They do, its called money. A lot of players play for the money. They just made this boxer look glourious while playing for the money.

You will not get even it if it is drilled on your head with a hammer, will you?

It is about pride as a professional in victory -and- defeat in and off the ring. It is about appreciation of the few good opportunities that life offers. It is about the sports watchers (not real fans or professional media) who are in the bandwagon when winning and jump off from it in defeat. It is about sacrifice, suffering, and the drama that separates victory from defeat in sports and life. It is about the triumph of the human spirit against insurmountable odds not only in sports but mainly in life. It is about character and how it reflects on all aspects of an athlete's life.

I do not expect you to understand or appreciate the richness of this movie. I gave up on you a long time ago. It is your loss, not mine.

I liked the movie fine, but must note that it was too rough on Max. The guy was not a bad guy, just a superb showman and good, but not great fighter (or monster). Unfortunately, the movie treats Max's bad boy PR image like the real Max. He was just a guy trying to make a buck in a bad time, like Braddock-- both gallant, gutsy men.

We are not talking about Terrell Owens here. Showmanship can, at times, get on the way of good character. I do not feel that Max is shown as a "monster". He is shown for what he was: a fearsome, arrogant, hard-working boxer.

Cinderella Man felt real. That looks like Hudson County, the New Jersey docks during the depression. The "Hooverville" was right, and the scene in the manager's apartment, without furniture, was just the right touch.

Coming from a long-time NY resident, the above is pretty reassuring. I loved how they capture the "ambiance" of the fights in the OLd Madison Square Garden. Current generations of Americans do not have a feel for the really tough times in America. Only if you live in a tough neighbourhood, you get a feel for the desperation prevalent in the entire country inthat era.

While every pro athlete plays or fights for "milk", it is easy to relate to his personal saga because everybody loves winner. A man that comes down is ignored by most (worthless) people. I am a great believer in second chances á la Doug Williams.

I found also very illuminating the fact that the media has apparently not changed much over many decades. You still get the impostors who claim to know and write the outcome before the fights. You get the liars, the devious, the snakes. Only a few media types are worth the ink (or pixels these days) they write with.

I loved the respect for the sport. Few athletes respect the sport, their teams, and even themselves anymore. I love people that let their performance (and not their loud mouth) speak for themselves. That is why I am an Art Monk fan.

My mom just got this movie and I finally just got finished watching it. VERY inspirational. I teared up a bit several times during the movie.

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I have not seen it yet. I was playing on a flight I had from DC to Salt Lake City, but I had a terrible view of the TV so I decided to wait to watch it.
