During Patrick Ramsey's seven-game stint as the starting quarterback at the end of last season, the fourth-year quarterback injected life into a struggling offense as he continued to learn the intricacies of Joe Gibbs' offensive scheme.

"Towards the end of the season, I got more and more comfortable," Ramsey said. "Every play, I wasn't thinking as much. I was just playing the game and reacting and letting my instincts take over."

Ramsey was named the 2005 starter after a series of strong performances last December, including game against the New York Giants in which he completed 19-of-22 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns. The Redskins won that game 31-7.

Now, Ramsey is looking to take a giant step in her personal development and vault the team to contender status.

"My mindset right now is to just continue to improve," he said. "Obviously, you're going to learn something in every game you play. I want to be a part of the team's success and I want to be out there on the field when it happens."

For Ramsey, the development process continued throughout the offseason. Ramsey's 2004 offseason was stifled because of foot surgery. This year, Ramsey worked with Gibbs and new quarterbacks coach Bill Musgarve on refining his trade.

CAREER STATISTICS

2004 Redskins 9/7 272 169 1451 10 11 74.8
2003 Redskins 11/11 337 179 2166 14 9 75.8

Total 29/23 836 465 5156 33 28 74.4

Memorable Game:
In his first NFL action, Ramsey displayed all the potential that convinced the Redskins he was worthy of a first-round draft choice. Entering a Week 4 game at Tennessee after starter Danny Wuerffel went down with an injury, Ramsey was sensational in leading the Redskins to a 31-14 upset win over the Titans. Ramsey completed 20-of-34 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns (Gardner, 20 yards; Lockett, 23 yards). His quarterback rating was 103.6.

From the Files:
Ramsey established his work ethic while growing up in Ruston, La. He first began to follow the Redskins back in 1987 when Doug Williams, a native of Zachary, La., led Washington to a Super Bowl championship. During college, Ramsey's strong arm, quick release and throwing velocity were often compared to another Louisiana quarterback, Bert Jones, who graduated from LSU and played for the Baltimore Cots and Los Angeles Rams.
