The NFL fined the Washington Redskins $45,000 Wednesday...

Post by Chris Luva Luva »

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The NFL fined the Washington Redskins $45,000 Wednesday for violating practice squad rules in 2004.

During a Nov. 12 practice, the Redskins used one more practice squad player than they were allowed, leading to the fine.
Two days before that practice, Washington had cut receiver Gari Scott from the practice squad. But two days later, without any other practice squad player being released, Scott practiced, giving the Redskins nine practice squad members on the field.

Redskins coach Joe Gibbs and assistant head coach for defense Gregg Williams said afterward they had found a loophole making this legal.

NFL rules stipulate that clubs must submit any roster moves by 4 p.m. The Redskins apparently believed they could use the extra player during practice as long as another player was cut by 4 p.m. But the league said there was no such loophole.

The Redskins had no comment on the ruling Wednesday.

I like this. I mean, I don't like how the NFL digs on us but I like how Gibbs is gettting real aggressive trying to get the most he can get.

do the right things

Notice that this kind of mistake or blunder doesn't occur with winning organizations.

Seems like New England and Philly are never getting caught with their pants down or looking like a deer in the headlights.

The Redskins have this kind of problem every singel year including rumors and accusations of violating league practice policies. We will be able to tell when the Skins are winning when we no longer have off season reports of the Skins doing stupid things and violating league rules or getting fined because somebody can't even read the rule book....or even call the league office to ask a simple question about a rule.

This is all part of the makeup of a losing frachnise. As I always say "if you do the wrong things you get the wrong results. If you do the right things, you get the right results. It sure would be nice if the Redskins organization and front office would begin to do the right things.

I care because its more negativity blasted towards our franchise? Its more reason for mud to be thrown on a proud franchise. Its something that was probally a mistake but still shouldn't have happened.

The link is clearly posted in the thread. I wasn't making it out to be the big of a deal, Im just posting Redskin news like everyone else. However, anything that reflects a negative light on my team does concern me.

I know its been a long preseaon but chill out.

Considering you quoted a nothing post and then contributed nothing to it .... I was going to delete it, that's to much like censorship. If you think about it you said a lot. Reading a post like that could leave you speachless.
But not me. a post like this needs coment, not just a repost.

This was a misunderstanding of the regulations (The size of the fine shows how mibor it was), but some would hop on it like "the Danny" was staching players
Considering Joe Gibbs is running the team and not "the Danny" I guess we can throw that every single year comment out (if not for spelling alone) or maybe the Cape Crudsader and his sidekick Robin (aka aswas71788) could give us a yearly review of these problems. Or may Joe was really caught trying to stash a player  you do what you have to do.
You are wishing that the Skins front office starts to do things right..... That's ok, your prayers have been answered.

IF YOU OPEN YOUR EYES YOU'LL SEE THINGS ARE CHANGING.

This response is not aimed at you Batman. I'm tired of this negativity. Really, if the Redskins had won last year and still violated rules, you probably wouldn't have a problem with it. But now that they aren't winning, there is a problem. Instead, the Eagles were so stupid (granted, they are a franchise of few mistakes, and I wish that Snyder structured the Skins the way Lurie did) that they signed TO to a contract. Who didn't see a TO-related problem coming? If you can raise your hand to that question, you are not a realist. Moreover, the Patriots are currently redefining their off-season strategy. They are renegotiating with Richard Seymour - something they haven't done in years! All of these actions are dismissable because New England and Philadelphia are winning teams. I only ask this: If the Skins were winning, would you have a problem with the infraction? If the answer is yes, then to each his own and I respect your opinion. But if you can say "no" or "probably not", then don't bring it up as another excuse why your team is losing.

Heck yes...he once drafted (future Super Bowl QB) Stan Humphries knowing full well he could stash him on the IR with a mysterious "blood ailment" that they apparently detected. I'm sure there are all kinds of stories like that.

... and no other team out there does this?

The Skins appearantly are under closer scrunity after the team posted videos of the OTA on the web - hense these things come to light.

This shows an insight into how Joe thinks ... always looking for an angle to help his team out. Gotta love that!

True it does a add some negativity to our franchise but it's something people will forget about when we start blasting teams in the playoffs :D

Absolutely wrong!

Eagles forfeit one week of offseason program

NFL.com wire reports

PHILADELPHIA (May 11, 2005) -- The Philadelphia Eagles will forfeit a portion of their offseason workout period after violating the NFL's collective bargaining agreement with the players' union.

NFL executive vice president Harold Henderson and NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw determined the Eagles violated rules for the scheduling of on-field activities during the offseason. The Eagles will lose one week of their offseason program beginning May 16. Players are not permitted to be at the team's training facility during that period, but will be paid for the sessions.

The club cannot reschedule the canceled week and the players will resume offseason workouts on May 23.

"We take a lot of pride in doing things the right way at the Philadelphia Eagles," coach Andy Reid said. "We didn't intentionally break any rules and we will get this matter resolved right away."

http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/PHI/8464450

This year the Eagles had to forfeit A THIRD of their OTA's because they messed up informing the NFL about the scheduling of these training activities. The Eagles do get caught with their pants down on occasion!

A recent post in this forum demostrated the fine line that separates winning and losing in the NFL. Every team tries to get away with little things to be on the W side of the line....
