I really hope that quote is true but you can never trust a random message board completely. Of course seans FREIND is going to say that all of this stuff is going seans way! Is he going to say that sean failed the lie detector test....prob not. either way the source is questionable.

Now that we can almost say Sean Taylor is free, keyword almosy, now we have even more to talk about, how will the league deal with him, how will the skins deal with him, I do remember Gibbs saying they haven't discussed any punishment for Taylor, and I dont see them taking action publicy because Taylor hasn't been convicted, so doesn't that mean he will be playing for us without a suspension, unless he is fined for missing offseason workouts

MIAMI, June 24 -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor was formally charged this morning with one felony count of aggravated assault with a firearm and one misdemeanor count of simple battery for his role in a June 1 confrontation in a Miami neighborhood.

The charges were announced by the Miami-Dade state attorney's office at Taylor's arraignment.


The decision by prosecutor Mike Grieco to file the charges at the Richard E. Gerstein Building brings Taylor's case to trial with a tentative date of September 12.

Taylor pleaded not guilty through a written document filed in advance by defense lawyer Edward Carhart.

Neither the 6-foot-2, 232-pound safety nor Carhart appeared at the arraignment. Carhart made arrangements to be informed of any charges by telephone so he could relay the information to Taylor.

The charges stem from an incident in which Taylor reportedly was seeking the return of two stolen all-terrain vehicles he said were stolen from him.

Taylor, a 22-year-old former University of Miami standout, faces a single count of aggravated assault with a firearm, said Michael Greico, assistant state attorney. Taylor was allegedly among a group of people who got into a June 1 armed confrontation over an ATV that Taylor and his associates believed had been stolen.





Another man in the group, 19-year-old Charles Caughman, also faces aggravated assault charges for allegedly threatening and chasing someone with a baseball bat.

After a brief hearing to announce the charges, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mary Barzee set a Sept. 12 trial date for Taylor. That would be the day after the Redskins open their season.

The former collegiate all-America and No. 5 overall pick by the Redskins in the 2004 NFL draft did not appear in court and has filed a written plea of not guilty.

Taylor's attorney, Edward Carhart, said his client had hoped to avoid the charges after meeting with prosecutors voluntarily to give his side of the case and to present polygraph test results the lawyer said clear Taylor of any wrongdoing. Polygraph results are usually not admissible in court.

"I'm disappointed," Carhart said. "The polygraph examiner said in his opinion that Sean was telling the truth when he said he never threatened anyone with a firearm or a baseball bat, and that there was no such weapon in his car."

Greico, however, said the investigation produced enough evidence and that prosecutors "have a good-faith basis to go forward" with the charges, which he said involve three victims. He would not comment on the substance of the case but said Taylor faces a maximum prison term of 16 years.

Taylor has had a string of off-the-field troubles since signing a seven-year, $18 million deal with the Redskins after the 2004 draft. The Redskins have excused Taylor from further offseason practices and meetings so he can "focus on his personal and legal issues," the team said in a recent statement.

Taylor was charged with drunken driving in October after attending a birthday party for receiver Rod Gardner. Those charges were dismissed, but Taylor was convicted for refusing to take a blood-alcohol test.

Taylor has also fired two agents, was fined for skipping one day of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium and was accused of spitting on a player during a game at Cincinnati.

He started 13 games last year and recorded 89 tackles, four interceptions, one sack and two forced fumbles.

We'll miss him, no question. But for how long we won't know for a while. But we will still be very good without him because we are not depending on a single player with this defensive scheme and we saw how well we did without Lavar who has a lot more NFL experience (and is more talented right now) and will most likely be there on 9/11.

What's a good-faith basis .... You have enough evidence to proceed, and/or You believe other statements over Sean's.
Who is the DA puting this faith in?

When did the 3rd victim pop up .... We know one guy was chased by a guy with a bat (that wasn't in the car) and the guy that Taylor hit, who's this new victim and how were they vitimized (what happen)?

Is Sean a victim also considering his 2 ATVs were stolen and his car was hit by gunfire?

OK let's say this actually goes to trail at some point (I doubt it will happen before Feb 2006). He is now being charged with single count of aggravated assault with a firearm. The witness says
1. Sean pointed a gun at them either from inside a vehicle or after exiting a vehicle....Then
2. He left for about 10 mins. only to....
3. Return and assault the witness while his buddy chase someone with a baseball bat.

My question is now this ... When he pointed the gun, what was his demeamor? Here me out here....

Sean Taylor is a world class athlete and he may have been offering to trade the gun (that he says he didn't have) for his ATVs (with his contract he no longer had a need for a pistol and the thug could halways use a extra burner).

If the DA was confident in the evidence wouldn't we see charges like.... simple assault, carrying a firearm, conspiring to commit a felony?

He admits he hit the guy.... that's assault
If he committed assault with a firearm, why not include the lesser offense?
He left the scene and came back before any physical took place ....

These lesser offenses seem easier to prove by the DA but weren't included in the charges. I wonder why

The impression I get from the article is that the prosecutor is effectively saying "look, you are facing 16 years in jail, why not plea-bargain and we'll only lock u up for 3 years" seems like the guy has already made up his mind about Sean, guess he aint a 'skins fan

One word: CONTINUANCE

Almost everyone is granted at least 1 continuance. It's standard. Sometimes there are multiple continuances.

This will likely be pushed to the off season, if not plea bargained to a misdimeanor/suspended sentence/probation/fine.

But, who knows. Sean Taylor could fire his lawyer (again) today, then rehire him next week, retire from football, and smoke blunts with Ricky Williams in a Miami ghetto.

As I've already said, the Redskins seem to be preparing for the upcoming season as if ST we not be there. I think this is the best approach, if there's one thing they've been able to count on with ST... it's that you can't count on him. If Joe Gibbs can't get to him at this time in his life no HC in the NFL can. I really hate to say this, I still think ST is going to be a great player in this league it just may take a few birthdays and a few teams.
