What was your "lurk time"?

Post by Deadskins »

I was just wondering what the average time was that people spent lurking around THN before actually becoming members. I, myself, spent about a year just reading posts before coming on board. I couldn't remember why I actually came in from the cold, so I looked back at my first post. It was about a potential trade for O-gun (then at Miami). How long did the rest of you lurk?

Probably about a month. Then the 2003 training camp came around and THN did such a great job I just had to join and tell them.

I probably lurked around for about two months. This was the 1st message board that I'd joined and I'm pretty happy I found out about it first.
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."

I actually lurked for a couple of weeks and joined with a different name. The name had an "&" in it and I couldn't get it to log back in for some reason. So I gave up and lurked a few more months before finally creating this name. And believe it or not people, I brought Jansenfan here. He did not find this place on his own. I showed it to him and I don't think he's left since then.

I found out about this place from F2FA and would scan around during 5th period. But I didn't really look at the message board at that time, I just viewed the Galleries and Fun Zone and all that stuff.

But then when I found out about the Message Boards, I joined right away... And thank God I did.

a month. followed the board from day one. there were only about 5-10 posts a day back then.... in all forums combined! i registered, and in about, ohhh, i'd say my second post ever, i broke every rule in the book. i was quickly dealt with by the boss. then a few months later i was asked to join the staff, and the rest is history.

When I first found out about the board I was gonna join to argue but I got to lazy and didn't. Maybe like a couple months later I joined. Between that time I only came on like twice so I'm not sure how much I actually lurked

Yeah, it took me all of 2 hours or so.

Of course, at the time I was very far away from home and starving for anything Skins. I saw some of the other boards out there but didn't want to wade through chaos to get to solid Skins discussion. After seeing THN I might have waited a day before registering, but even that's a stretch.

The question that I often wonder, and will probably never get answered, is how many lurkers we have who get their news / commentary fix here at THN but have never registered. For instance, I know that my dad reads the site pretty often (I'll hear him comment about a thread from time to time); and while I think that he may have even registered at one point he never signs on (and has never posted).

I didn't lurk at all. Boss told me he added the message board feature to THN and I joined immediately "to help start threads, etc."

I lurked for about 2 months I think. I believe I originally joined under the moniker "guinnesscrazy" (after one of my favorite beers of course - as well as one of my dogs' names). I think I posted about 20 posts, and then switched screen names - don't ask why...I can't remember.

Back in Jan. of '04 I was searching for draft news on the Redskins and stumbled across THN. I think I joined after just 1 or 2 visit's. All the information and various opinions hooked me early on.

Shortly after Gibbs came back from retirement, I needed a place to get a Skins fix and this was it. Did a google search for a warm cozy Skins fan asylum. And wahlah.

Made 1 post as a "Guest" about the team needing a D-Tackle. Then I got drunk and started punching keys about the Brunell trade.

I don't understand how some can "lurk" for a year and not give their 2 cents. Interesting.

I only lurked for about 30 minutes before I decided to join. This was my first Skins board I ever joined, and I'm glad I joined.

Like you, I did a google search, and found THN. I added it to my football folder in my favorites list. This was during the 2003 off-season, and there really wasn't that much content on the site at that point. At my job at that time, they were very anal about internet use, so I didn't come around too much. I work in IT, so when I get home, I really don't feel like sitting in front of a computer for any longer than I have to. A year and a half ago, I accepted a very lucrative severence package, and took a year off to be a stay at home dad, when my wife went back to work. I had a lot of free time on my hands, so I started surfing the net a lot more often. In my new job, my boss (a cheesehead) has the philosophy that if you are performing your job at a high level, who cares what you do with your down time? This is the way it should be, so all is good in my world. 8)

I was highly recruited by the same guys who drafted me #10 overall in this year's Unofficial THN Mock Draft. They saw the potential in me when it only took me 30 seconds to register and post on this incredible board. Seems like all my hard work has paid off.
Back and better than ever!
