If you were the owner, and if it push came to shove, then what would you have the team do about its nickname? Fans of the Redskins only, please.

I just posted on the related topic. I love the name "Redskins" I wear it with pride. At the same time I have never been questioned/challenged about it by a Native American. I have friends who are American Indian descendants and they do not have a problem with it, but then to each his own. If as you say "push came to shove" I could live with the Warriors, but I would not want to lose the logo, it is not a caricature of an Indian stereotype, it is a very respectful symbol of honor & bravery in my opinion.

Nothing. "Redskin" may have at one time had a negative meening, but today it is associated only with the Washington Redskins. Heck in the 50's if you were 'gay', that was a good thing! Times change and meanings change.
But if we had to change, why not back to our orriginal name: the Braves. (Just to piss off MLB).

Snyder already owns the rights to the "Warriors" name, if the name changes, that's what it will be!

If I had Snyder's cash reserves, I would start a massive legal battle that I would carry on at all costs and hopefully try to kill the "activist" cause through bankrupting their budgets and will to fight the name.

I voted to keep the name, because I could never think of the 'skins' as anything else.
That said however, I am sensitive to the fact that the term "Redskin" is derrogatory to some, and will likely change at some point in the future (5 years - 30 years - ?).
If I HAD to agree on something different, I would first absolutely keep the logo. The "Washington Hogs" has a nice ring to it - it's original (I don't know any other sports team called the Hogs), but it kind of makes me laugh. It probably would make the haters laugh as well. And the logo doesn't really work with it.
Washington Warriors sounds ok, but I don't know how I would handle two sports teams in DC with the initials WW. I can't even stand one W.

All ways the Redskin's if we had to change the logo back to R or perhaps a tough looking redskin potato so be it, but we must be The Washington Redskins.
One other thing I'm part Cherokee Indian and have never been offended by the word. Maybe someone out there has been but then that's their problem.

I say keep it at all costs.![]()
But if we have to change it, let's choose a politically correct name. Say, the Washington Rainbowskins
OR for those of us from "up there" the Washington Rougeskins.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Washington Warriors?
If they change the name, thats it for me I'm DONE, FINITO, Hope it all goes well gibbs (Though I know Joe wont let it happen on his watch) But really if the Redskins betray thier fans that way then I'll pull for my 2nd fav team over in the afc the Titans who consequently betrayed Houston. Nevertheless this will never happen so its a boring thread

How can anyone have a "2nd favorite" team?
I will never understand that statement from a sports fan. It's not like golf, where you can have a few guys you like. This is football - a whole team - and if you can even root for another team (the opponent of an NFC East rival in the big game - only exception), you don't bleed burgundy and gold, IMO.
Personally, I have a hard time even watching other games sometimes, because it really doesn't matter to me what everone else is doing - I just want to see the Skins win. I will always root against our rivals, but I could care less which team it is.
Am I the only person that feels this way? Do other people have "2nd favorite" teams? I've never been able to program my mind to have a 2nd favorite.

Guys, feel free to start a thread in the Lounge, Smack, or Hogwash to discuss this issue of 2nd favorite teams further (make sure it's in Smack if it's going to go south). . .but for now please keep this thread on (its boring) topic.
To me, this is pretty much an extension of the other thread on the name , which cited an op-ed by a guy who was convinced Washington would have to change fairly soon.
I hope we never do, and, were I an owner, I would never even consider the possibility of dishonoring the team, city, and fans in that way.

Can't let the name OR the logo go. They actual redskins are offended because we were a losing team. Just wait...once we start winning them natives will be happy once again. Jeez...I wouldn't care if there was a team after my race/people.
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."
I know I'm in the minority here -- no pun intended -- but "Redskins" is a racially offensive term. I was watching "Gunsmoke" a couple of days ago and a character in the in the episode said that he wasn't "gonna take no orders from some dirty Redskin." It doesn't matter if the name "wasn't intended to offend." Charles Mann himself said it before Super Bowl XXVI when Native American groups were protesting, "If they say it's offensive, then it is."

I say the term "care bears" is offensive. Does that mean that it is?
Perhaps, if you're a care bear.
