Get Koren Robinson

The skins should go after Koren Robinson. The guy was a high first rounder a few years back that had 1 or 2 good seasons before bouts with alcohal and other drugs. The guy has been in rehab and I think the guy is desperate to get signed, so if the skins went after him I think he would realize this might be his last shot and straighten up.

I don't see it happening. He seems like a bad egg and isn't needed on our team at the present time IMO. I hope for his sake, though, that he straightens up.

I would like for us take a look at anyone who can help our team. Joe Gibbs delt with Dexter 20 years ago, he may of had his problems off the field but he sure was productive on the field.

I agree with mostly everyone in saying that I would pass on him. He hasn't really done a whole lot anyway and then throw in the fact that he is a bad seed. He had one "good year" and one "average year" the others were below average. No different than Rod Garder's numbers really except I would actually give the edge to Rod since he didn't cause any trouble. I'll pass on Robinson.

Take a look at the guy. It won't cost that much, and we could get lucky. We need to get lucky at WR and he has a nicer upside than Dyson in that he is younger and more talented. If he hasn't reformed completely, cut him. If he has and lives up to potential, a big big plus.

He is basically a speedier, less physical version of Rod Gardner (i.e. Inconsistent, drops balls,etc.) with character problems. If we traded old Roddy for a 6th round pick I guarantee you we won't bring a chemistry problem waiting to happen in Koren Robinson on board.

skins2thebowl isnt the only one who thinks he might be a good idea--the guy checked himself into alcohol rehab, and i know you're probably saying that's a small thing, but at least its a step in the right direction. he is immensely talented, and he's much better than rod gardner, he just dropped all those balls because he was liquored up...that having been said, i heard on SportsTalk 980 this morning that Robinson has said he wants to turn his life around and will be ready to play this season. why not bring him in a for a workout or something, see if he has anything to offer, and if he does sign him for insurance--after all his price tag won't be that high.

gardner made some huge catches, yes, but he just exudes the lack of confidence that is detrimental to a receiver's career. he can go out and have a stellar game one week, and account for most of the QB's yards (see: Dallas, week 2), but then the very next week (and in gardner's case, WEEKS) he sucks beyond all recognition. he has hands, but they disappear too often.

ok so that should have been in the gardner thread, but think of it this way. robinson was amazing in college, robinson had all the makings to be amazing in the pros. getting back to the point of him being sort of like manley, they both had their troubles, but gibbsy coached him back to amazing form. that having been said, this is a new era, but still--gibbs is more than a coach: he's a motivator and a leader...if anyone can get someone to realize their full potential, its him. but, this is all hypothetical, and i doubt it will happen...its a nice thought though

"Several people" could be/are retarded. They obviously don't watch Redskins games. Gardner better than anything on this team?? Trust me, you won't get anyone to admit that outright. If so, I would gladly crush them in a debate.

But I seriously don't think anyone here or anywhere else would make that incredibly stupid assertion.

I think that if the redskins got him we would end up calling him 25/75 or something like that because he is worse that Rod. Also anyone who lives near Seattle has alredy heard his I'm a changed man speech about 10 times before and he never does.

Finally realizing he has a problem with alcohol, former Seahawks wide receiver Koren Robinson has checked himself into a 30-day treatment center in South Carolina and plans to be ready for the NFL regular season as a new person.

"I've realized I've got a problem," Robinson said. "I know the path I was going down wouldn't enable me to be a successful person in life and a successful football player on the field. I had to be proactive before I got too bad."

Robinson's career and life have been spiraling out of control for the past eight months. Because of his drinking, he missed meetings late in the 2004 season and had to make a promise to seek alcohol treatment to stay on the active roster. That didn't work. Robinson finished the season on the active roster but was charged with a DUI on May 6 in Kirkland, Wa.

After pleading guilty, he ended up receiving a 365-day jail sentence in which 364 days were suspended. When he showed up for his one-day jail sentence, alcohol was allegedly detected on his breath by two detectives, a violation of his probation from the plea bargain.

