Maybe It's Just Me

Post by redskins56 »

I might be the only one that sees a problem with this, but I don't think it's right that Gibbs met Mark Brunell before Lavar Arrington, or two dozen other player on his roster.

Arrington was in Hawaii, and was quoted as saying, he still hadn't heard from Gibbs, and had not yet been notified that Gibbs had set up a time to meet him during his two or three week travels around the country. Arrington said he was excited about meeting his new coach, and that he was growing impatient, whatever that means.

Does anyone know if Gibbs has talked to L.A. NATION, his franchise player yet. Or is he going to wait until players report to lift...

That's a good point but I think Gibbs is probably working hard to take care of things that require immediate attention. I'm sure Gibbs wish he had the time to meet with all of them one-on-one right now but it seems there are matters that could slip out of their favor if they're not made first priority.

That said, I am in favor of always keeping Shaddy happy!! He IS the man!!!

Well redskin56 different coaches have different approaches, like Parcells meet with each player after he was hired individually and as a group before free agency or anything.

Coach Gibbs may want to talk to the whole team at once. Also Coach Gibbs had alot of catching up to the modern NFL to do. But in this era of Primadonna players he should sit down with each player and have a talk with them I think.

While Gibbs probably should get in touch with Arrington, I'm not entirely sure why that's important. Arrington has a fat new contract and Gibbs is trying to improve our team. The man Arrington should be eager to talk to is Gregg Williams...

I think we would all agree that there is nothing better than a heart-to-heart with Joe Gibbs (ask Buges), but LA NATION has not yet been afforded the alone time.

Gibbs said he wanted to get caught up with the league, and "meet every member of the organization that will make up the team." I trust that he will do that, and I hope he will meet the team's most recognizable player soon.

I know for a fact that Jeremiah Trotter, Patrick Ramsey, and Chad Morton were all at Redskins Park to greet him during his first day at work. But I'd like to see him continue to get acquainted with his players...

I think that LA needs to chill and realize it is Gibbs running the team, hiring the staff, evaluating the roster, talking to coaches, watching the films, flying to meet with potential FA due to time constraints, trying to design a playbook, work out draft priorities and in just over a month. There is a limited amount of time to fill FA holes and negotiate contracts with the likes of our UFA and RFA after evaluating whether we even want to keep them.

I don't care who the guy is - no 25-26 year old needs to be dictating his patience level to a Pro Bowl three time Superbowl coach. I certainly won't second guess him....

Let's not forget Hall of Fame! You are exactly right Rich - give me a break, most of the players are scattered all over the place since the end of the season so it is a matter of priotities. If I were a player on the team, I would seek out Joe.

One point my wife just made is that Gibbs has enough issues going on right now and LA is just not a trouble spot since signing the new contract. Isn't it enough that Samuels, Trotter, Bailey, the DLine, the RBs, the UFA, RFA, the playbook, the films, the two weeks it took to get the coaching staff he wanted due to league rules, etc. etc. etc. cut some of his time short? We only have til Mar 3rd to get most things straightened away before FA. The thing of last importance is to talk with players who are entrenched on the roster, have good contracts and are in Hawaii - notice he didn't say he had been to Ashburn and Gibbs wouldn't talk to him, but that Gibbs hadn't been to see HIM?

Last time I was in Ashburn I notice that the road into Redskins Park went both ways

I do want to point out that 56's original post did not say that Arrington was frustrated or upset in any way, he was asked if Gibbs had contacted and he said no. I don't think Arrington is crying about it. He's probably anxious to speak with Gibbs but I'm sure he realizes that Gibbs has quite a bit on his plate right now, as do all the coaches.

Gibbs is a very busy man right now. Since he has been hired, he has been flying all over the place trying to get everything together, such as developing a coaching staff and getting a head start for FA. Talking to LaVar right now is not an urgent matter. That will happen when it needs to happen.

Agreed. Joe has had a full plate and he was quoted as saying that he had tried to reach some of his players but, jokingly, "The CIA couldn't reach some of these guys." In any case, I feel these guys should be the ones to go to see him."Coach" is the one with the truely legitimate track record. He's the one that will lead them. And not just lead them, but lead them to victory. But, the one thing I hope is, the the "new age players" will respect and listen to him. But..... then again, with Gibbs, you either listen, understand and give it your 100%, or you won't start and probably won't be there next year.

Like others have said, he has more important things to take care of first. But, they could easily have met him at the hiring press conference or they could stop by the facilities to meet him. Articles have mentioned Ramsey talking to Gibbs several times and Gibbs noted that Ramsey is always around. Seems to me, if they really want to meet him, they should just stop by.
