MNF moved to ESPN

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

So, NBC4 will be airing Sunday night football and ESPN will be airing Monday Night Football.

BTW, does anyone have a link to a website where I can download the Monday Night Football theme tune? What about the NFL theme tune? (You know....the little tune we all hear before a game starts...the one with the NFL logo and McNabb running around....I think)

hatsOFF, did you read any of the rest of this thread?

It isn't just NBC4, it is NBC corporate.

I have been watching Sunday and Monday night football on MUTE for a long time anyway.

Jim Rome?

Funny... I'd have sworn that NOTHING could make me hanker for the return of Dennis Miller, but I guess I was wrong.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Madden to join NBC on Sunday Night Football

NFL.com wire reports
NEW YORK (June 15, 2005) -- John Madden will join NBC as a game analyst when the network begins televising its newly acquired Sunday night football package in 2006.

The network scheduled an afternoon teleconference with Madden to make the announcement.

"John Madden is the best analyst in the history of the National Football League and, in my opinion, the best analyst of any kind in sports television history," said Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics. "John is much more than a football legend, he's an American icon."

Madden has spent the past three seasons teamed with Al Michaels on ABC's now-defunct Monday Night Football.

"I have been doing this a long time and when I went to ABC to do Monday Night Football, I thought I would finish my career there," Madden said. "But when the NFL did this new television deal, I looked at NBC's Sunday Night Football package, and I thought this really fits me well."

Before joining ABC, Madden teamed with Pat Summerall to call Fox's lead game from 1994-2001. They were the top NFL announcing team on CBS for 13 seasons before that.

Known for his folksy style and his love of football's grit and grime, Madden has won 14 Sports Emmys.

The former Oakland Raiders coach -- he led them to a win over Minnesota in the 1977 Super Bowl -- has become a pop-culture phenomenon thanks in large part to the popularity of his video game Madden NFL Football. Since its initial release in 1989, the game has sold more than 43 million copies and become the No. 1 selling sports video game of all time.

NBC is reportedly paying $600 million for a six-year contract that will allow the network to broadcast the NFL's Sunday night game starting with the 2006 season. The Sunday night game was previously shown on ESPN, which will now televise the Monday night game.

NBC also gets two first-round playoff games and the Super Bowl in 2009 and 2012 as part of the deal.

Perhaps we'll see the return of Pat Sumerall, after all. I can't imagine who NBC could pair up with the "icon".

I don't know. Costas seems like a lead guy in the booth, and I'm not sure he'd enjoy being Madden's sidekick. Of course, he'd be perfect to handle the play-by-play in between Madden's drunken rants.

pat doesn't know what state he's in anymore, forget about who's playing in a football game. he was great back in the day, but he should have hung 'em up long ago.

Sure he does, he's in Texas. Wherever he goes, Pat's in Texas.

Hey, I was just watching the new video on redskins.com and JTheisman says that ESPN is not going to be hosting the MNF this season, but the next season. I thought it was this upcoming season but it turns out it's not.

Just wanted to clarify it for yall...if you were confused like me too.

The NFL will be available shortly on pay per view only! This is part of the reason the NFL now has it's own network.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The only drawback to going with DirectTV for the Sunday Ticket is that the delay makes watching a game with the radio announcers impossible.

It's been mute on Sunday night for the cruddy ESPN crew for years and I guess the tradition continues. I"m just praying that Theesman, Patrick and the Troll don't get the MNF game.

And for those wondering about Summerall, he did a few Dallas games last year on radio and quite frankly he's done. The liver transplant really seems to have taken its toll and has really affected everything even his voice.
This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

I normally don't like equation posts, but ...

DirectTV + Sunday Ticket + Tivo + Sirius Radio = happy in the pants

Chris Berman is the worst sports analyst/whatever he does in the entire sports realm. I freaking hate him. He tries to be funny but he is just a worthless stooge.

I don't watch ESPN's pregame show solely because of his fat carcass.

I hope he gets canned soon. I am probably just dreaming but he is annoying and belittling even the U.S. Open coverage with his stupid snide remarks. I wish Andy North would punch him in the face.
