A free kick is what you do after a safety.

My bad... you are correct...

What I SHOULD have asked is "How many of you know what a 'Fair Catch Kick' " is? It was a Fair Catch Kick that Allen attempted to use to get the score from 24-20 to 24-23.
It did not work. What is it?

Everyone move out of the way - Wysocki is here...I remember Eddie Brown - a slow, sure-handed punt returner, breaking 5 - 6 tackles (rumbling, bumbling, stumbling) one rainy, muddy Monday night on the way to scoring the winning TD on a punt return against the Cardinals...

Oh, then I take it back. It was a free kick. After a safety or a fair catch (which can also occur on a kickoff) a team is allowed a "free kick," which is to say that you can kick the ball in any form (I don't think you are allowed to use a tee, though). If you elect to kick it from the turf (as a field goal or a drop kick) and it goes through the uprights, that's 3 points.

Brass ring. The other important factor is that the defense must line up 10 yards off the ball, and MAY NOT impede the kick.

Did they not use a free kick to score points in the film 'The Green machine'?

They can impede the kick after it has traveled 10 yards. Like a punt, though, it is not a free ball, unless a defender has touched the ball first.

Yes, and they just did a remake with Chris Rock and Adam Sandler. The prisoners' team was named the Green Machine, though, so you were close.

Is that in the 2005 remake? In the original movie, the team was "Mean Machine", wasn't it? :hmm:

Anywho, if the bus has a built in DVD players, we can rewatch that football classic on the way to Detroit. That oughta settle the question.

I kicked a few folks off the bandwagon that needed a little buttkicking. If Boss is driving, I've been navigating since Day #1.

I may stand corrected, RS. I never saw the remake, and it has been so long since seeing the original, that I can't be sure. Green Machine sounded correct since it rhymed, but now I honestly can't decide. Mean Machine sounds better, though. Other football DVDs I'd suggest are:
Brian's Song
Rudy
North Dallas Forty (just 'cause it makes that Texas team seem like such a bunch of A-holes)

I'm in. I'm gonna take a nap for a few minutes, but I want someone to wake me up when Manfreda attempts to get on board.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

I'm on board, just strap me on top with the luggage and I'll hold the flag. Can I wear a Redskin hard helmet with beer cans strapped to the sides?

My Dad & I have had seasons tickets since RFK opened. I was in the Cotton Bowl in late 60's, after a typical back in forth game, watching Sonny, with his arm around the ref, waiting for the clock tick down, so Gogolak could come in and kick the winning field goal to beat the Cowpukes. I'm definitely on-board.
