The fact that his value is so low should tell those guys something.

Im usually an advocate of a change of scenery being able to spark a player but I doubt it will in this case. The boy simply can't catch...he should have learned that 20 some years ago...

I think this is great. I'm glad someone bit and this is finally done. Thanks for calling me at work for the scoop, mom.

Rod usually acted like a pro when it came to the fans. He is a good guy. I wish him the best of luck and hope he does well in Carolina, except against us, of course.

I am defending Ramsey right now on page four, but please noone sign up over there just to troll.

Haha. Those Panthers fans made me laugh. Guess they don't know what they are getting themselves into.

I wanted Moss in that draft, too. Just ask my mom. She'll never forget. I was so mad that I didn't even help her with the groceries.

If the pick is a 6 I'd say the Panthers got a steal. I know Rod never lived up to first round expectations here but he's certainly a better prospect than anyone we could get in the 6th round. We're talking about a guy who is only 27 years old and has good size for a WR at 6'2 215. This is a great move for the Panthers and a move that had to be made for the Redskins.

Also I see no reason at all to laugh at Panthers fans who think they have a shot at the Super Bowl. They will get their punishing Davis-Foster backfield back this year, they have a solid WR group now with Smith, Colbert, and Rod, and a playoff proven QB in Delhomme. Their OL as a whole is not great but Gross is a stud. And on defense...I mean wow...they have Kris Jenkins AND Julius Peppers. That's just not fair. Throw in Mike Rucker, Dan Morgan, Brenston Buckner, Ricky Manning Jr. and a rookie stud in Thomas Davis, as well as several others and they have the best defense in the NFL in my opinion. And I didn't even mention that they have a no-nonsense, Super Bowl caliber coach in John Fox. They have the makings of a GREAT team this year. I'm glad they aren't on our schedule...

I agree with you that Gardner would more than likely be better than anyone we get in round 6, but you never know. The fact is, Gardner was NOT going to play for us again regardless of his skill(or lack there of). So to get something as opposed to just releasing him is good news.

Rod will blow up in Charlotte for a little while and then before you know it, he will put on his 50/50 cape and with this cape he will be flying to the clubs in no time..

Man, 6th round? Definitely not what I was hoping for but better than just cutting him and not getting anything.

Wooooo Hoooooo !!! Doing back flips here !! I actually thought we would never get rid of him unless we paid someone to take him. Even nicer that we play them on 8/13.

Oh....and by the way....don't try the back flip thing at work...they tend to look at you a little funny ! Especially when you end up on the floor !

I know a guy who sits in section 319 that will not be happy. Now he has to find someone else to heckle incessently.

No more, "Hey Rod!! Call your wife and tell her to pack your bags, brother!! This is your last game!!"

... and no more, 'He's got hands like a snake.'

ROTFALMAO

You people pining for a top three rounds draft pick can't fully grasp the whole situation... you sound like the national media pundits. Getting a 6th rounder for a guy we were going to cut anyway is a very acceptable deal... in fact, it's a bonus.

Bye Bye 50/50... thanks for DROPPING by D.C.

Darn...I was secretly hoping (salary cap implications aside) that it would have been an even swap for Stephen Davis.

A friend of mine who lives in Charlotte called me last night and said, that he was listening to local sports radio shows, and Panther fans are calling in and they are real happy with this deal. They feel like they have found a steel much like Steven Davis.

He also said some people calling in said that if Gardner makes the team it is a 6th round pick unless he starts 10 games and makes a defined number of catches it could become a 5th round pick.

Isn't he the one who won the rushing title that one year?

That would have been a great trade.

I am wishing Rod all the best with the Panthers. From what I saw the guy tried real hard to be a WR - just sorry he came up a bit short

Was it Hailskins or DEHog who said last year at camp, "I asked Rod Gardner for an autograph, but he kept dropping the pen."

Exactly - Rod was getting the boot no matter what so getting anything for him is a bonus. Plus, now we can sign our first rounders!

You know what makes me happiest about this trade? That we finally get to talk about something substantive...I got tired of threads on unrealistic trade scenario's and other fluff. I think I hit rock bottom when we started talking about Redskins keys....that was my low point. Every addict has their bottoming out point...and that was mine, I'm afraid. Thankfully, this trade has gotten my (burgundy) blood pumping again.

by the way...I greatly enjoy my new house key ;-)

I'm pretty darn happy. Essentially we got something for nothing. We were going to cut him anyway. So bonus! Everyone that looks at it as trading a 1st round pick for a 6th is sorely mistaken. Rod was a bust as a first rounder...the FO made a mistake in drafting him that high. He's played more like a decent 4th or 5th rounder. At least we received SOME compensation for him.

Regardless, I hope he does well with Carolina. He seemed like a nice guy that just struggled.

So the deal is a 6th rounder unless he plays in 10 games and makes a certain number of receptions this season? 50/50's value is dependent on his catches? Well, looks like that 5th round pick isn't going to happen.

This is great news!!! I'm glad he's finally gone and we actually got something for him. I honestly thought he was going to be cut this weekend then we would scramble to sign Campbell and Rodgers.

I still can't believe we actually got a 6th rounder for him. Those panther fans have got to be pissed off at their front office. They payed for a player that was going to be cut by Monday. I know I would be pretty pissed off if Danny boy did something like that.