That incident was the final straw. Robinson had been in denial about his problems. Last week, he checked himself in a rehab center.

"I will get out at the end of August," Robinson said. "I just know I had a problem. I was in denial for a while. Stuff had to happen to me for me to realize it before anything bad happened. I'm not ashamed of what I've done. I'm thankful it wasn't worse. But I have to put this problem in the past."

Robinson wouldn't discuss his pending legal issue. He has an Aug. 4 hearing to determine any penalty for violating his probation. Because he's at a South Carolina treatment center, he will have to postpone that hearing until late August or early September.

His plan is to sober up and be available for the 2005 season. From what Robinson has heard from the league office, he won't be subject to a year suspension even though he had a four-week suspension last year for violation of the substance policy.

"I won't be suspended, that's what I understand," Robinson said. "I will keep working out and keeping my fingers crossed someone will want to sign me. I can still play. My agent (Alvin Keels) has talked to the league and that's what they've said. There were some teams that we had been talking to and I hope they are still interested in my. First, I have to handle my business because I know I have a problem."

Robinson received treatment for his alcohol problems twice during the offseason, but until last week, Robinson hadn't entered into a 12-step program to stop his problems with alcohol.

Mike Holmgren, his former coach, made him seek help for his problems, but Robinson was in denial, which is why those other treatments failed.

"I only went into treatment then because I was pressured," Robinson said. "The first one was after the season. It was a 28-day program. It was like a detox program as opposed to a 12-step. The one I'm in now is a 30-day in-patient to get me to stay clean and sober. After the DUI, I had a five-day treatment for assessment and evaluation."

The recent incident at the Kirkland jail was his wake-up call.

"Everybody was seeing myself going down the hill, and it was like the hill just never stopped, it never flattened out," Robinson said. "This woke me up. I'm not really that type of person. The whole situation makes you see what you really have. I have a great opportunity being an NFL player. A lot of people would give an arm and a leg to be in my position. Those people go to work from eight until five just to be able to financially be able to afford a house.

"I get to play football and do something that I love to do. I've been taking it for granted. This has really humbled me. I can see that I'm not Superman and that I can't run through a wall if I want to."

Robinson almost signed with the 49ers after the Seahawks released him in early June. But the 49ers backed out of a possible deal because of timing. His availability came at a time in which the 49ers were under organizational criticism because of the public release of an inappropriate public relations tape.

"I hope teams are still interested in me," Robinson said. "I must show I can handle my business. I know I have a problem. This time, I checked myself in because I wanted to get help. Nobody was telling me to do this. I came to the realization that, 'Koren, you need help.' I've got to do what I had to do. I feel like I can be a living testimony by being able to stop this."

Robinson is a talented 26-year-old former first-round choice with the potential to be a No. 1 receiver on a team. But first, Koren Robinson had to take care of Koren Robinson.

The process started last week.

I'm sorry, but that just is not the case! We have a bunch of guys that these coaches can evaluate and we do not need to take any "chances" with guys who do not seem to want to make every effort to succeed.

I don't think so, unlike most of the rest Robinson has star potential, and with the workout of Darrien Harrell clearly the Skins aren't above looking for a diamond in the rough.

Koren is as bad as 50/50. He's a large reason why the Seahawks haven't went deep in the playoffs. Koren and Rod might be twins if dropping passes were a genetic characteristic.....

Koren or anyone else can blame him dropping passes on drinking problems if they want to, but the man was not drunk during games. He's ALWAYS dropped a lot of balls. He is definitely no #1 receiver, so get that outta your arguement. Darrell Jackson is head and shoulders above Koren Robinson and he also has dropping problems. The main problem the Hawks have had the last 4 years is that their receivers drop a lot of balls. It's been a very serious problem. You know the coaches are all over these guys for it and Koren STILL couldn't get right? Add his personal problems and he's almost useless.

On the new Redskins? The Joe GIbbs Redskins? NO WAY!!!!!!
