So everyone think we'll fail....

Post by Great Natale »

I am looking at all the magazines giving predicitions add this year I see predictions of a 5-11 season. Well at least this year we're flying under the radar. No ones is predicting a wild card birth.

Now guys...I consider myself a realest and not one of those "da bears" type fans who espect unrealistic events...but I believe we have a good team here. It seems that the major question mark lies at QB and WR, but I believe the the WR play will rely soley on the QB. And I think Ram will have a good season.

Our Season depends on ONE thing in my opinion, the line play. Line will affect everything. I dont think Ramsey is a question at all, we saw what he does when he has the right components around him.
If the line plays well, then portis will have a mvp season IMO. He is amazing, top 3 in the nfl at rb, and can break 1600 this year. If he plays well, then people will obviously put more guys in the box. Last year he played well and teams put guys in the box, but we couldn't pass. This year, it will open the pass, and our quick recievers will create seperation. So, if our O-Line plays well, then I think our whole offense will funtion well, and the defense will obviously play well regardless.

WRONGOOOOOOOOOOOO.....Once again....it is ALLLLLL on the QB position. Why? Especially early, teams are going to test Ramsey by Blitzing him into hades like they did last year in order to see if he has gotten any better at reading defenses and adjusting to blitzes. If he can hit an open receiver when they blitz, then the Redskins will be in great shape like in 1991 when Rypien was on fire and hit everything deep.
***Poster of the Year*** Hail to the Redskins. Everything else is inferior. Guess who's not a HOMER on this site.

... and the offensive line won't have anything to do with the Redskins' ability to handle the blitz will it?

Obviously when teams bring numbers, it'll take more than 5 guys to man the fort (there's an obvious Steve Spurrier joke in there that I'll let anyone fill in their own blank)... but the brunt of protecting Patrick will fall on the offensive line. Regardless of the extra men brought on the blitz, and regardless of how the non linemen protect Ramsey, the job that the 5 OL do dictates largely the quality of protection that Ramsey will receive over all.

And that's without taking into account that this is a RUNNING offense... built around the run... built around controlling the trenches... we all saw last year that inability to pass can lead to troubles running as well, but this is a run first, pass later offense. Obviously the offensive linemen have a huge bearing on the Redskins' ability to run the ball.

The Redskins didn't win the '91 Super Bowl because of Rypien's ability to hit a pass, they won it because they DOMINATED the line of scrimmage and dictated whatever they wanted to do offensively. Rypien was on fire because every time he hit an open receiver, he was gone for a touchdown. Why? Because the entire defense was cheating up and trying to do SOMETHING to stop Washington from ramming the ball down their throat... or down their 'gut' would probably be a better term.

This offense will never be about the ability to pass the ball, it will always be about it's ability to pass the ball well while they're running the ball really well.

I think that's a huge difference in mentality, approach, personnel, and attitude.

All of the great Redskin teams of old were predicated the play of the Hogs... not Art Monk, Gary clark, or Ricky Sanders, not Earnest Byner, or Timmy Smith, not even Joe Theismann, Doug Williams or Mark Rypien. Most of the success of the Redskins franchise lies at the foot of the five men that are standing in front of the quarterback... it will always be that way in this offense. I didn't include Riggo in the list of running backs because he was someone who made a difference regardless... but it's not like that success didn't stem completely from his Hog mentality and his belief that the 5 men in front of him had as muchto do with his success as he did.

So while you're looking off your soap box at the rest of us, maybe it's you that should ask yourself if you even understand the Joe Gibbs offense before you start chastizing people for having a wrong OPINION of what they think it takes for it to be successful.

My 2 cents
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

This is a reason why I believe we are going to do well this year, because our season doesnn't "hinge" on our qb or our coach, its about 99% guaranteed Gibbs will be ready, the man will put in the work and be ready, I see our offenseive line this year to be pretty well rounded, with two dominating tackles, a get-it-done guard, a young guard who has potential, and a good center.
If our O-Line plays as well as they look on paper, I can almost smell the playoffs this year.

I think the front 5 is the key but....I also dont think they will have a problem. The new center and of course jon back will solidify the line, our problem last year was the inability to pass downfield. I dont care if you have 5 pro bowlers there if they bring everybody they wont be able to stop them and we wont be able to run. We have to get a passing game going as well to stop them from bringing the house, then we can dictate to the defense instead of the defence dictating to us... just my opinion, hey guys rick is doing great and is going back to school next year. He wants to play football the following year. cya and thanks for all the football news this offseason and satisfying my football cravings.:)
