I am a big Larry Hughes fan. That being said, we played just fine without him last season when he was injured (which he is quite often). The Wizards will be fine, as long as other people learn how to play defense.

Heck, bring Juan back and work on his technique working through screens, and I'll be just as happy.

LHughes was one of the strong points of the team! I hate when D.C. loses its key players. Smoot....and now Hughes...who's next?

Man, I was really hoping he would stay. Oh well. If he doesn't want to retain the continuity the Wiz built last year, then it's his loss.

He can take the money and try all he can to be a star in Cleveland but when it comes down to it, he will just be playing second fiddle to Lebron and the yet again rebuilding Cavs.

Yes because this means Zydrunas Illgauskas PROBABLY won't get re-signed. The Cavs will have enough to re-sign him but after this Hughes signing I don't think it'll happen. I'm hoping they cut off talks with big Z in hopes of signing a more athletic center such as Stromile Swift because with a backcourt of James and Hughes (I'm assuming he'll play point in Cleveland) theyll be a running team. If someone like Swift blows them off for a team like Atlanta then Cleveland is stuck w/o a Center which would really suck for them.

P.S. The Bulls are gonna have a Miami Heat type season next year... Book it

Sadly, I'm the number on fan of thee Memphis Grizzlies

I know, I know but I made a pact that the day Hakim Warrick, (my favorite player since a Freshman at Syracuse) got drafted, whatever team he wen't to would become my favorite team because I hate the Lakers and the Clippers aren't even considered a Professional Franchise.

As a matter of fact, I have a pretty random assortment of Fav. teams:

MLB- Angels
NFL- Skins
NBA- Grizzlies
NHL- Ducks
College- Well I just like to watch indvidual players since I don't have an Alma Mater.

I liked hughes a lot. That being said, i can understand where he's coming from with the money. it is a business.

i think we should bring bobby simmons back, a good hard worker who won most improved last year.

also juan should be resigned, jarvis hayes will be back.

we just need a strong 4 spot. o well we'll see, we have a lot of options.

playoffs here we come... again :)

We offered Hughes 12 mil a year...he got 14 -- he just isn't worth that much money. I don't believe he's even worth 12.

We have 11 mil tied up in one guard, you can't pay your backcourt that much and still need frontcourt players.

I'd like to see us:

1) sign Shareef Abdur-Rahim, PF from Portland. He'll get 17-20 pts a game (which is 2-5 less than Hughes);

2) resign Dixon & Blake;

3) Sign and trade Kwame Brown to the Knicks for either Jamal Crawford (most likely) or Michael Sweetney (a hometown favorite); and

4) sign Vladimir Radmanovic, 6'10" forward from Seattle. This big guy is NOT a PF but a super 3 pt shooter who has the ability to take over a game when he gets hot.

That would leave us with the following:

Starters:

Arenas - pg
Hayes - sg
Jamison - sf
Abdur-Rahim - pf
Haywood - c

Reserves:

Jefferies
Dixon
Blake
E Thomas
Vladimir Radmanovic
Peeler
Crawford or Sweetney

Thoughts?

of course. basketball rocks.

i want to see hayes in there somewhere. also peeler was pretty useless last year.

i also want to see us develop some players like ramos and blache, but any of those players added to arenas and jamison will make a strong group.

looks like we'll have another big 3.

you were good hughes, but we'll be just fine w/o ya.

ROTFALMAO

Some people never give up.....shoulda coulda woulda; didn't.

This could work pretty well, though. Remember how Arenas was taking games over when Hughes was injured? I liked Hughes a lot, but with a (still) strong backcourt and an inside presence, Arenas has the ability to have a Dwayne Wade type of year next year. My 2 cents

We just need someone to take over as defensive leader. We got plenty of guys who can make up the offense.

On a side note, sportstalk980 reported this morning that as many as 7 teams have made as seven teams have made offers regarding a sign and trade for the Kwaim.

That's probably the best news for us, and him. We should be able to get something good out of a trade; and you get this gut feeling that Kwam-e will burst onto the scene somewhere else; which kind of sucks, but I'm used to it.

i think kwame would get us a first round and possibly a pretty good 4 or 3 position because why keep waiting on kwame when we can have something proven. we've given him more than enough chances.

i hope our defense still manages to thrive. gilbert arenas will be able to dominate even more w/o hughes on teh court.

As long as we don't trade him for an over-the-hill player that will suck (Mitch Richmond, Rod Strickland) or never even play (Ike Austin).

Offensively, I agree. Defensively, we don't have anyone who can really take his place. Dixon plays above-average defense and has that knack for reading passing lanes, but we have to first re-sign him and then teach him to get through picks or find someone else who can help out until he gets around.

I think we might see GA at the 2 with Blake running the point this season, depending on what we can do in FA/kwaim trades.

I disagree. He was pretty useful when he did get playing time.

He was a good 3-point shooter and hit the game winner against the Lakers early on.

Plus, he was pretty fiery and brought energy to the team when it was needed.

And don't forget that Peeler was not brought in to be a starter. The guy has over 50 postseason games under his belt. The whole point of him coming to DC was actually to help mentor Arenas, and provide a veteran's experience and maturity.

I thought Peeler played well in the few games he played in, and I'm willing to bet he had many well-received words of advice when the Wiz made it to the playoffs.

This is hard to imagine now that Ernie Grunfeld is at the controls. The loss of Hughes, while a bit painful, only opens up the opportunity for a young guy on our roster to make a name for himself and allows us some room for signing FA talent for (hopefully) less. The "Big Three" are no more, but I'm excited to see next year's saud take form.
Back and better than ever!
