You are not alone. I make Snyder (and his gangs) personally responsible for the piling mess -prior- to the arrival of Joe Gibbs. But I have to agree with you that there are encouraging signs of maturity and growth (some call them growing pains).

I am keeping an eye on him though.

Back on topic, I am so thrilled to see so many new faces on offense during training camp. I have high hopes that some of these guys may be diamonds in the rough. Back to the old way when we used to build our great teams with a mix of agents, draft and people from unexpected places  !

Damien Harrell

Post by Redjay »

I read that the Skins are going to try out WR Damien Harrell. This guy's was a 6'3" touchdown machine in the Arena league. The Skins should get rid of both Gardner and McCants and bring this guy on.

Signing Harrell could be even better than having gotten one of the premier WRs in the draft this year. Anybody agree???

Harrell should also be in great shape already. He just finished a championship season in the Arena league last month.

Why do people continue to doubt the AFL?

Sure, it's Arena League, for the most part it's guys who couldn't make it as an NFL player...

But the Arena League's style of play is set up as such that it is the perfect learning system!

The speed of the game is actually much faster, it really is a thinking man's game.

If a guy, like Harrell has an ounce of talent then the Arena League is likely to make the most of it.

I'm not saying we've found Kurt Warner's WR counterpart, but I think he has a good chance to start, especially as a Redskin. With his size if he's even got a smidge of talent, coming off the Arena League, we could see a new DC superstar.

This is something to get excited about IMO, low risk-high reward.

Welcome to the board!

We have already gotten rid of Gardner in my book. It is only the formality that needs to be completed.

McCants? I think he is our best receiver in the red zone.

I am also excited to have Harrell come for a try out. But the NFL is no Arena league. Joe will give them an opportunity to compete. My bet is that BOTH McCants and Harrell will stay as strange as that might sound.

I couldn't agree more with this analysis. I believe (and may be wrong) that the AFL field is substantially smaller than an NFL field. If Harrell can create the necessary seperation on a smaller field and put up 1,000+ yards each of the last couple of years, then he's definitely worth the time of a try-out. I think that AFL games generally score much higher than NFL - is this because the defense just isn't as good? Either way, its just a try out. I'm hoping Gibbs & co. have found a real gem here.

They score more because they have less distance.

But yeah.

They say quarterbacks who play in the Arena League actually get a boost in the AFL, they have to read and react much more quickly... if they have a NFL arm in addition to that, you have a heck of a football player.

So why not the same for a WR? He has to create seperation, make the catch more quickly, etc. etc. If he's got NFL speed then he's got the hands, seperation, and other skills already right?

I'd assume we wont have to worry about him getting alligator body because he should be used to confined spaces.

Arena league wide receiver Damien Harrell worked out with the Redskins this week, league sources said, but will not be offered a contract.

He tried out. Gibbs judged. Gibbs chose (along with the rest of the offensive coaches).

I am delighted we may be keeping McCants. But I am surprised that Harrell was not signed.

Yea, I don't remember Harrel as a Stand-out @ FSU. They have so much speed, strength and talent going through, must of been over shadowed. Would of been nice Height, Hands and Speed, Killer NFL combo.
Go 06' Skins, Wildcard birth & please avg. more than 15 ppg.

He must have been terrible because we signed 10000000 WR's for camp last year. We have deptht at the wazoo for camp, why stop now?

He had a try out and didn't make it, maybe the staff felt it would be a waste of his or The Skins time.
I don't get it though... He is destroying the AFL but I haven't run into 1(one) person here in FL that's heard of him.
J-ville is truly a Gator town and they know how to hate on FSU - So he must not have been that good before the AFL.

It does make you wonder why he wasn't offered a contract
