I had all four wisdom teeth taken out by a US Navy "Oral Surgeon". The worst part was the twelve shots of novacain in the roof of my mouth, in between my cheek and jawbone and in the roof of my mouth.
The procedure was numb and only uncomfortable because I was wide awake and could hear my teeth cracking.
Then I got four days off of work and FRIEKING MOTRIN!!! I was eating Doritos the next day til I stabbed one in the newly created hole in my mouth.
All in all, not bad. Just don't let some US Navy officer do it on his second day out of dental school and you will be fine.
RIP 21

A Marine had to use novacain

Well guys, today is the day. Hopefully it won't be bad becaue I have finals tomorrow! Wish me luck!
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."
Good thing I didn't see your post before going to the dentist!
I just got back. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The whole thing probably took about 30-40 minutes. There was not really any unbearable pain involved. I thought the injection in the beginning was probably the only uncomfortable moment. After the injection, I could only feel some pressure and vibrations which wasn't bad at all.
I'm sitting hear typing this message with a swollen half nose, lip, and gum. It feels really weird...almost as if it's swelling. I've repeatedly checked in the mirror if half of my nose is big as a pear...but so far, I'm looking pretty normal. The Doc said the swelling will go down in 2-3 hours. He didn't really give me any pain killers...said to take Advil if I get soreness. So far, I'm not feeling anything...but I expect there will be SOME pain...right?
Anyway...there's my first experience with a root canal. Thanks all of you for your advice and past experiences!

I didn't really have pain afterward -- more of a deep throbbing for which I took something like tylenol extra strength. I remember sleeping no problem, and the next day was no big deal. Just go gentle re. food for the next day or so.
Best of luck on your exam tomorrow. What subject? Last one?
If men can run the world, why can't they stop wearing neckties? How intelligent is it to start the day by tying a little noose around your neck?
I guesss I went to a really good doctor because I had no pain at all. Didn't have to take Advil/Tylenol or anything. No pain whatsoever.
Calculus man....it's gonna
be hard as crap! I have like four more left.
