good coach in the future.

Greg Williams is our future Hall of Fame coach. Joe will get another Superbowl and then will retire and Greg will take over

Marvin Lewis, Romeo Crennel, Charlie Wies, and now Greg Williams...IF the Skins do reach the SB then in my opinion, he will be the first to leave town to one of those underachieving teams. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, if Gibbs has another bad season he should become the GM and let Greg run the show...we can't loose another good coordinator.

I think Gregg Williams could be the next head coach if the Redskins are sucessful but I'm skeptical of Gregg Williams' coaching credentials. There are few head coaches that resurface after being fired and are sucessful again (Bellicheck being one of them) but then there are others like Norv Turner, Dennis Erickson, and Ray Rhodes. Maybe Williams is destined to be just a really good defensive coordinator but I hope the best for him since he has probably earned a head coaching job in the NFL.

I think that's why he is tutoring under Gibbs. He wants to learn to be an effective head coach from the master. That way he doesn't turn into another Norv Turner.

I agree JSPB22. I'm thinking that GW is learning from Gibbs. Moreover, I think that when Gibbs finally does retire again, the team will be structured well and left in a good spot personell -wise. GW will only have to make sure that he brings in good help for the offense, as Gibbs' guys (Bugle, etc.) will most likely leave when Gibbs does.

Welcome to the board HailtoTheRedskins and Diesel.

There is no better teacher than Joe Gibbs. GW is blessed to have him as a teacher. It is good to have DEPTH at all positions, including head coach.

Joe Gibbs will fulfill his obligations under his contract. After that, I do not know and he may even not know himself.

If the Skins D finishes in the top 5 this year, he will more than likely get an offer from another team, which he may or may not accept. That being said, I hope he sticks around for a while and takes over when Gibbs leaves, it would be nice to see some stability

I may just be loopy but didn't he get approached by other teams this off season and state he had absolutely no interest in leaving? I think at least as long as Joe Gibbs is here, Williams will be here. And maybe even longer.

Buges

Post by Gibbs4Life »

I was hoping after Gibbs we'd hire Buges. Still Williams is a great candidate. Let's see another dominant Defense this year! As for learning from Gibbs I'm sure Williams would have his own offense in mind, but as for this season the Gibbs Offense needs a John Riggins type performance whether its Portis Betts or maybe the newbie from the citadel who apparently did well in the scrimmage Nehimiah Broughton, Portis will get his yards but who will GRIND OUT THE INCHES it takes, can't wait to see. Ramsey threw a pick and didn't play excellent could it be said he feels the heat from Mark and even Jason C? Probably not but how long do we give the kid this year? Williams will probably start Jason Cambell.

Williams is a very well paid assistant. So I really don't think money will be a factor. However, if he is given an opportunity with a team that has a good deal of talent, watch out. San Fran is a team in transition or rebuilding. Not really a good fit right now. To answer your question i think he will take over if he is indeed still apart of us.
