New Scenario
I think since Mr. Samuels played so awful and is unwilling to take a pay cut that we should cut him and sign Champ because Mr. Bailey is much more valuable to the team. Nothing against Chris but he is making way too much for a tackle that played like he did last year. Also Brandon Winey was really impressive with the Skins when Chris was injured.
What would be the cap ramifications of cutting Samuels if he doesnt take a pay cut???

Death to all things remotely BLUE and SILVER!!!!!!!!!!! Hail Skins
Brutal ramifications... he still has 3 years left and he has about 8 million left in signing bonus. ($2.66M per year x3)
his cap number is about $8.3 mil this year... so if you cut him after june 1st to sabve this year's portion of the SB (2.66), the Skins would save almost 6 milion dollars.
But they would create over $5 million in dead cap next year, and that'll kill you quicker than anything.
Really... they can't even afford to rework too much of it because we're just pushing more of it into guaranteed money. if Chris was to rework his contract and take a pay cut then maybe it would be worth it, but otherwise, the Skins have to wait at least another season before they think about cutting Samuels or the dead cap # alone is devastating.
Why do you think Samuels' agent is digging in his heels?
Personally... I'm willing to bet that Joe bugel not only returns Chris to old form, but turns him into the extraordinaire tackle that we expect.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

this is the ideal situation for us and Chris IMHO, we need to see what this season brings as far as he's concerned, not only would it kill us cap wise, but it would look like it would break Jake's heart as well, (I'm new on here but I see where Jake has a Picture of him and Samuels together)

I totally agree. Chris has the talent, and I hope he and Buges show us next year.
Dallas is Dead. And so is anyone else that disrespects the Man!
I just wish there was some way to keep Bailey. I like Samuels but I just dont feel like he has played anywhere close to the level that Champ has. Champ got beat but all corners get beat!! I dont care who the corner is, when the dline cant get to the qb the receivers will come free.
He plays the run exceptionally well and I dont believe he has missed a game since he was drafted. He doesnt run his mouth like Sapp and Arrington. I guess the only negative is his desire to be paid like Bill Gates. The kid is only twenty five and the only good that can come of his departure is that we wont be burdened by his huge contract!! I wish some of these superstar players would sacrifice their immediate financial gain for the good of the team. He should be paid well but turning down a 60 million $$ contract no questions asked is absurd.

No hard feelings here. He did play terrible in 2003 but I know he will rebound. Especially under the guidance of my main man, Joe Bugel.

Disclaimer: I, TCWest10, have never played on the offensive line of any team, unless you want to count the time I fell down on a handoff and tripped the DT coming at my QB.
KK, I think maybe the offensive line might've been the toughest place to be in Washington last season. Mostly new guys, all these audibles, different QB, different guys to make holes for. Some of the guys did okay. Others did not, showing that they needed consistency around them to get comfortable, like the hogs did. I don't mean to defame our beloved Hogs at all, but I kinda think that Coach Bugel has slightly more to work with here than he did before. If not, he certainly has people who can reach that level of comfort and ease if they have a guy behind center who isn't getting all tricky with his cadence and counts every single play. It's why Hasselbeck had an easier time. Not only was it easier for the QB to do his job, but it was easier for the OL to handle the defense the way he needed the defense to be handled. Samuels is still a work in progress, and I really, really feel that the framework in place now is going to make it easier for him to do his job. The funny stuff will come later, after the routine stuff is laid down.
C'mon, man. A little faith in the staff and in Samuels' absolute talent !
Additionally, it has been well-established here that Samuels' agent has a double standard working here. He' not gonna renegotiate anything that makes it easier for Washington until his "other clients" are provided for. This is the man who should be cut !

Tc,
You still must block, No one is cutting Champ any slack because he was beat on a few plays this past year cause of the dline! You also didnt see Jansen getting beat alot last season. I think Chris has talent, but it irritates me that he makes the money he does and he wont restructure. I just think Jansen is better and we got him for a bargain.

Trust me on this one Samuals will be back to the Pro-Bowl next year. Bugal will make him one of top 3 tackles in the NFL. His pass blocking will improve because the Redskins will run the ball and DE won't be able to tee off and go straight for the QB.

I know what you're saying but I have a question... Would you actually feel comfortable with Brandon Winey as a full-time starter?? I wouldn't and plus, Bugel will get C-Sam back on track.

Everyone can have an off year and most of the Skins did last year. Spurrier's pass on everydown didn't make it easy on the O-line. Ask any linemen and they will tell you they would rather run block than pass block. Let's hope we get back to some old-school smash-mouth running the ball and when we do Samuels will once again SHINE ON.

me too, furthermore, i'd also like to see that list of grades that gibbs did on samuels, and the rest of the team for that matter.I'd like to know what Buges said about Samuels in his report he wrote as a consultant during last season...

I know Ramsey got a B and they said that was about the highest, so My boy's grade probably won't be so good as far as last year goes.

I feel you on that one. I can not wait. I know the lineman we have are pretty new-aged but deep down, they are gritty and as harsh as the old Hogs were.

He will, BUT... if he doesn't, I will have to talk to him. I'm a few inches taller than I was in my avatar so it may be me having to give him a headlock.

I have a lot of conifidence that Buges will get the line in line. No pun intended.

Jake - you are my bud on here... but yes... Winey held up his end of the bargain for three games while Chris was on the bench recouperating from an injury.
That being said - I do think CSam is better than he played last year for sure. I think the Buge is gonna take a good line and make it great. I think Gibbs will run the ball and only pass some with PRam. I think the routes and the style of offense will be easier and quicker for PRam and that will make everyone's life easier - especially for the guy blocking for the QBs blindside

Winey did good, but as you said, it was only for three games. I don't think cutting Chris should be an option, though.
